When was the last time the 49ers won the Super Bowl?

It’s been ~30~ years since the #49ers last won a Super Bowl, but there are a ton of coincidences that line up this year’s club with their last Super Bowl winner:

The 49ers historically have helped define NFL postseason success. They dominated the 1980s and early 1990s and won all five of their Super Bowl trips in that span. Getting their sixth has proven to be a long, difficult road.

San Francisco on Sunday will be in its third Super Bowl since the 2012 season, but they haven’t won a Lombardi Trophy since the 1994 season.

In 1994 the 49ers were loaded and after three NFC championship losses in four years finally got over the hump in Super Bowl XXIX, thumping the Chargers 49-26.

Now they find themselves in a similar position. In the last four years they have a Super Bowl loss and two consecutive NFC championship losses, and they enter this Super Bowl with a loaded roster.

If history continues repeating itself and the 49ers can knock off an AFC West team in the Super Bowl, it will end a 30-year championship drought for San Francisco.

6 pending free agents in the Super Bowl the Steelers need to keep an eye on

The Chiefs and Niners have several interesting free agents that the Steelers could use.

Despite not making the Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the rest of the NFL world will have their eyes on the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. We will be watching and we will be keeping a close eye on these six pending free agents playing as guys the Steelers might want to target.

How 49ers can mitigate Patrick Mahomes factor in Super Bowl LVIII

“Patrick Mahomes” has been the reasoning behind the Chiefs becoming the public favorite in Super Bowl LVIII. Here’s how the 49ers can stop that from being a deciding factor:

The Chiefs are the public favorite to beat the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII despite the fact San Francisco was the better of the two teams for most of the 2023 season. Part of that is the recency bias of the playoffs. Kansas City blew out the Miami Dolphins and then knocked off two perceived juggernauts in the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens to reach the Super Bowl. Meanwhile the 49ers struggled against the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. The other key reason people are picking Kansas City is their superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

It makes sense that Mahomes would be the overarching reason the Chiefs would be the pick. He doesn’t do much losing, especially in the playoffs, and his penchant for leading comebacks gives the Chiefs the ultimate trump card in a game that figures to be tight.

There’s nothing San Francisco can do about the previous couple of playoff games, but there are ways they can stop Mahomes’ individual brilliance from becoming a factor;

Do it for the Bay: Warriors coach Steve Kerr delivers Super Bowl prediction

“Go Niners.”

While the San Francisco 49ers were prepping for the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Golden State Warriors hosted Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns in a primetime battle at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

Before the game, Kerr showed support for the 49ers. The Warriors coach wore a red 49ers quarter zip in front of the media at the pregame press conference on Saturday.

When asked if he has a Super Bowl prediction, the four-time NBA champion coach didn’t hesitate to deliver. Kerr quickly pointed to the 49ers emblem on his quarter-zip, saying, “Right here, go Niners.”

These four Chiefs free agents in Super Bowl LVIII would be nice additions for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals, of course, have needs all over the roster.

The Chiefs won’t likely be able to keep all their free agents.

These players would be good additions once free agency begins in March.

No former Cardinals likely to play in Super Bowl with Chiefs, 49ers

Of the four former Cardinals on the 49ers and Chiefs, only Chiefs backup QB Blaine Gabbert is on an active roster.

The Arizona Cardinals definitely did not make it to the Super Bowl. Super Bowl LVIII is between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.

There are former Cardinals players on both teams. They likely will not make an appearance.

Between the two teams, only one former Cardinals player is on an active roster. The rest are on their practice squads.

Who are the former players?
