Titans vs. Jets Player of the Game: Harold Landry III

The Tennessee Titans lost for the second straight week, this time to the New York Jets, and Harold Landry III earned our Player of the Game.

The Tennessee Titans fell to the New York Jets, 24-17, for their second consecutive loss.

The Titans returned home this week and hoped to wipe out last week’s loss to the Chicago Bears with a win on Sunday, but struggled early and fell behind.

In their efforts to regain control of the game, linebacker Harold Landry III rose to the challenge and exhibited strong play and leadership on the field. The result of his effort is earning Player of the Game honors.

Landry was everywhere on the field against the Jets. He recorded three tackles (two solo), 2.0 sacks, two tackles for a loss, and two passes defensed. When the Jets figured out they needed to contain Landry, it opened the field up to other players to make plays and stops.

The Titans defense as a whole played well today, allowing 265 total yards. They held Aaron Rodgers to 164 yards on 18-for-30 passing. It just happens that he also threw two touchdowns. But he was also sacked four times for 23 yards, and Landry had two of those.

Landry is in his sixth season with the Titans and in the NFL. He’s fast becoming a leader on the defense, and his play against the Jets is a good indication of why.

Titans remain 3.5-point underdogs vs. Jets at home

The Titans host the Jets at Nissan Stadium this Sunday and remain 3.5-point underdogs, per BetMGM.

The Tennessee Titans and New York Jets meet at Nissan Stadium in Nashville this Sunday. Both teams suffered a loss in Week 1, the Titans going down to the Chicago Bears 24-17 and the Jets falling to the San Francisco 49ers 32-19.

The two teams’ losses happened in different fashions, with the Titans imploding in the second half and the Jets struggling throughout the game. Despite the Titans carrying the NFL’s number one defense in Week 1, they remain 3.5-point underdogs to the Jets, per BetMGM. The over/under also remains 110.

No doubt the Titans have their work cut out for them against the Jets as they are led by future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It’s hard for anyone to bet against him despite his inconsistent play in Week 1. He spent all of last season rehabbing an Achille’s injury, so there’s still some rust to shake off.

Still, the Titans are at home and boast the current number-one defense in the league. But the offense is run by a sophomore quarterback whose decision-making was questionable last week despite an improved offensive line.

There are many factors that go into determining betting odds, and right now, it’s clear that the Titans need to improve if they want to be favored in future matchups.

Titans vs. Jets: NFL experts make Week 2 picks

See who experts around the league are taking in a Week 2 matchup between the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets.

The Tennessee Titans (0-1) will host the New York Jets (0-1) at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday afternoon.

Opening the week, the Titans were listed as 3.5-point home underdogs but that spread has worsened slightly with New York now listed at -4.

Let’s take a look at who some of the experts and insiders around the league are taking in the Week 2 matchup:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable)
Dan Graziano (ESPN) Jets N/A
Matt Bowen (ESPN) Jets N/A
Seth Wickersham (ESPN) Jets N/A
Pete Prisco (CBS) Titans 23-20
John Breech (CBS) Jets 24-13
Jordan Dajani (CBS) Jets 24-20
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Jets 23-16
Lorenzo Reyes (USA TODAY) Jets 29-10
Bill Bender (Sporting News) Jets  26-20
Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News) Jets  20-17

The above panel overwhelmingly favors the Jets on Sunday but the discrepancy in score predictions indicates a notable level of uncertainty. Some believe the Titans will fall in a blowout, while others see it as a close game.

The lone holdout is Pete Prisco of CBS Sports, who feels the Titans’ defense will lead them to an upset victory.

Other NFL experts and insiders also lean heavily in favor of New York in Week 2. 82 percent pick the Titans to fall, per NFL Pickwatch.

Fans are even more harsh with a remarkable 87 percent predicting a runaway win for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.

Titans vs. Jets: 3 reasons for optimism in Week 2

The Tennessee Titans take on the New York Jets in Week 2 and here are three reasons for optimism in Nashville.

The Tennessee Titans open their 2024 home schedule on Sunday when they take on the New York Jets at Nissan Stadium.

The Titans (0-1) proved they will be competitive on the field against the Chicago Bears, and now they will look to put together an entire 60 minutes to get Brian Callahan his first win.

The Jets (0-1) are also coming off a disappointing loss in Week 1 and will be looking to get into the win column.

There is a lot on the line and this should be an interesting game. The Titans have three reasons to be optimistic that they can bring this one home.

The defense is as advertised

The Titans’ defense answered a lot of questions Sunday against the Bears, but this week they will have a tougher task against Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.

The Titans’ defense is ranked first in total defense after Week 1 and should present a challenge to the Jets. With veteran talent at every level, the defense should give the Titans a chance in every game.

Strong ground game

When the Titans looked their best on Sunday, it was when Tony Pollard was the driving force on offense. The Jets defense looked vulnerable against the run against the 49ers.

Between Pollard and Tyjae Spears, the Titans have a dynamic tandem that should be the focus on offense while Levis is trying to establish himself in the passing game. The Jets gave up 180 yards rushing against the 49ers, which is a big reason why they opened the season with a loss.

Harold Landry and the pass rush

Aaron Rodgers is not Caleb Williams, but the same gameplan should be utilized. No quarterback enjoys pressure and Rodgers is no different, especially as he continues to knock off the rust after missing 2023 with an Achilles injury.

The Titans invested heavily in their secondary, and they should trust that unit to hold up until the rush gets home. This could be another big game for Harold Landry, as he has a favorable match-up with tackle Morgan Moses.

The Titans have many reasons to be optimistic, but we will have to wait until Sunday to find out if that optimism was warranted.

Titans vs. Jets: 3 best player prop bets for Week 2

The Tennessee Titans take on the New York Jets in Week 2 and here’s a look at three of the best player prop bets.

The Tennessee Titans are looking to bounce back in Week 2 after losing a heartbreaker to the Chicago Bears last Sunday.

Even with this game being the home opener, the Titans are 3.5-point underdogs against the New York Jets, per BetMGM. The Jets also lost in Week 1, so it may officially be panic time for the loser of this one.

Let’s look at the three best player prop bets you should consider if you plan on betting on this game.

Tyjae Spears OVER 23.5 rushing yards

After Week 1, head coach Brian Callahan expressed disappointment that Tyjae Spears wasn’t more involved.

“Tony [Pollard] ran the ball, and he was doing a nice job,” Callahan said, via team reporter Jim Wyatt. “But I’d like to get more for Tyjae [Spears]. I’d like him to get rolling a little bit more. We can make that division of labor probably a little closer to equal. … I regret that part of it.”

Well, expect Spears to be involved in Week 2. The Jets allowed 49ers backup running back Jordan Mason to gain 147 yards on the ground in Week 1, so there should be plenty of opportunities for Spears and Pollard. Spears easily surpasses this total.

Garrett Wilson UNDER 5.5 receptions

In Week 1, Garrett Wilson caught six passes for 60 yards. In Week 2, don’t expect the young star to reach the same total.

Wilson will likely be matched up against L’Jarius Sneed, who feels like he has something to prove after Week 1, even as the secondary played well.

In the past, the Titans have primarily been hurt by secondary receivers. Expect Wilson to get locked down on Sunday with Aaron Rodgers forced to distribute the ball elsewhere.

Will Levis OVER 195.5 passing yards

Will Levis had an awful Week 1 performance. However, the quarterback has expressed confidence that he can bounce back in Week 2, and I expect him to.

Levis’ passing yards total is under 200, which immediately makes me want to hammer the over. Brock Purdy threw for 231 yards last week, but his team was in control for much of the game.

This one could become a shootout where Levis has to stretch the ball down the field. I would not be surprised to see Levis bounce back with something like 250 yards and two touchdowns.

Titans vs. Jets: 3 causes for concern

The Titans host the Jets this Sunday and there are three reasons the Titans should be concerned about earning their first win in 2024.

The Tennessee Titans and New York Jets face off at Nissan Stadium this Sunday. Both teams are looking for their first win of the 2024 season after dropping their respective season openers.

Behind the return of Aaron Rodgers, the Jets shook some of the rust off their boots last week against the San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers may still be working through his return, but his veteran leadership and natural ability mean he’s still dangerous.

The Titans, behind Will Levis, have a different path on their hands. They aren’t returning to a specific form after getting their starting quarterback back from injury. Rather, they are battling inexperience both on the field and among the coaching staff.

As both teams work to find their identity and solidify their paths, there are three major causes for concern for the Titans this week.

Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Rodgers is the Jets’ quarterback

Aaron Rodgers is a future Hall-of-Famer and is already known as one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time. He ranks at the top of that list with Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Brett Favre. His talent, his football IQ, his natural ability to see the field are difficult to combat. Stopping him isn’t an easy task, and even with the Titans’ upgraded defense, they will have their work cut out for them on Sunday.

Brian Callahan is still green

The Titans’ second-half implosion against the Chicago Bears can be laid directly at the feet of first-year head coach Brian Callahan. The Titans looked good in the first half, but Callahan failed to make any meaningful or impactful offensive adjustments to change the course of the game. When facing a team like the Jets, which are led by one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, you have to be ready to make adjustments. Callahan’s ability to recover from last week’s loss will play a huge role in the Titans’ ability to win at home on Sunday.

Offensive woes

This isn’t just about Will Levis being young, just in his second year in the NFL. This is about the amount of time he’s given to make a decision, and it’s about being able to find an open man. The offensive line still allowed three sacks last week, which cannot continue if they want Levis to remain healthy. However, Levis also has to make smarter decisions and utilize his tools. DeAndre Hopkins was all but invisible against the Bears, and the other receivers didn’t have much of an impact. The Titans have to tighten up the offense if they want to win games.

Gimme him: One player Titans would steal from Jets

If the Tennessee Titans could steal one player from the New York Jets it would have to be their future Hall of Fame quarterback. Here’s why.

The Tennessee Titans will attempt to bounce back in Week 2 when they take on the New York Jets on Sunday during their home opener.

That, of course, provides those of us here at Titans Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal from the Jets’ roster in search of depth and/or talent upgrades.

In looking over New York’s depth chart, there are plenty of options available. However, one player stands far above the rest: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

After watching the Titans against the Chicago Bears, it’s clear they have a defense in place to be a contender. Unfortunately, quarterback Will Levis couldn’t hold up his end of the bargain leading to the loss, making Rodgers the obvious choice.

While the future Hall of Famer may not be the same player he was before the Achilles tear, it would be a tremendous upgrade over Levis. His ability to quickly process the opposition’s defense would transform the Titans’ offense.

With Rodgers, the Titans could take full advantage of a solid veteran receiving corps and a dynamic rushing attack and become a force in the AFC South and with their defense, a playoff contender.

What are your thoughts, Titans fans? Would you pick Aaron Rodgers or steal an entirely different player from the New York Jets?

Titans vs. Bears Player of the Game: Tony Pollard

The Tennessee Titans lost to the Chicago Bears, 24-17, on Sunday and RB Tony Pollard is our Player of the Game.

The Tennessee Titans opened their season on the road against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. The Titans came out strong and looked good in the first half, taking a 17-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Unfortunately, the Bears came out of the locker room with more fire than the Titans and scored 21 unanswered points to win the game 24-17.

Despite the Titans’ loss, one player stood out above the rest to earn this week’s Player of the Game: Tony Pollard.

Pollard rushed 16 times for 81 yards and a touchdown, plus added three receptions for 12 yards. He was responsible for the second-most yards on the team, behind only Will Levis.

This was Pollard’s debut game with the Titans. He had spent the last five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, where he recorded 3,621 yards on 762 carries, ran for 23 touchdowns, and fumbled only twice. Pollard joined the Titans during free agency as part of their effort to bring in veteran weapons to support Levis in his second season, and he was instrumental in the Titans’ offensive efforts today.

As a veteran dual-threat running back, Pollard is a reliable option for Levis on almost every play. As long as he can get Pollard the ball without turning it over.
