Four Tennessee student-athlete leaders to visit SEC headquarters.

Four University of Tennessee student-athletes are among leaders throughout the Southeastern Conference who are visiting the league’s headquarters this weekend.

Tennessee’s student-athletes are participating in a meeting of the SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council in Birmingham, Alabama.

Representing Tennessee are football player Omari Thomas, track and field athlete Mikele Vickers, women’s basketball player Tamari Key and men’s basketball player Jahmai Mashack.

During the two-day event, the Council will hear presentations from Blair Bloomston of Game On Nation and Will Baggett of Emergent Executives, engaging student-athletes on topics of mental health and personal and professional development.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and SEC Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Katie O’Neal will also take part in conversations.

Charisma Taylor earns three All-America certificates

Charisma Taylor earns three All-America certificates.

Tennessee graduate student Charisma Taylor earned three All-America certificates Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Taylor achieved first-team All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.41 meters (21 feet, 0.5 inches).

Taylor also achieved second-team All-America status in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.94. She finished in tenth place and failed to qualify for the finals.

Taylor, Jacious Spears, Nicole Sreenan and Jonah Ross finished tenth in the 4X100-meter relay, completing the race in 42.35 seconds.

Sears, a senior, qualified for the finals of both the 100-meter and 200-meter events. She posted a time of 11.06 seconds in the 100-meter and finished the 200-meter in 22.49 seconds.

Lady Vol Chandler Hayden made her debut in the national championships. She finished 19th in the hammer throw with a mark of 61.47 meters.

Tennessee’s Javonte Harding and Rasheeme Griffith highlight NCAA outdoor championships opening night.

Tennessee competed at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Junior Javonte Harding finished fifth in the men’s 200-meter semifinals (19.88 seconds), joining Justin Coleman and Justin Gatlin as the only Tennessee sprinters to record a sub-20 second time in the event.

Harding will compete in Friday’s final at 10:37 p.m. EDT.

He also competed in the 100-meter dash, finishing 17th and recording a time of 10.12 seconds.

In the 400-meter semifinals, junior Rasheeme Griffith finished in third place (49.00 seconds). He advances to Friday’s final at 10:27 p.m. EDT.

Tennessee graduate student Rasheem Brown recorded a personal best time in the 110-meter hurdles semifinals (13.53).

Brown advances to the finals on Friday at 9:42 p.m. EDT.

Seven Tennessee track and field athletes earn all-academic honors.

Seven Tennessee track and field athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators 2023 CSC Academic All-District Team Wednesday.

Emily Knight, Uchechi Nwogwugwu, Sarah Schmitt, Nicole Sreenan, Canaan Anderson, Peyton Davis and Dylan Jacobs were honored for for their combined performances in track and within the classroom.

To be nominated for academic all-district honors, student-athletes must achieve sophomore standing, have at least a 3.50 grade point average and competed in at least 50 percent of cross country, indoor track and outdoor track competition in which they are eligible.

All-District nominees advance to the CSC All-America ballot.

First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 28-29.

Tennessee athletics earns second consecutive SEC All-Sports title.

University of Tennessee athletics earned its second consecutive SEC All-Sports title, presented by USA TODAY Network.

The Vols and Lady Vols finished first in both men’s and women’s standings for the first time.

Tennessee becomes the second school to sweep the men’s and women’s titles in the same year.

“I’m so proud of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and all the fans and donors who support us,” Tennessee Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Danny White said in a press release. “This is a team accomplishment, and everyone plays an important role. We are just getting started on Rocky Top, but this early success gives us the confidence to keep building!”

31 Tennessee student-athletes to compete at NCAA East Regional preliminary rounds.

Tennessee’s men’s and women’s track and field teams will have 31 student-athletes compete in the NCAA East Regional preliminary round in Jacksonville, Florida.

The NCAA East Regional preliminary round will be contested May 24-27 at Hodges Stadium and hosted by the University of North Florida.

Tennessee’s Dylan Jacobs makes third appearance on The Bowerman watch list.

Tennessee distance specialist Dylan Jacobs made his third consecutive appearance on The Bowerman award men’s watch list in an update from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA).

Jacobs, a graduate student and transfer from Notre Dame, is one of 10 NCAA Division I athletes in contention for the award, honoring the nation’s top male and female athletes.

He made his latest appearance on the watch list Thursday, one week after breaking Tennessee’s program record in the 10,000-meter run.

Christian Coleman was the last Vol to win the award. Coleman competed for Tennessee from 2014-17 and claimed the award during his final season.

Tennessee athletes post top marks at the indoor championships.

Lady Vols’ graduate student Charisma Taylor earned a pair of medals at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Taylor posted a second-place finish in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 14.88 meters (48 feet, 10 inches).

The effort earned her a silver medal and is the second highest mark in NCAA history. She also ranks second on the world list in 2023.

Jacious Sears finished third in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.10.

Distance specialist Dylan Jacobs finished sixth in the men’s 3,000-meter run as he completed the race in 7:52..25.

Jacobs, a graduate student, won the national championship in the 5,000-meter run Friday.

Sprinter Emmanuel Bynum set a school record in the 400-meter dash, breaking his own mark in the event (45.30).

Bynam teamed with Clement Ducos, Jakwan Hale and Rasheeme Griffith to finish tenth in the 4×400 relay, posting a time of 3:08.61 for the Vols.

Tennessee graduate student and distance specialist Dylan Jacobs is a national champion.

Jacobs, who transferred from Notre Dame, won the national championship in the 5,000-meter run Friday as he crossed the finish line in 13 minutes, 37.59 seconds at the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He is Tennessee’s first 5,000-meter champion in program history.

In the women’s weight throw, Lady Vols’ redshirt junior Chandler Hayden achieved second-team All-America honors as she finished ninth with a mark of 22.9 meters (73 feet, 1-75 inches).

She was one of four Tennessee athletes to earn All-America recognition Friday.

Senior Jacious Sears finished ninth in the in the 200-meter dash to receive the first All-America certificate of her career as she posted a personal-best time of 22.80.

Redshirt junior Jesse Henderson recorded a ninth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles as he crossed the finish line in 7.69 seconds.

Henderson, a transfer from Mississippi State, earned his third All-America certificate and first with the Vols.

Javonte Harding finished ninth in the 200-meter dash as he posted a time of 20.52. The North Carolina A&T transfer earned his eighth All-America certificate and first for Tennessee.

Tennessee’s Dylan Jacobs named to the top-10 Bowerman Award watch list.

Tennessee men’s distance specialist Dylan Jacobs has been named to the top-10 for the Bowerman Award watch list.

The award is the highest award for a NCAA Division I track and field athlete and is given annually by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Jacobs, a graduate transfer from Notre Dame, makes his debut on the watch list after recording historically fast times in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs during the 2022-23 indoor season.

At the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships, he set a record in the 3K (7 minutes, 52.49 seconds). He won a gold medal in the conference championships as a member of the Vols’ distance medley relay team.

Other athletes on the watch list include: Mykolis Alekna (California, discus); Drew Bosley (Northern Arizona, distance); Cameron Crump (Mississippi State, jumps); Sean Burrell (LSU, hurdles); Anass Essayi (South Carolina, middle distance), Kyle Garland (Georgia, combined events); Elija Goodwin (Georgia, sprints); Sondre Guttormsen (Princeton, pole vault) and Ayden Owens-Delerme (Arkansas, combined events).
