All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Wake Forest vs Syracuse Game Preview

Why Wake Forest Will Win

The Demon Deacon offense continues to do just about everything right.

It’s been balanced for most of the year, but when the Louisville game became a fight, the passing attack took things up a few notches and the team came up with a season-high 501 yards to get to 5-0.

The pass rush should roll through an improved-but-still-struggling Syracuse offensive front, that’s forcing a slew of takeaways, and all the puzzle pieces continue to be fitting together.

However …

Week 6 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Syracuse Will Win

Louisville was able to run on the Wake Forest defense and the Orange will try giving it a shot.

The move of former Mississippi State Bulldog Garrett Shrader to quarterback added more of a rushing element to the mix – he tore off 137 yards and three scores against Florida State and has seven rushing scores in the last three games – to go along with Sean Tucker and his 100-yard grinding rushing ability.

The pass rush wasn’t all that great against Florida State, but it’s been strong at times and should be able to get to QB Sam Hartman enough to be a bother.

All of a sudden, after getting ripped to shreds last year, Syracuse has the No. 1 defense in the ACC, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Here comes one of those games when Syracuse rises up and rocks at home.

It did it against Liberty a few weeks ago, and it pulled off a wild win over Wake Forest to end the 2019 season, and …

The big victories have been few and far between, but the combination of the strong pass rush and great running game will be the difference in a fun and wild up-and-down fight.

All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Louisville vs Wake Forest Game Preview

Why Louisville Will Win

The offense has picked it up.

It wasn’t bad in the opener against Ole Miss, but it was too late – the Cardinals got down too quickly. QB Malik Cunningham has started to play a  whole lot better – he’s been consistent – the running game was able to roll through UCF, and everything clicked to stay ahead of Florida State.

It starts with a line that’s improved in a big way over the course of the season. It’s been strong in pass protection, and it shows. Overall the offense is doing enough to keep up the pace, but …

Week 5 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Wake Forest Will Win

Wake Forest has been air tight.

Very, very quietly on a national scale, it’s doing everything right by dominating the turnover margin, loading up the defensive production allowing only 14 points per game, and there aren’t enough penalties to matter.

The D is disrupting everything, and the O has been tremendously balanced.

Florida State was desperate to come up with a good performance – that was over quickly in a 35-14 loss.

Virginia is bombing away on everyone with one of the nation’s most interesting passing games – it only came up with a few touchdowns in the 37-17 loss.

And now …

Week 5 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

There’s a shot this is a whole lot of fun if Cunningham is able to be sharp and the offensive line can keep the Demon Deacons from taking over.

Wake Forest will score whenever it gets a few chances, and Louisville won’t. Wake Forest will avoid the big turnovers and mistakes, and Louisville won’t.

Virginia vs Wake Forest Game Preview

Why Wake Forest Will Win

Shhhhhhh, the Demon Deacons are still unbeaten after taking down Florida State with ease.

They beat Old Dominion and Norfolk State to start the season – no big whoop. The performance against the Seminoles wasn’t a total shocker, but this was over after the first half with six takeaways and an offense that capitalized on almost everything.

Veteran QB Sam Hartman threw a pick against FSU, but other than that he’s been sharp. He might take a back seat this week, though, to a ground game that should rip through a a Virginia defense that’s giving up over 200 yards per game.

Week 4 College Football Expert Picks

Why Virginia Will Win

The Cavaliers are throwing really, really well.

While Wake Forest is rolling through the mediocre – to be kind – Virginia’s Brennan Armstrong threw for 554 yards and four scores in the wild 59-39 loss last week. That wasn’t anything new, though.

The Cavaliers hit Illinois for 423 passing yards in a 32-point win, and warmed up the nation’s second-best passing attack behind WKU with well over 300 yards against William & Mary.

The Demon Deacon secondary hasn’t been tested yet. That’s about to change in a very big way.

Week 4 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Like you’re doing anything better on Friday night. Get ready to enjoy a whole lot of points and a combined 700 yards through the air.

It might not be the Virginia-North Carolina shootout last week with over 1,200 yards, but it’ll be a whole lot of fun.

Wake Forest will blink first against a Virginia D that’s a whole lot better than it played against the Tar Heels. There’s no letting up, though – the Cavaliers will have to play for a full four quarters to keep up.

All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Florida State (0-2) vs Wake Forest (2-0) Game Preview

Why Florida State Will Win

Let’s just call the Jacksonville State meltdown a function of the short week after a painfully tough close loss to Notre Dame.

There’s no excuse – Jacksonville State got rocked by UAB the week before – but that wasn’t the same jacked up Seminole team that fought back against the Irish.

The running game is still there. It has the backs to hit the Wake Forest defensive front for at least 250 yards, there are enough good quarterback options to play around with the situation, and on the other side, the pass rush is there to bother the backfield.

However …

Week 3 College Football Expert Picks

Why Wake Forest Will Win

The Florida State secondary is a problem.

It’s not just the bizarre ending to last week’s loss to the Gamecocks. Notre Dame’s Jack Coan went off, Jacksonville State’s Zerrick Cooper had a few big pass plays before that, and this week it’s Sam Hartman who should have a little fun.

The Demon Deacon offense goes fast, hits big, and has no problem keeping defenses on their heels. The O line has been good so far, Hartman is a grizzled veteran who’s seen it all in the ACC, and Florida State is reeling.

Just a few big plays will force the Noles to press.

Week 3 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Don’t write off Florida State quite yet.

It showed against Notre Dame that it can run, McKenzie Milton is a terrific quarterback who’s still shaking off the rust, and the defense has speed and enough talent to be better.

This isn’t fair or right, but Florida State could just as easily be 2-0 right now as it is 0-2.

Even so, the Wake Forest offense will be too sharp, too efficient, and too good early on. Florida State will mount a comeback with a slew of big runs on the ground, but the back-and-forth fight will end with Hartman coming through after the Seminole attack stalls.

All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Wake Forest (1-0) vs Norfolk State (0-1) Game Preview

Why Norfolk State Will Win

Will Wake Forest be already planning ahead for Florida State?

It rocked Old Dominion in a 42-10 yawner, and the ACC season kicks off next, so maybe in a dream world Norfolk State can catch a break by getting off to a quick start with its decent rushing offense.

The Demon Deacons got run on a bit by ODU, there were problems on fourth downs, and ….

Week 2 College Football Expert Picks

Why Wake Forest Will Win

The Wake Forest offense will get out fast and put this away early.

It hung 28 on the board in the first half last week, Toledo got up 28-0 on Norfolk State, and there won’t be any letdowns or focus issues – the team still has work to do.

The Spartan secondary will allow a whole lot of big plays. Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman will spread the ball around early on, and the running game that didn’t do enough to crank out yards in chunks last week will get the offensive line in a groove right away and through the second half.

Week 1 NFL Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

It’s up to Wake Forest what it wants the score to be.

All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Wake Forest (0-0) vs Old Dominion (0-0) Game Preview

Why Old Dominion Will Win

The Monarchs have had plenty of time to get ready.

This still might be an inexperienced team, but head coach Ricky Rahne – who didn’t get a chance to show what he could do in 2020 with the program taking the year off – was able to get plenty of practice time in to try figuring out all the parts of the puzzle.

This shouldn’t be anything like the team that struggled to do anything right in 2019. There’s an interesting mix of Power Five players from the transfer portal and decent young recruits built up over the last two seasons.

It might be a little ragged, but as long as the lines can hold up, the rest of the parts should be talented enough – and athletic enough – to not get ripped apart. However …

Week 1 College Football Expert Picks

Why Wake Forest Will Win

Old Dominion could use a few tune-up games before this.

The Monarch offense should be okay. Rahne is a great offensive coach and should be able to throw in a few curveballs. On the other side, the defense is truly starting over across the board.

Wake Forest is the opposite. It gets close to everyone back who did anything in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, the passing game should be devastating, and as long as the offensive line is okay in pass protection, the explosion should be there out of the gate.

CFN Preseason Rankings, Schedules, Projected Records For All 130 Teams

What’s Going To Happen

Wake Forest will strike early and shouldn’t have too many problems from there.

Lost in the bowl collapse against Wisconsin was how good the Demon Deacons were all year at not turning the ball over. They’re not going to make the big mistakes Old Dominion needs to make any sort of a comeback.
