Wil Lutz FG saves Saints in OT, bettor $1.48 million

The Saints overcame a 20-3 deficit to down the Chargers 30-27 in OT. The win saved a bettor, big time.

It was one win for the New Orleans Saints Monday night. For one bettor, they saved him $1.48 million on a moneyline wager and won him $446,000.

Trust us, no one would be surprised if the wagerer needed a defibrillator.

Wil Lutz kicked a 36-yard field goal with 5:08 left in overtime to give the Saints, who trailed by 17 at one point, a 30-27 lead.

The Chargers’ subsequent drive went for naught whenย  Justin Herbert found Mike Williams, who was stopped a half-yard short of a first down at midfield on a fourth-and-six.

Brees was 1-48 when falling behind by as many as 17 points in his career. The only victory came in 2009 against the Miami Dolphins. The Saints trailed that game 24-3 and went on to win 46-34.

Make Brees now 2-48 and add $446,000 to someone’s wallet.

Anthony Lynn and his Chargers are now 1-4 after losing another one-score game.

Watch: Mike Williams makes incredible catch for the Chargers

Mike Williams made a stunning catch but the Chargers failed to capitalize.

Mike Williams specializes in the incredible catch. He delivered another one in the final seconds Monday night with the Los Angeles Chargers tied with the New Orleans Saints.

Check it out as Williams, who earlier caught a 64-yard TD pass, goes up and somehow comes down with the ball to put LA in field-goal range with the game tied at 27.

The acrobatic catch did not pay off as Michael Badgely, who missed a PAT earlier, hit the goalpost with his 50-yard field-goal attempt.

Time for overtime.

Watch: Saints’ Alvin Kamara, Taysom Hill deliver big-time plays

Taysom Hill scored on a running play after Alvin Kamara made a great catch in the fourth quarter.

The New Orleans Saints trailed 27-20 in the final minutes of regulation Monday against the Los Angeles Chargers. Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, and Taysom Hill came up big.

First, Brees threw a pass that Kamara made an incredible catch on while going out of bounds for 28 yards.

Check this out:

Then, Sean Payton showed the kind of guts that make him a great coach. It was third-and-4 with less than a minute left. Brees to throw the ball, correct?

The future Hall of Famer wasn’t on the field. Payton sent in Swiss Army Knife Hill, who had fumbled in two previous games.

Hill took the snap, rolled right, and rolled straight into the end zone. The PAT by Will Lutz tied the game at 27.

Watch: Justin Herbert hits Mike Williams for 64-yard touchdown

The Chargers’ Justin Herbert and Mike Williams combined for a 64-yard TD pass.

The Los Angeles Chargers’ offense had stalled. It faced a third-and-10 Monday at the Superdome with the game tied at 20-20. And Justin Herbert delivered in a big way.

The sixth overall pick out of Oregon connected with Mike Williams for a 64-yard touchdown play. How surprising was it? On the previous six drives for the Bolts, they had not gained 64 yards total.

Herbert victimized DB Patrick Robinson, who was caught looking as Williams raced by, caught the ball, and pranced into the end zone.

The score came after Los Angeles saw a 20-3 lead evaporate. Drew Brees connected with tight end Jared Cook on a long TD play to leave the score tied after Will Lutz’s PAT.

Watch: Chargers’ Nasir Adderley picks off Drew Brees

Nasir Adderley picked off Drew Brees to set up an LA Chargers TD

The Los Angeles Chargers’ Nasir Adderley comes from great DB genes. His grandfather, Herb, is a Pro Football Hall of Famer, a six-time NFL champion and three-time Super Bowl champion who had 48 interceptions as a pro.

Adderley showed off some of his ability against a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in Drew Brees Monday night against the Saints.

Adderley picked off Brees and returned it to within inches of the goal line, setting up Justin Herbert’s third TD pass of the first half that gave the Bolts a 20-3 lead.

Herbert found Hunter Henry for the score.

Watch: Justin Herbert delivers sweet TD strike to Keenan Allen

Justin Herbert showed off a strong arm against the New Orleans Saints.

Justin Herbert made a big-time play early in his Monday Night Football debut as the Los Angeles Chargers visited the New Orleans Saints.

Herbert rolled right and escaped pressure and delivered a strike to stellar wideout Keenan Allen for the 17-yard touchdown. The PAT failed so the lead remained at 6-0.

The TD play was set up by a 36-run from Justin Jackson, who is taking the place of star RB Austin Ekeler, who is on IR.

Both starting quarterbacks, Herbert and New Orleans’ Drew Brees were drafted by the Chargers. Herbert was a first-round pick in 2020. Brees was a second-rounder in 2001.

Have to wonder if this is the greatest amount of time quarterbacks that passed as drafted by the same faced each other.

Report: Michael Thomas got into it with Saints’ teammate

Is Michael Thomas still injured or did a practice squabble cost him his return this week?

Michael Thomas won’t be playing for the New Orleans Saints Monday against the Los Angeles Chargers. The reason is now questionable.

The great wideout has missed the last couple of games with a high ankle sprain. There was a perception he would return for the contest with the AFC West opponents.

He was declared out earlier Sunday and now ESPN’s Adam Schefter is bring into question whether the injury is the reason for Thomas’ absence,

Justin Herbert is on an astonishing Super Bowl MVP run

Justin Herbert has faced Super Bowl MVPs in his first two starts and that easily could become four.

The Los Angeles Chargers had to start Justin Herbert against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 when a doctor somehow punctured Tyrod Taylor’s lung.

The rookie from Oregon has done quite well for himself in two losses.

And an oddity is going to continue in Week 5 week should the sixth overall pick meet the New Orleans Saints Monday at the Superdome.

How about opening your career against three Super Bowl MVPs?

That is exactly what Herbert would have done should he face Drew Brees and the Saints.

He went up against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Week 3, an overtime loss.

In Week 4, all Herbert had to do was wage an arms war with the legendary G.O.A.T., Tom Brady.

And up next on the Chargers’ docket is Brees.

Believe it or not, the run could not end at three.

The Chargers play host to the New York Jets on Oct. 18, Week 6 if you are counting.

Sam Darnold is out this week as the Jets play host to the Arizona Cardinals.

And, yes, if Darnold is out for the game with the Bolts, the starting job would continue to go to Joe Flacco. You know, the MVP of XLVII for the Baltimore Ravens.

Report: Saints’ player tests positive for COVID-19

Saints RB Michael Burton has tested positive for COVID-19 per a report.

The COVID-19 news continues for the NFL and it continues to be bad. The latest came Saturday night when it was learned after the New Orleans Saints landed in Detroit a player had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The player who tested positive is reported to be fullback Michael Burton.

The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff in Detroit. However, the Saints are awaiting testing for seven players, including a re-test of Burton.

The news comes on a day when New England quarterback Cam Newton tested positive leading to the Patriots’ game with the Kansas City Chiefs being postponed. Also, the Tennessee Titans saw more players test positive with the number of people within the team and organization nearing 20.
