Coastal Carolina (7-0) vs Arkansas State (3-5) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Appalachian State Will Win

The running game has been devastating, and even when it wasn’t the team found a way to win.

The Mountaineers were able to rumble for over 300 yards on the ground in four of the first five games – with the only loss coming to Marshall when they were held in check – and they managed to get by Georgia State when the offense struggled.

Coastal Carolina’s run defense has been fantastic with one of the best, most active defensive fronts among the Group of Five programs, but it was hit by Louisiana for 236 yards and hasn’t been barreled on like ASU is about to do.

For all of the good things Coastal Carolina does, Appalachian State is the best in the Sun Belt offensively on third downs, the secondary is great at taking the ball away, and the team is air-tight overall when it comes to mistakes.

CFN Experts Picks, Predictions: Week 12

Why Coastal Carolina Will Win

Yeah, Coastal Carolina had a few problems with the Louisiana running game, and allowed 205 to Campbell, but the front seven was all over the Georgia Southern option attack and stopped it cold.

Georgia State has one of the nation’s most dangerous ground games, and it went absolutely nowhere.

Coastal Carolina is swarming in the backfield on a regular basis – if you haven’t seen Tarron Jackson yet, here you go – and few quarterbacks are playing better than Grayson McCall, who’s hitting 70% of his passes with 16 touchdowns and just one pick.

This is a team playing with extreme confidence, it’s not making mistakes, and …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

Coastal Carolina will probably have to beat Appalachian State twice – or the other way around.

Louisiana will have something to say about it – it plays Appalachian State in early December – but these are the two best teams in the Sun Belt playing what should be one of the best games of the day.

Both defenses are fantastic, and both offenses have been timely and efficient. At home, with the momentum after taking everyone’s big shot over the last several games, Coastal Carolina will be just a bit stronger with a better day from the defensive front.

Army (6-2) vs Georgia Southern (6-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Georgia Southern Will Win

Can Georgia Southern stop the run? Yup.

The Eagles are brilliant at controlling the clock, the running game is the fifth-best in the nation, and linebackers and young safeties are guided missiles against the run for a defense that hasn’t allowed more than 35 rushing yards in either of the last two games, hasn’t given up more than 150 on the ground all year, and gave up just two touchdown runs in the last five games.

Can Army stop the run? Sort of.

It was a rock over the first part of the season, but it gave up over 100 yards in each of the last four games. It’s a very good run D, and the team knows how to hold up against this style, but the Georgia Southern ground attack is a machine with over 700 yards in the last two games.

CFN Experts Picks, Predictions: Week 12

Why Army Will Win

Army has been able to win games even when the ground game isn’t ripping it up.

This is the second-best running team in the nation behind Air Force, and it’s averaging over 300 yards per game, but it hasn’t quite been the dominant force it usually is when it’s humming …

And it’s still 6-2 with the two losses to Cincinnati and Tulane from the American Athletic Conference.

There’s more of a power element to the Army ground attack than Georgia Southern brings – 260-pound Jakobi Buchanan is a hammer – and it’s got the big play ability on the outside.

In a game like this, field position matters – Army has a far, far better punting game.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

How much does home field matter? Army is 5-0 at home and 1-2 on the road, and it’s the same for Georgia Southern – 5-0 at home and 1-2 on the road.

However, Army beat three FCS teams at home along with a ULM team that hasn’t won a game, and Georgia Southern’s two losses came to Coastal Carolina and Louisiana.

The Eagles are playing better than Army with a stronger defense and a bit more efficient an offense. Expect the two teams to combine for well over 500 rushing yards in a game that will be among the fastest of the day.

Troy (4-3) vs Middle Tennessee (2-6) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Troy Will Win

The Trojans are playing well on D, doing a great job on third downs, generating a good enough pass rush to get by, and being adaptable enough to deal with just about any style.

On the flip side, the Middle Tennessee D has been awful at getting off the field, it’s giving up points in bunches – getting worse as the season has gone on – and all being stressed further by an offense that keeps turning the ball over. The Blue Raiders have turned it over two times or more in five games including three last week in the loss to Marshall.

If Troy can get hot early through the air – hitting 330 yards or more wasn’t a problem for four straight games before being ground down by Georgia Southern – this is over.

CFN Experts Picks, Predictions: Week 12

Why Middle Tennessee Will Win

The Blue Raiders have a passing game of their own.

It’s been accurate over the last several weeks – it only failed to hit 60% once this year – and it keep up with the Trojans if this gets into any sort of a shootout.

Troy might have a high-powered offense and a ton of passing production, but it lost two of its last three games when it couldn’t handle the ground game. The Trojans are 0-3 when allowing 190 yards or more on the ground and 4-0 when allowing fewer. Middle Tennessee has hit 190 rushing yards twice, so it’s possible, but …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

It’s a strange second meeting between these two – Troy already won 47-14 at in the second week of the season.

Troy dominated the clock, forced three turnovers, and came up with an almost perfectly balanced attack as it had the game on by halftime.

Troy will do a better job of keeping things moving with a quick-hitting passing game that forces Middle Tennessee to press. The Trojan defense will hold up enough against the run to make it 5-0 when allowing fewer than 190 yards.

It’ll be closer in the rematch, but Troy will pull this off again.

Georgia (4-2) vs Mississippi State (2-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Georgia Will Win

Mississippi State’s offense isn’t just bad, it’s totally failing.

It’s been able to score a little bit with a win over Vanderbilt last week, but it did it with 204 yards of total offense, marking the fourth straight game with fewer than 300 yards of total O.

Georgia’s defense might be banged up, and there might be a whole lot of concerns on the offensive side, but this is still a very good, very talented group that couldn’t handle Alabama or Florida. The D had no issues in the other four games, holding everyone else to fewer than 300 yards of offense.

The Bulldog pressure and pass rush should be able to bother the Mississippi State backfield, there’s absolutely no running game to worry about, and this isn’t going to be the week the Mike Leach attack starts to work.

Why Mississippi State Will Win

The Mississippi State defense is still doing a strong job.

It gets lost because all of the attention is on the pathetic offensive production, but the defensive side continues to fight the good fight. It was able to hold Alabama to under 500 yards – barely, but it did it – and while it allowed too many passing yards against Vanderbilt, overall, the D is still great against the run and it has the ability to keep the score low.

Georgia is still going to be messing around with a quarterback situation that’s going to be an issue for the rest of the season. Stetson Bennett is trying to get back from a shoulder injury, the fans are waiting for another option to step up, and no matter what, there’s not enough of a passing game for this MSU secondary to worry about.

What’s Going To Happen

These two haven’t played as often as you might think. This is just the 25th meeting with Georgia winning 11 of the last 12 going back to 1974 and being 18-6 overall after losing 9-0 back in 1914.

Georgia won’t be anything special this week offensively, and it won’t have to be. The defense will keep the Mississippi State O that can’t push the ball down the field under wraps.

College Football News Rankings 1-127: After Week 11

College Football News 2020 college football rankings after Week 11

College Football News 2020 college football rankings after Week 11

Who did you beat?

Now it’s really coming down to the various resumés, and there’s a problem.

BYU and Cincinnati haven’t beaten anyone all that great. There’s no Power Five win for either one, and the supposedly big wins they did come up with now seem like no big deal with all the Power Five conference schedules rolling. However, they’ve been so dominant that they get the benefit of the doubt – sort of.

Sorry, but even in their weakened states, beating Penn State and Michigan is still impressive – and Indiana still has to go to Ohio State and Wisconsin.

So feel free to fire out your beefs and complaints – this is a work in progress and we want to make sure we get all of this as close to the pin as possible – but before you do, look at your team’s schedule and keep diving in further. You’ll probably have your answer.

Cal (0-0) vs UCLA (0-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Cal Will Win

It’s going to take a while before Cal gets its legs, but the secondary will be one of the team’s biggest strengths. UCLA’s running game was good in the opener, but it’s going to want to move quickly with the passing game.

The defensive backs will be the one area the Cal coaching staff can rely on.

Offensively, Cal has to control the clock. This might not be a grinding attack, but Colorado had the ball for almost 40 minutes las week against the Bruins. Trying to keep things as simple as possible, Cal has a better shot of pounding out the running game against the UCLA D than the other way around.

Week 11 Schedule, Predictions, Lines

Why UCLA Will Win

The Bruin passing game worked right away.

It might have been a rough outing in the 48-42 loss to the Buffs, but Dorian Thompson-Robinson was outstanding – he took off for 109 yards and threw for 404 yards and three touchdowns – and there were a whole lot of big plays and shots down the field.

This is going to be another tough Cal D, but it has to replace a whole slew of parts up front, tacking-machine Evan Weaver is gone from the linebacking corps, and it might take a little bit for the offensive side to get going.

UCLA has a game under its belt. Cal has had no time to prepare for the Bruins, and it has to be the one to make the trip in this very, very odd game.

CFN College Football Experts Picks

What’s Going To Happen

UCLA was supposed to play Utah, Cal was supposed to play Arizona State, so let’s just get out there and go on a Sunday morning.

Anyone, anywhere, anytime.

UCLA might have the explosion and the offensive experience to get going right away and be a whole lot shaper than Cal, but Bear QB Chase Garbers will be strong, the defense will be great, and this will turn into a much more even performance than you might think.

Georgia Southern (5-2) vs Texas State (1-8) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Texas State Will Win

The Bobcats aren’t winning, but the offense hasn’t been all that bad. It’s able to run well over the last two weeks, it’s been doing a decent job of keeping games in range, and the defense is helping the cause with enough takeaways to make things interesting.

The O has turned it over a bit too often lately, but the four takeaways kept it close against a far stronger Louisiana, and the team overall is more active and more energetic than the stats and record would indicate. However …

Week 11 Schedule, Predictions, Lines

Why Georgia Southern Will Win

Can Texas State stop the run?

There aren’t enough plays behind the line, and there isn’t going to be enough pressure to stop things before they get going. Georgia Southern might not be the dominant rushing force it normally is, but it’s still averaging with 260 yards per game, and most importantly for this game, it’s going to control the clock.

Texas State likes to act with a quick tempo and tries to control the pace, but that also means it holds on to the ball for just 27 minutes per game. Georgia Southern owns the clock, keeping it 35 minutes per outing.

CFN College Football Experts Picks

What’s Going To Happen

Texas State will once again fight the good fight, keep everything close, and then come up just short.

The Georgia Southern running game will rumble for close to 300 yards, have the ball for 38 minutes, and will answer every Bobcat score with a scoring drive of its own.

Georgia State (3-3) vs Appalachian State (5-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Georgia State Will Win

The offense is back to being the offense.

Georgia State’s attack was among the nation’s most balanced – hitting 200 yards on the ground in every game but one, and throwing for over 200 yards in two of the first four games – and then came Coastal Carolina.

The Panthers were stuffed in the 51-0 loss, and then bounced back to rock ULM with 504 yards of total offense. The Appalachian State defense is good, it’s great at getting into the backfield, but it’s possible to keep things moving – it gave up over 200 yards both rushing and receiving to Texas State last week.

Week 11 Schedule, Predictions, Lines

Why Appalachian State Will Win

Can Appalachian State get its amazing running game going?

It sputtered against Marshall and ripped up everyone else, hitting the 300-yard mark in four of the first five games and hit Texas State last week for 258 yards.

The offensive line has been a rock, the O as a whole isn’t making mistakes, and the secondary is great at coming up with stops. This is the Sun Belt’s best  offense, and it’s going to keep the Georgia State offense off the field with a few long drives. However …

CFN College Football Experts Picks

What’s Going To Happen

The Georgia State run defense is going to be a problem.

The Panthers are excellent at taking the ball away, it’s great at pressuring the quarterback, and the run D has allowed more than 85 yards just twice. However, those two times were to Louisiana and Coastal Carolina.

Appalachian State will run for more than 85 yards.
