Georgios Korakidis wins bronze in hammer throw.

Tennessee senior track and field athlete Georgios Korakidis captured the school’s first medal at the Southeastern Conference outdoor championships Thursday in Oxford, Mississippi.

Korakidis, a senior for the Volunteers, won a bronze medal in the men’s hammer throw at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex.

His best throw of the day was an effort of 69.64 meters (228 feet, 5 inches). Three throws surpassed 64 meters.

His teammate with the Vols, Karl Thiessen, posted a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run as he crossed the finish line in 29 minutes, 32.36 seconds.

For the Lady Vols, Sydney Seymour came in fourth in the women’s 10,000-meter run. She finished the race in 34:39.37. The mark represents the best time of her career and ranks fifth in UT history.

Two Tennessee school records are set at Crimson Tide Invitational.

Two University of Tennessee track and field athletes broke their own records Saturday at the Crimson Tide Invitational.

Senior Jordan West and Lady Vols’ graduate student Hannah Jefcoat set their own school marks on the second day of the meet.

West set a school record in shot put. On his sixth and final attempt, he landed 20.33 meters (66 feet, 8.5 inches).

His previous two record-setting efforts Saturday were 19.88 meters (65-2.75) and 19.96 meters (65-6).

West set his previous mark last season at the Tennessee Relays (19.85 meters (65-1.5).

Jefcoat finished second overall in the women’s pole vault competition with a mark of 4.22 meters (13-10).

Jefcoat was the top collegiate finisher in the event and set her previous school record at the 2021 Outdoor SEC Championships. The previous record was 4.19 meters (13-9).

A pair of Tennessee men’s track and field athletes set records at the Crimson Tide Invitational Friday.

Georgios Korakidis and Canaan Anderson both set program records in their respective events at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Korakidis surpassed is own UT record in the hammer throw Friday, posting an effort of 70.51 meters (231 feet, 4 inches).

He previous mark of 69.45 meters (227-10) was set at the 2021 outdoor national championships.

Korakidis finished fifth overall and the second best college student-athlete.

Anderson set a 35-year old freshman record in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 3 minutes, 42.46 seconds. The previous record was set by Sam James in 1977.

Anderson has the fourth fastest time in UT program history.

Tim Thacker and Thomas Gardiner also posted personal-best times in the 1,500. Thacker finished in 3:43.79 while Gardiner crossed the finish line in 3:50.76.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Eli Nahom finished second (9:01.36) and Matthew McMillan came in fifth (9:11.52).

For the Lady Vols, Chandler Hayden recorded her first career victory in the hammer throw with a mark of  62.41 meters (204-9).

In the 1,500-meter run, Olivia Janke and Jett Davidson posted personal-best times. Janke finished the race in 4:21.33 and Davidson crossed the line in 4:49.47.

Wayne Pinnock named SEC Freshman of the Week

Tennessee long jumper named SEC Freshman of the Week after performance at Auburn.

Tennessee track and field athlete Wayne Pinnock has been named SEC Frehman of the week following his performance at the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn.

Pinnock, who made his 2022 outdoor debut at the meet and saw his first action since winning the men’s indoor long jump national championship in March, posted a mark of 8.06 meters (26 feet, 5.5 inches) to win the long jump competition.

Pinnock, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, now leads the SEC and is tied for the best wind-legal jump in the nation.

His effort at Auburn set a Volunteers’ freshman record in the outdoor long jump, breaking Greg Neal’s 40-year old record.

Neal leapt 7.89 meters (25-10.75) in 1982.

Sara Borton sets freshman pole vault record

Sara Borton sets freshman pole vault record at the War Eagle Invitational.

Lady Vols’ freshman Sara Borton set a Tennessee track and field record in the pole vault Saturday at the War Eagle Invitational at Hutsell-Rosen Track in Auburn.

Borton, a native of Lewis Center, Ohio, posted a mark of  4.17 meters (13 feet, 8.25 inches) to set a freshman outdoor program record.

Borton cleared the height on her second attempt to win the event. The previous mark was set by Kristen Denk in 2016, vaulting 4.15 meters (13-7.25).

Borton and Denk also share Tennessee’s program’s indoor record.

In the women’s triple jump, Charisma Taylor won with an effort of 13.29 meters (47-25).

Joella Lioyd won the women’s 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.40 seconds.

On the men’s side, the Volunteers claimed the top two spots in the triple jump. Jalen Tate won the event with a leap of 15.86 meters (52-0.5) and Garrison Breeding came in second with a mark of 15.21 meters (49-11).

UT also finished first and second in the 400-meter hurdles. Rasheeme Griffith won (50.85) and Jakwan Hale claimed the runner-up spot (51.35).

The Vols’ 4×100 relay team of Hale, Favour Ashe, Carey McLeod and Emmanuel Byrum posted a victory with a time of 40.20 seconds. Ashe also had a top-10 finish 100-meter dash (10.10).

Chris Bailey, making his outdoor debut for Tennessee, won the 400-meter run (46.02).

Tennessee track and field athletes posted personal best marks at the War Eagle Invitational at Hutsell-Rosen Track in Auburn, Alabama Friday.

Tennessee claimed the top four spots in men’s long jump competition.

Freshman Wayne Pinnock, making his outdoor debut, posted the second best mark in school history with a leap of 8.06 meters (26 feet, 5.5 inches).

Carey McLeod, a 2021 Olympian, finished second with a jump of 7.72 meters (25-4). Anthony Riley was third with a leap of 7.67 meters (25-2) and Jalen Tate was fourth with an effort of 7.44 meters (24-5).

Riley’s leap was a personal best.

In the men’s 1,500-meter run, Tennessee posted four top-10 finishes and recording personal-best times.

Tim Thacker emerged victorious as he crossed the finish line in 3 minutes, 45.45 seconds. Canaan Anderson (3:45.69) was second. Riley Buckholz came in fifth with a time of 3:48.04, while Will Mazur claimed sixth (3:48.11).

In the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, Alex Crigger finished second with a time of 9:02.46.

Lady Vol distance specialists recorded personal bests in the 1,500-meter run. Olivia Janke finished second (4:24.54) and Brooke Dixon was fourth (4:25.50).

Katie Thronson finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (4:25.50).

In the women’s long jump, Mikele Vickers posted a fifth-place finish with an effort of 5.78 meters (18-11.75).

Tennessee wins six events in second day of Tennessee Relays

Volunteers and Lady Vols win six events at Tennessee Relays.

Competing at home in the Tennessee Relays, the Volunteers and Lady Vols claimed a combined six events Friday at Tom Black Track at at LaPorte Stadium.

The second day of the meet was contested in windy and rainy conditions as Tennessee had top finishes.

Freshman Favour Ashe, making his home debut for the Vols, won the men’s Power Hour 60-meter dash as he crossed the finish line in 10.11 seconds.

In the men’s Power Hour 400-meter hurdles, Tennessee’s Rasheeme Griffith posted a winning time of 51.08 seconds.

The Vols’ Alex Kay won the men’s Power Hour 800-meter run as he posted a time of 1 minute, 50.96 seconds.

In the men’s Power Hour long jump, UT’s Anthony Riley won with a leap of 7.66 meters (25 feet, 1.75 inches.

The Lady Vols had a pair of victories Friday as Latavia Maines won the women’s Power Hour shot put competition with an effort of 17.18 meters (56-4.5) and distance specialist Sydney Seymour was victorious in the women’s Power Hour 1,500-meter run as she finished the event in 4:21.37.

Lady Vols post personal best marks at Florida Relays

Lady Vols post personal best marks at Florida Relays on Friday.

Three Lady Vols recorded personal best marks in their respective events at the Florida Relays Friday.

Joella Lloyd, Kyla Robinson-Hubbard and Mikele Vickers all made their 2022 outdoor track and field debuts and broke their previous best marks in Gainesville, Florida.

Lloyd finished sixth in the 200-meter dash as she completed the race in 23.32 seconds.

Robinson-Hubbard competed in the 400-meter hurdles and posted a career-best time of 59.03.

In the long jump, Vickers had a leap of 5.96 meters (19 feet, 6.75 inches).

On the men’s side, Anthony Riley and Georgios Korakidis each posted top-3 finishes for Tennessee.

Riley finished second in the long jump with an effort of 7.54 meters (24-9), while Korakidis competed in the hammer throw and was third among college participants.

He had a throw of 68.19 meters (223-8).

Vols, Lady Vols post top marks at indoor championships

A look at Tennessee’s performance at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The 2022 indoor track and field season concluded Saturday as the two-day NCAA Indoor National Championships were completed at Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama.

The Volunteers finished third and the Lady Vols came in 16th.

Top performances for the Tennessee men included a bronze medal for freshman Favour Ashe, who finished third in the 60-meter dash.

Ashe finished the sprint in 6.55 seconds and earned first-team All-America honors.

Jordan West earned All-America status in the shot put, finishing sixth with a mark of 20.05 meters (65-9.5). It was his second throw over 20-meters in his career with the Vols and West’s fourth All-America finish in his time at UT.

Tennessee’s 4×400-meter relay team of Christopher Bailey, Rasheeme Griffith, Jakwan Hale and Emmanuel Bynum took fifth with a time of 3:05.89. All four members of the team were recognized as first-team All-America.

Carey McCleod claimed his seventh All-America certificate Saturday as he posted a leap of 15.77 meters (51-9). The effort, which came on his third attempt, earned him second-team All-America recognition.

Yariel Soto was named second-team All-America in the heptathlon, finishing  in ninth with 5,832 points.

His effort represents the fourth-best performance in UT track history.

For the Lady Vols, Charisma Taylor finished third in the triple jump as she broke her own school record with a leap of 13.96 meters (45-9.75).

Shot putter Latavia Maines earned a bronze medal, posting a throw of 17.75 meters (58-3) on her third attempt.

Wayne Pinnock wins long jump national championship

Tennessee’s men’s track and field claimed the top two spots in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham Cross Plex in Alabama Friday.

Vols’ freshman Wayne Pinnock claimed the national championship, posting a leap of 7.92 meters (26-0), tying his top effort of the season.

Tennessee redshirt junior Carey McLeod finished second in the event, posting an effort of 7.91 meters (25-11.5).

Both Pinnock and McLeod, who hail from Kingston, Jamaica, received first-team All-America honors with their efforts Friday.

Tennessee redshirt sophomore Emmanuel Bynum finished 12th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.25 seconds. His time earned a second-team All-America honor.

Lady Vols’ Charisma Taylor finished 12th in the 60-meter hurdles (8.07 seconds) and 15th in the long jump (6.15 meters). She was named second-team All-America in both events.

Joella Lloyd finished 14th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.21 seconds, tying her best mark of the season and earning second-team All-America honors.
