Watch: Titans’ Will Levis throws 1st TD on bomb to DeAndre Hopkins

Titans QB Will Levis connected on his first career touchdown pass on a bomb to WR DeAndre Hopkins.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis wasted no time securing his first career touchdown pass in the Week 8 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

During the first quarter with the Titans trailing 3-0, Levis dialed up a deep ball to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who reeled it in for a 47-yard touchdown reception.

Not only was it Levis’ first career touchdown pass, it was also Hopkins’ first score as a member of the Titans, and it was his first touchdown since Week 12 of last season with the Arizona Cardinals.

Levis has been solid early on, completing six of his first seven passes for 67 yards and a score.

Hopefully his early showing will deter the Titans from making the mistake of alternating quarterbacks, something they did on the first series of the game that ended with a botched snap and lost fumble.

With the score, the Titans own a 7-3 lead over the Falcons with a little over two minutes left in the first quarter.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh gives locker room speech after win

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh gave the locker room a bone chilling post-game speech after their week 7 win over the Lions.

Ignited by a convincing 38-6 victory over the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh gave the locker room a bone chilling post-game speech. “It’s only the start,” Harbaugh claimed as the Ravens improved to 5-2 on the regular season (Watch Below).

Head Coach John Harbaugh has continued his success in the NFL with a 150-96 regular season winning record. His experiences include 20 total coached playoff games and the infamous Super Bowl XLVII victory over the 49ers in 2013.

In a very competitive AFC, the Ravens would be wise to turn their two-game winning streak to three by beating the Cardinals in week 8. Harbaugh seems fairly optimistic about the potential of his team.

It’s time for Week 7 of the NFL season, and as always, Greg Cosell of NFL Films and ESPN’s NFL Matchup, and Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire and the USA Today Sports Media Group get you ready with tons of tape study and advanced metrics.

This week, Greg and Doug get into these games:

  • Miami Dolphins at Philadelphia Eagles — How can the Eagles’ defense stop Miami’s motion-heavy, track team offense?
  • Cleveland Browns at Indianapolis Colts — What did the win over the 49ers tell us about the Browns’ defense… both good and bad?
  • Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens — The Lions and Ravens are each dialing it up on both sides of the ball, leading to perhaps the best schematic matchup of the week.
  • Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs — How the Chiefs are playing defense at a very high level under Steve Spagnuolo.
  • San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings — Brock Purdy has been amazing against the blitz this season, but will he be able to handle Brian Flores’ multi-level pressure concepts?

Greg and Doug also get into the Jets’ amazing defense.

Ravens’ Kyle Hamilton ejected for vicious hit on Titans’ Chris Moore

Ravens S Kyle Hamilton has been ejected from the Week 6 game after a helmet-to-helmet hit on Titans WR Chris Moore.

Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton has been ejected from the Week 6 game against the Tennessee Titans for a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit on wide receiver Chris Moore.

The play happened in the third quarter with the Titans trailing 18-6. Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw a pass high to Moore that he had to go up for and initially came down with.

But Hamilton came flying in leading with his helmet and laid an ugly hit right to the head of Moore, who was clearly shaken up after the play.

After a conference, Hamilton was ejected. Meanwhile, Moore left to the locker room under his own power after being checked out on the sideline.

The Titans would go on to score one play later thanks to a 15-yard run by running back Derrick Henry to cut the deficit to 18-13.

The Titans already lost tight end Josh Whyle to a head injury in the first quarter. It would be surprising to see Moore come back in after the scary hit. Hopefully he’s OK.

The Xs and Os with Greg Cosell: Previewing Week 5’s biggest NFL matchups

This week, Greg Cosell and Doug Farrar get into Rams-Eagles, Bills-Jaguars, Cowboys-49ers, and a host of other games in “The Xs and Os.”

It’s time for Week 5 of the NFL season, and as always, Greg Cosell of NFL Films and ESPN’s NFL Matchup, and Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire and the USA Today Sports Media Group get you ready with tons of tape study and advanced metrics.

This week, Greg and Doug get into:

  • When you’re a month in to the season, how much can you base your scouting on trends and repeatable patterns?
  • How Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams control the middle of the field, especially with Puka Nacua;
  • Why the Philadelphia Eagles could be challenged by Matthew Stafford, Nacua, and that Rams passing game;
  • Why the Buffalo Bills were able to stop the Miami Dolphins’ high-flying offense, and what that means for the Jacksonville Jaguars;
  • What the Dallas Cowboys’ red zone issues are, and why it’s a bad deal against a highly disciplined San Francisco 49ers defense;
  • And why Zach Wilson of the New York Jets looked like a completely different quarterback against the Kansas City Chiefs.

John Harbaugh gets 150th career win as Ravens head coach

John Harbaugh celebrated his 150th career win in the locker room and by issued game balls to key players in week 4.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was exuberant in the locker after Sunday’s victory over Cleveland. The win numbers as Harbaugh’s 150th win as head coach, a prestige reason to celebrate.

A players coach indeed, Harbaugh issued seven total game balls and kept a game-ball of his own for his career accomplishment. With optimism thriving in Baltimore, it’ll be interesting to see how they perform in week 5.

Social media loved Derrick Henry’s STRONG TD run vs. Bengals

Social media loved seeing some vintage Derrick Henry in Week 4 against the Bengals.

It has been awhile since we’ve seen Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry break a long touchdown run with how the offensive line has played this season, but he finally got loose in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Granted, it wasn’t one of Henry’s monster touchdown runs that we’ve seen in the past, but it was about as tough a run as we’ve seen from him this season.

With the Titans up 10-3 in the second quarter, Henry had his number called on first down and turned what first looked like it would be a short run to a 29-yard touchdown by breaking three tackles before eventually finding the open field for the score.

The 29-yard scamper was Henry’s longest run of the season, and it was his first touchdown since Week 2. With the score, the Titans took a 17-3 lead over Cincinnati in what was an impressive first half for Tennessee’s offense.

Here’s how social media reacted.

Texans rookie WR Tank Dell is breaking the mold for smaller receivers

Houston Texans rookie receiver Nathaniel “Tank” Dell is breaking the mold for smaller receivers. Greg Cosell and Doug Farrar discuss in this week’s “Xs and Os.”

The list of receivers in the general area of 5-foot-8 and 165 pounds leans toward gadget guys as opposed to legitimate outside targets. When you’re that small, you’re generally not expected to deal with bigger, more physically dominant cornerbacks; you’re generally best off exploiting open space from the slot or the backfield.

The Houston Texans have had a different plan with rookie receiver Nathanial “Tank” Dell. The Houston alum has caught 15 passes on 23 targets for 251 yards and two touchdowns, and where he’s catching those passes is pretty interesting. Through his first three NFL games, Dell has lined up in the slot on just 27 snaps, and 74 outside. And all three of his explosive plays have come out of an outside alignment.

“I would say the biggest growth, really has just been the minutia of route-running,” Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik said this week of Dell’s development. “When I say that, Tank has always been a really good route runner and a really good separator. But how he uses his speed and how that impacts his routes – and not just deep routes, but intermediate routes, short routes, how he gets in and out of cuts – not just with freak athleticism, but now with intentionality and tying it to other routes that we run that maybe he’s not coming out of a break point. So, being able to make things look similar to other routes we run has started to really resonate with him. I think it shows up on tape and he’s really doing a great job in that area.”

Dell’s vertical ability showed up twice against the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday — there was this 46-yard near-touchdown in the first quarter where he just ran through the Jaguars’ Cover-2…

…and this 68-yard actual touchdown in the fourth quarter in which Dell did the same to Jacksonville’s Cover-1.

In this week’s “Xs and Os with Greg Cosell,” we discussed the challenges Dell will present to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense this Sunday, in conjunction with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud.

How can the Bills stop the Dolphins’ ridiculous offense?

The Miami Dolphins’ offense is an unstoppable juggernaut that the Buffalo Bills must try to stop. Greg Cosell and Doug Farrar detail how the Bills can pull it off.

The Buffalo Bills are coming off a 37-3 waxing of the Washington Commanders in which they became the first NFL team since the 1985 Dallas Cowboys to put up nine sacks and four interceptions in a single game.

But by Monday morning, head coach Sean McDermott had thrown those good feelings right out the window, and for good reason. Buffalo must now deal with a Miami Dolphins offense that set all kinds of records in its preposterous 70-20 thrashing of the Denver Broncos.

So, as well as McDermott’s defense is playing, there’s no time for pats on the back.

“It gets shorter and shorter or smaller and smaller, that window, right? And in particular, when you got a team that put up 70 points, I don’t think I’ve seen that in my NFL career the entire time,” McDermott said Monday morning. “So they’re very explosive,”

In this week’s “Xs and Os with Greg Cosell and Doug Farrar,” the guys talked at length about the challenges presented by Miami’s offense, and how the Bills can best deal with them.
