Steelers lose out on potential trade for Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf

We’ll never know the Pittsburgh Steelers’ true intentions to trade for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf because it’s not happening now.

We’ll never know the Pittsburgh Steelers’ true intentions to trade for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf because it’s not happening now.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday that “despite any speculation, the Seahawks will not be trading wide receiver D.K. Metcalf by today’s 4 pm trade deadline.”

Metcalf was among several wide receivers rumored to be tied to Pittsburgh before today’s 4 p.m. trade deadline.

As for whether the Steelers are in on any moves today, Mike Tomlin had nothing of value to add. “We work the trade market not only at [wide receiver] but all positions. I think every team does, particularly those of us that are trying to lean in as the road gets narrow, and so I acknowledge that we’re active participants in trade discussions, but to be quite honest with you, we always are, and so I wouldn’t read too much into that behavior. I just think that’s normal prudent business for us. If you’re trying to be a developing world championship outfit.”

Report: Steelers making ‘aggressive offer’ for Raiders’ Davante Adams

The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be all in on wide receiver Davante Adams, who recently requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Davante Adams’ cryptic post of a picture of poet Edgar Allan Poe sent shockwaves through the NFL rumor mill and sparked speculation about the All-Pro wide receiver’s potential move to Baltimore. The thought of Pittsburgh’s rival acquiring the Las Vegas Raiders wideout makes Steelers fans feel weak and weary, and apparently Omar Khan feels the same way, as reports suggest he is in aggressive talks with the Raiders to acquire Adams.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic wrote the following about a potential deal between the Raiders and Steelers:

“The Pittsburgh Steelers, who you may recall were interested in trading for Brandon Aiyuk before he signed an extension with San Francisco this summer, are also in touch with the Raiders’ front office. I’m told Pittsburgh is making an aggressive offer.”

What does aggressive mean in terms of a potential trade package? Could the Steelers mortgage their future to focus on winning now? No one knows for certain, but time and time again, the “Khan Artist” has proved to be the most dangerous weapon in the Steelers organization.

Raiders reveal considered trade compensation for potential Steelers target Davante Adams

Las Vegas Raiders revealed what they would consider in a trade for star wide receiver Davante Adams.

Shortly after an appearance on “Up & Adams,” Davante Adams told the Las Vegas Raiders he preferred to be traded.

This after the Raiders had already started making phone calls to teams to gauge interest in the 31-year-old receiver.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Raiders would consider a trade package that includes a second-round pick and additional compensation.

In the end, general manager Omar Khan and Steelers brass fell short of a trade for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Now that they’re struggling offensively, even at 3-1, could that change what the Steelers might be willing to give up for Adams?

Steelers could be among teams Raiders ‘reaching out’ to in Davante Adams trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be among the teams the Las Vegas Raiders are calling in trade for veteran wide receiver Davante Adams.

As was the entire media and fan focus of the offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers are a wide receiver away from putting an explosive offense on the field.

Last game’s fumble aside, George Pickens is doing all he can by putting the pass-catching game on his shoulders, but Van Jefferson has contributed nothing.

The Steelers absolutely cannot go through the rest of the 2024 season without a top-producing wideout if they want to be competitive down the stretch.

Vinny Bonsignore, Raiders beat writer for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, tweeted this tidbit Tuesday afternoon:

More on this to come: A league source with knowledge of the situation confirmed that the Raiders are growing open to the idea of trading Davante Adams. The source said the club has begun reaching out to teams to gauge interest in the veteran wide receiver.

While Bonsignore did not divulge which teams the Raiders are contacting for trade talks, Pittsburgh has to be among them. The main concern is that the Steelers have not shown the willingness to part with draft picks or the financial package required to gain top talent.

The Steelers aren’t the only team with needs at wide receiver. The Kansas City Chiefs likely lost their No. 1 receiver, Rashee Rice, for the season. If Adams has a choice, the Super Bowl-champion Chiefs are far more tempting.

REPORT: Steelers await one final piece in trade deal for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk

Nearly one month after WR Brandon Aiyuk requested to be traded from the 49ers, the saga drags on for the Steelers.

Nearly one month after wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk requested to be traded from the San Francisco 49ers, the saga drags on.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted an “update” that’s not really an update. Nothing new to see here.

The song remains the same: The Pittsburgh Steelers have put forth a strong offer for the sought-after receiver, as well as a strong contract once the trade is finalized. Pittsburgh is still playing the waiting game with the ball squarely in the Niners’ court.

The 49ers re-entered contract negotiations with Aiyuk over the weekend, but as Rapoport said, he has not accepted their offer.

From the start, it was clear Aiyuk no longer wanted to be a Niner. Months ago, Aiyuk stated it was between the Commanders and Steelers if he didn’t remain in San Francisco. Washington, along with the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots, dropped out of the race weeks ago with Pittsburgh as the last team standing should he be traded.

Why are Steelers, 49ers stalling on finalizing Brandon Aiyuk trade?

The Steelers made both strong trade and contract offers to the 49ers for WR Brandon Aiyuk.

The moment the trade between the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Fransisco 49ers for Brandon Aiyuk goes down, all will be right in the world.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that Pittsburgh made both a strong trade offer and a strong contract offer for Aiyuk. Nothing concrete has been revealed about what precisely those offers have been.

So, why are they stalling?

The Steelers have just one more training camp session before summer practices end and 27 days until kickoff. Meanwhile, Aiyuk has been holding in at Niners camp, watching practice and participating in team meetings in San Fran.

One has to wonder if, as a veteran receiver, Aiyuk simply doesn’t wish to participate in the grueling training camp process.

Perhaps the deal will finally go down once Latrobe is a distant memory. Then, it becomes a matter of Aiyuk learning the playbook and getting reconditioned to practice. If Aiyuk does join the Steelers at this late stage, he could need to be eased in to help avoid injury.

What would the Steelers have to give up in trade for Broncos WR Courtland Sutton?

A Steelers insider revealed what the team could have to surrender in a trade for Broncos WR Courtland Sutton.

Forget the San Fransisco 49ers. That ship has all but sailed. It also appears the ship has sailed on acquiring Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton. But as we’ve seen in the past, when we think a potential deal is dead, something comes together.

What could a deal between Pittsburgh and Denver for Sutton look like? The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly speculates that it wouldn’t be much.

“Maybe a third-rounder, but the extension would have to be worked out before a deal would be made,” Kaboly wrote.

What’s interesting about Sutton, aside from his 1,601 yards and dozen touchdowns off now-Steelers QB Russell Wilson‘s arm, is that he has an existing relationship with Pittsburgh’s wide receivers coach, Zach Azzanni. Azzanni was Sutton’s position coach for all seasons but 2023 when he was with the New York Jets.

Something has to come together for the Pittsburgh Steelers and a top-tier receiver. They absolutely cannot go into the season with George Pickens, a rookie and a slew of average wideouts and expect to be competitive.

Reporter narrows down ‘significant playmaker’ rumor about Steelers

One wide receiver who’s been a rumored target of the Pittsburgh Steelers is reportedly no longer an option.

Rumors that the Pittsburgh Steelers were adding a big-time wide receiver had quieted a bit during the NFL draft. But it all came flooding back today when CBS Sports analyst Bryant McFadden stirred the pot with a tweet that the Steelers are “very close to landing a significant playmaker.”

One player who’s been tied to Pittsburgh this offseason is Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

Mike Klis, longtime Broncos reporter for 9 News Denver, laid the Sutton rumors to rest: “It’s not Courtland. No plans to trade him. As Paton and Payton let Broncoland know in recent weeks, Sutton in good standing.”

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on April 20 that, indeed, the Broncos weren’t parting ways with Sutton.

Sutton was a favorite target of now-Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson in Denver and snagged a career-high 10 touchdown passes in 2023.

Though his end zone production could improve under Arthur Smith, Pittsburgh’s presumed No. 1 receiver, George Pickens, has nine touchdowns in two seasons.

Possible Steelers trade target Brandon Aiyuk posts cryptic message on IG

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s Instagram story indicates “fireworks” are coming on draft day. Does that mean a trade?

Days after unfollowing the San Fransisco 49ers on social media, disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk posted a cryptic message to his Instagram story.

“Brother said we got 6 days and it’s fireworks,” Aiyuk wrote. It’s not likely a coincidence that six days from today is day one of the 2024 NFL draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked to Aiyuk for several weeks now. His agent denied that he requested a trade, and there were even questions about whether the Niners wanted to part ways with him.

Whether it’s the Steelers — and it’s evident fans would be all over that — or another team, Aiyuk doesn’t seem long for the 49ers.

What would Steelers have to give up in trade for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk?

What would the Steelers have to give up for a player of Aiyuk’s caliber?

A Brandon Aiyuk trade has been the hottest topic tied to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason.

The disgruntled wide receiver unfollowed the San Fransisco 49ers on social media this week, a clear sign that ongoing negotiations for a long-term contract are not going well.

For a player, deleting association with a team is akin to changing relationship status to single and removing all photo evidence of your significant other and it does often lead to a parting of ways.

Mandatory minicamp doesn’t start until June, but the Steelers and their fans certainly hope the courtship doesn’t last that long.

What would Pittsburgh have to give up for Aiyuk?

“I think what would be more likely is the Steelers giving up a future No. 2 choice and also swapping first-round picks,” the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac wrote in his April 17 Q&A.

It may sound like a lot, but the Steelers need a top-tier veteran after trading their own in a March to the Carolina Panthers. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Pittsburgh uses a first- or second-round pick on a receiver in the NFL draft, so swapping and giving up one for a proven player is worth it. A rookie is an unknown commodity outside of college-level performance.

If the deal goes down, it becomes a matter of what’s next.

An ideal scenario would involve San Fransisco footing some (or all) of Aiyuk’s $14 million salary for this season. Though Pittsburgh wouldn’t need to extend him this offseason, it’s likely they would because he’s entering the final year of his deal. According to Spotrac, Aiyuk’s market value is $24.9 million, and that sounds like the low end of the final figure.

At 26, Aiyuk hasn’t even reached his prime yet and he’s produced insane numbers (2,357 yards, 15 touchdowns) over the past two seasons. He’ll be around for a contract or two.

Aiyuk is worth it, even if it’s not to the San Fransisco 49ers.
