Some sports bettors won big thanks to Nets defeating Bucks

A few sports bettors had some faith in the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday.

To put it lightly, the Brooklyn Nets were underdogs heading into Tuesday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks — as they should have been.

On top of the players who didn’t make it to the Disney bubble, Brooklyn was without Caris LeVert, Joe Harris and Jarrett Allen. Then, mid-game, the Nets lost Jamal Crawford (strained left hamstring).

Yet the Nets walked away with a 119-116 win — the biggest upset the NBA has seen since the 90’s.

So, if anyone decided to put a little cash down on the Nets beating the spread, they made a pretty penny at Milwaukee’s expense.

According to Darren Rovell of the Action Network, there were a few bettors who made out big on Tuesday. Two individuals bet on the moneyline at Bet MGM with the Nets at 13/1. One bettor won $7,800 after putting down $600 and another won $5,200 after putting down $400.

Someone bet $800 on the moneyline (+1300) at FanDuel Sportsbook and won $10,400 thanks to Brooklyn.

Even though anyone betting on the Bucks would’ve had to put a lot of money down to win anything worthwhile, Rovell reported someone bet on the Bucks with Bet MGM on Tuesday.

Now, this individual only bet on the first quarter of the game, expecting Milwaukee to win it. But, this bettor gambled $11,000 to win $1,834 and lost, with the Nets winning the first quarter 40-34.

Nets’ win over Bucks biggest NBA upset since the 90’s

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s team helped make history on Tuesday; only, the Bucks were on the wrong side of it.

Even if the Nets had Spencer Dinwiddie, DeAndre Jordan, Wilson Chandler and Taurean Prince with them in the bubble, the Milwaukee Bucks would’ve entered Tuesday’s game against Brooklyn as the favorites.

Not only were they without those five — on top of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving — Brooklyn also didn’t have Caris LeVert, Joe Harris or Jarrett Allen. And they lost Jamal Crawford after he logged only five minutes of action.

Yet the Nets found themselves on the right side of a 119-116 finish on Tuesday, handing the Bucks a stunning loss.

But, make no mistake, this wasn’t just any old upset.

This was the biggest NBA upset since 1995.

According to Steve Petrella of The Action Network, “the Nets closed at 18.5 or +19 depending on the book” ahead of Tuesday’s game.

The biggest NBA upset since 1995 — prior to Tuesday’s game, per Petrella — came in 1997 when the Nuggets knocked off the Wizards with the spread closed at +17.

According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the biggest upset before 1995 came on April 6, 1993, when the Mavericks (+19.5) beat the Seattle SuperSonics.

Spread set on Nets’ first Disney matchup, East title odds

The Brooklyn Nets will face the Orlando Magic first when they head to Disney World at the end of July to resume the 2019-20 NBA season.

As the NBA gets set to resume the 2019-20 season at Disney World in Florida, sportsbooks have prepared the odds on who will win the Eastern and Western Conference titles and the NBA Finals, as well as spreads on games from the first three days of play.

The Brooklyn Nets were given much better odds to win the NBA title than the Washington Wizards (1000/1) and Orlando Magic (250/1) by BetOnline. The sportsbook also thinks Brooklyn (60/1) has a better chance to earn the title than the Indiana Pacers (100/1), but the Nets remain longshots.

As for winning the Eastern Conference Finals, the Nets were given 25/1 odds, trailing five other teams.

BetOnline has the Los Angeles Lakers (5/4) and Milwaukee Bucks (5/9) as the favorites to come out of the West and East, respectively. As for winning the NBA Finals, the Lakers (9/4) have a slight edge over the Bucks (3/1).

When it comes to the spread in Brooklyn’s first game — which is against the Magic — BetOnline is giving a slight edge to Orlando (-2).

Nets receive middle-of-the-pack championship odds as NBA plans to resume

Oddsmakers don’t seem convinced Kevin Durant is coming back for the resumption of the 2019-20 NBA season.

With the NBA establishing a plan to return in just under two months, pending the Board of Governors’ approval, sportsbooks won’t have to lean on unique events (i.e. ESPN’s “The Last Dance) or less mainstream sports anymore.

When reports of the league’s plans surfaced, SportsLine made sure to get some odds out for sports bettors — the first set being the NBA title lines.

Of course, the Los Angeles Lakers (+240), Milwaukee Bucks (+260) and Los Angeles Clippers (+320) still have the three best odds to win the 2020 NBA Finals.

Scrolling down SportsLine’s list, the Brooklyn Nets pop up +4000 odds to win it all, tied with the Miami Heat and the Utah Jazz — the latter of which lost Bojan Bogdanovic for the rest of the season during the league’s hiatus due to surgery.

The NBA is expected to receive an answer from the Board of Governors regarding their proposal on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Buccaneers close the gap with the Saints in updated Super Bowl odds

It takes more than Tom Brady to put the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of the New Orleans Saints, at least as far as Super Bowl LV bettors care.

[jwplayer Da1nTysX-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints have called the shots in the NFC South for three years in a row, winning the division crown each time and condemning the also-rans like the Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Carolina Panthers to the cellar.

Tampa Bay has arguably done more than any other team to try and catch up to New Orleans, signing legendary New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and working quickly in the 2020 NFL Draft to surround him with better protection (in Iowa left tackle Tristan Wirfs) and playmakers on defense (with Minnesota safety Antoine Winfield Jr.). The Buccaneers also coaxed Rob Gronkowski out of retirement to catch passes from Brady again.

And all of those moves have inspired some confidence among sportsbettors. Per the latest odds from BetMGM, the Saints and Buccaneers have the same chances of winning Super Bowl LV (at +1100), trailing the teams that competed in last year’s title game and a contender that hopes to fill the void Brady left in the AFC hierarchy. The Kansas City Chiefs (+650), the Baltiomre Ravens (+750), and the San Francisco 49ers (+900) are each slotted in ahead of the top-two NFC South squads, with the Philadelphia Eagles (+1800) rounding out the top tier.

While New Orleans and Tampa Bay are perceived as equals in the Super Bowl race, the Saints do have an edge in odds for winning the division. Ahead of the rest at 100-even, the Saints narrowly lead the Buccaneers (+120) in pursuit of a first-place finish while also facing the longest chances of total failure. If there’s a sprint to the bottom, the Buccaneers (+3000) have a better shot at futility than the Saints (+3500), which is kind of reassuring.
