Wisconsin volleyball sweeps Arkansas to take both matchups on the road

Wisconsin volleyball sweeps Arkansas to take both matchups on the road

A night after a five-set thriller, Wisconsin volleyball made quick work of Arkansas in the second of a pair of games against the Razorbacks.

The No. 1 Badgers improved to 4-0 on the year while taking down the Hogs 25-22, 25-16, 25-17 for a three-set sweep. A trio of Badgers had double-digit kills as Sarah Franklin led the way with 12, Devyn Robinson had 11, and Anna Smrek finished up with 10.

The Badgers are heading home with a sweep, and will return to the UW Fieldhouse to take on No. 24 Tennessee on September 3.

The Badgers were able to move into No. 1 after Texas was upset by Long Beach State, and have been perfect since.

What are the most attended female sporting events

A new record resides in Lincoln, Nebraska!

No other sporting event in the history of women’s sports has reached the attendance that Nebraska volleyball set, with just over 92,000 fans packed into Memorial Stadium.

In a space dominated by women’s soccer, the Nebraska volleyball defeated Nebraska-Omaha in straight sets on the path to the record. Eight of the nine current records in volleyball attendance involve the women’s volleyball squad. So, it would only be right for the Cornhuskers to play a role in a ground-breaking female accomplishment.

Below are the most attended female sporting events in the world before Wednesday’s record-setting game. As expected, given the magnitude of the game of soccer, world football takes all ten spots. However, this may not be for long. A new number one resides in Lincoln, Nebraska.

What John Cook and players said following Volleyball Day in Nebraska

Nebraska head volleyball coach John Cook met with the media following his team’s straight-sets victory in front of a record-setting crowd at Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska head volleyball coach John Cook met with the media following his team’s straight-sets victory in front of a record-setting crowd at Memorial Stadium.

Here’s what he and several of his players had to say to the media after the celebration.

On the emotions and power of today:

“I’ve probably cried five times today and I’m not kidding. Several times I’ve had to bite my lip to hold it together. It’s been a very emotional day. I lost it when I saw the alumni. I lost it when I hugged Briana Holman. I haven’t seen her since she left here. She’s been playing in Israel. It means so much to me. I lost it during the pep rally when Kennedi Orr wrote me a note. I was too emotional to read the whole thing so I read the last line and it said ‘Coach, today we are going to make the impossible possible.’ After this beautiful note she wrote to all her teammates.”

The sights from Volleyball Day in Nebraska

Volleyball Day in Nebraska set a world record on Wednesday evening.

Volleyball Day in Nebraska set a world record on Wednesday evening. Nebraska’s game against Nebraska-Omaha occurred in front of a crowd of 92,003 at Memorial Stadium.

The attendance broke the record for the largest crowd to watch a women’s sporting event. The previous record had been 91,648 fans in the UEFA Champions League between Barcelona and Wolfsburg.

The Huskers have sold out 306 consecutive regular season matches, but according to the University, the match in Memorial Stadium does not count toward that streak. The Huskers have led the nation in attendance every season since 2013.

Nebraska would defeat Omaha in straight sets to improve to 4-0 on the season. Find the sights from Volleyball Day in Nebraska below.

Volleyball Day in Nebraska ends with a new world record for the Huskers

It was perhaps one of the biggest days in volleyball history, Volleyball Day in Nebraska.

It was perhaps one of the biggest days in volleyball history, Volleyball Day in Nebraska. After Wayne State and Nebraska-Kearney played earlier in the day, the Nebraska volleyball team faced off against Omaha in front of a record crowd at Memorial Stadium.

Not only did the Huskers walk away with a win, but they also walked away with the Women’s Sporting Event World Record. Memorial Stadium saw a grand total of 92,003 in attendance to watch Nebraska face down the Mavericks.

This surpassed the previous world record of 91,648, which came in a UEFA Champions League match between Barcelona and Wolfsburg on April 22, 2022, at Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain. The previous record for an American women’s sporting event was 90,185 in the USA’s FIFA World Cup Final against China on July 10, 1999, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

The Huskers also shattered a pair of NCAA records with this match – the previous records for any NCAA volleyball match and an NCAA volleyball regular-season match.

Entering Wednesday night, the largest-ever crowd for any NCAA volleyball match was 18,755 when Nebraska played Wisconsin in the NCAA Final in Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 18, 2021. The largest NCAA volleyball regular-season attendance was 16,833 when Wisconsin hosted Florida in Madison, Wisconsin., on Sept 16, 2022.

The Huskers are now 4-0 on the season and will hit the road for their first road match of the season against Kansas State. The match is set for Sunday at 4 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN+.

Tonight in Lincoln, Nebraska was one of the great scenes in collegiate athletic history. Fans of every Big Ten school can appreciate just how breathtaking it was to see 92,003 fans descend upon Memorial Stadium for a Nebraska volleyball game.

That number is officially the most people ever at a women’s sporting event. Yes, any women’s sporting event ever.

Nebraska head coach John Cook, who has been at the helm for 23 years and four national championships in Lincoln, took the mic to thank the crowd on a magical night for collegiate athletics.

Wisconsin volleyball is the new No. 1 team in the nation

Wisconsin volleyball is the new No. 1 this week

The latest AVCA poll is out and after just one week of the season, Wisconsin volleyball has moved up to No. 1 in the nation.

The Badgers started the year out 2-0, defeating Baylor and TCU. It was Long Beach State’s upset of former No. 1 Texas that allowed the Badgers, who started the year at No. 2 in the polls, to move up to the top spot.

On September 3, Wisconsin will begin their home season against Tennessee and unveil the 2022 Big Ten championship banner at the UW Fieldhouse. The Badgers have a pair of games against Arkansas before returning home for their first game in front of the Wisconsin faithful.
