Rutgers football recruiting: Preston Carey pulls in his tenth offer

Preston Carey talks his most recent ACC offer.

Long Island freshman Preston Carey is turning into one of the top class of 2026 recruits in the nation. On Saturday, Carey pulled down his tenth offer, this time from a ranked ACC program.

Carey was on-hand to see No. 18 Syracuse beat No. 13 North Carolina State at the Carrier Dome. He is a 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive lineman from Long Island program St. Anthony’s.

The offer from Syracuse goes alongside Carey’s strong list of Power Five offers including the likes of Georgia and Michigan. This summer, Carey was offered by Rutgers football, one of his first Power Five offers.

Also on Saturday, Syracuse offered Long Island tight end Korey Duff, another player that Rutgers was in on early.

Carey tweeted about the offer on Saturday night following Syracuse’s win:

In late August, Carey spoke with RutgersWire about his upcoming freshman season:

โ€œI definitely want to produce for my team. I want to be I want to help my team win. I want to produce and help.

โ€œBut personally, you know, goal is to be a freshman All-American. I think Iโ€™m on track and also mainly like I said, Iโ€™m a very much team player. I mean, at the end of the day, I have my own goals and always work for myself, but Iโ€™m also a big team player. And I think that weโ€™re all going to come together and weโ€™re all going to have an impact on that state championship and Iโ€™ve always said that.โ€

They are toying around: Rutgers football is the first offers for Pennsylvania athlete Dominic Toy

Dominic Toy is offered by Rutgers football this week.

Rutgers football officially got involved this week with Dominic Toy, the Big Ten program becoming the first Power Five offer for the class of 2024 athlete. In fact, it was the first offer at any level for Toy, who is likely to see an uptick in his offers soon.

An edge/wide receiver out of Chester High School (Chester, PA), Toy is a wrecking ball no matter where he is asked to line up on the field. At 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, he has tremendous size and athleticism. Toy also plays basketball.

On offense, Toy has 22 catches for 385 yards with eight touchdowns. He has 16 total tackles including three sacks and a pass defended. It is tremendous production from the class of 2024 athlete.

The Clippers, under head coach LaDontay Bell, are off to a strong start with a 7-0 record. They beat Penn Wood 54-8 this weekend. It was only the second time this season that Chester has allowed points.

The defense under coordinator Sam Anthony has given up just 18 points this season across seven games.

On Tuesday evening, Toy tweeted about the offer from Rutgers.

On Saturday, Chester plays Chichester High School (Boothwyn, PA). The Eagles are 1-6 on the year.

Rutgers Greg Schiano talks recruiting: ‘Forever we’ll be a developmental program’

Greg Schiano discusses recruiting in an appearance on Thursday on WFAN.

For Rutgers football, this weekend’s game against Nebraska is a big one not just for potential bowl eligibility, but also for recruiting. Taking on a team like the Cornhuskers, a blueblood and a traditional power, is a measuring stick for Rutgers and their recruits.

A win over Nebraska (2-3, 1-1 Big Ten) and Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano would have a significant sign of progress to sell to recruits. Appearing on WFAN on Thursday, Schiano discussed how things are different in the Big Ten recruiting then during his first stint at Rutgers in the Big East.

Asked about recruiting in the Big Ten by former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, Schiano told WFAN that there is a difference for sure. But it still boils down to player development.

“I’ll tell you this. The big thing to me has always been like when we were here at the end, you know the last five or six years (during) my first go around here,” Schiano said.

“You’re never going to get all of them and that’s the thing that you can’t lose yourself in and you just got to make sure that the ones you get you love. You know what I love coaching these kids because there’s plenty of players around this area. We don’t only recruit this areaย  -we recruit down in Florida, we recruit in Ohio, in the Midwest because of our Big Tenpresence. So the big thing to me is you get the right players for Rutgers.

“And a lot of teams I mean, you see a lot of teams that are really pretty silly, right? They’re in the top 20 in recruiting and yet they’re not winning a lot of games. And you got to be really careful. You got to get the guys that fit your program. And that’s where we are right now. I think we got really really good young talented players. And you know, forever we’ll be a developmental program. That’s who we are.”

WFAN is the flagship station for Rutgers football. The Scarlet Knights host Nebraska on Friday night.

Live television coverage begins at 7:00 PM ET on FS1. During pregame, the Barstool College Football Show will be live outside SHI Stadium.

Rutgers basketball the latest to offer Darius Adams

Rutgers is the latest to offer class of 2025 shooting guard Darius Adams

Class of 2025 combo guard Darius Adams received an offer this week from Rutgers basketball. This latest offer is the second offer from a Power Five conference for Adams.

The Scarlet Knights are the first Big Ten program to offer Adams. The 6-foor-3, 150-pound guard from Manasquan high school (Manasquan, NJ) also holds offers from Syracuse, St. Johns, Seton Hall, and Fordham.

A four-star recruit according to 247Sports and the No. 1 prospect in New Jersey according to On3 Consensus, Adams averaged 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists this past season in high school. He projects as a strong three-point shooter and he continuesย to work on beating players off the dribble and handling the ball through pressure.

[lawrence-related id=19342]

Rutgers has shown steady improvement from their guards under the tutelage of head coach Steve Pikiell and by the time Adams is ready for college, there will be a need on the Scarlet Knights at guard. The New Jersey native would be a perfect fit for Rutgers.

Rutgers basketball extends offer to Darrion Sutton

Rutgers extended an offer to class of 2024 small forward Darrion Sutton

Class of 2024 small forward Darrion Sutton received an offer this week from Rutgers basketball. This is his first offer from a Power Five school.

The Scarlet Knights are the first program from the Big Ten to offer the high school junior. The ย 6-foot-7, 170-pound forward also received an offer from St. John’s from the Big East this week.

247Sports has Sutton as a strong three-star recruit, and the No. 3 recruit out of Missouri in his class. He comes in at No. 28 for small forwards in the class of 2024. Sutton currently plays prep ball for Gateway City Elite and is a native of O’Fallon, Missouri. The prospect took to twitter to announce his offer.

[lawrence-related id=19342]

Sutton does not currently have a ranking over at On3.com, but as his recruiting picks up so will his profile.

[lawrence-related id=19406]

For Gateway City Elite, Sutton averaged 13.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.1 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game last season as a sophomore. He has continued to improve and grow physically and should continue to make some noise on the recruiting trail during this season.

Rutgers women’s basketball lands class of 2023 commit

Rutgers women’s basketball lands 2023 commit in point guard Jillian Huerter

Rutgers women’s basketball season may not start until November, but the recruiting efforts don’t have an offseason. The Scarlet Knights landed a class of 2022 commit in the form of point guard Jillian Huerter.

The 2022 Shenendehowa High School grad took to social media to make her announcement, sharing her excitement to commit to the program. She is currently playing for the Kent prep school. Her recruiting profile took a small hit due to pandemic-impacted seasons, and she spent the early part of her senior season rehabbing from a torn meniscus. The Saratoga County native fills an immediate need for the Scarlet Knights as many of the guards from last season’s squad have either graduated or transferred.

Huerter is no stranger to high level basketball as her family is basketball royalty in Saratoga. Her father Tom and brother Tom Jr. both played Division I at Siena College, while her older sister is currently playing for Providence College heading into her sophomore season.

[lawrence-related id=19233]

Let’s not forget about older brother Kevin who is currently in the NBA, signed with the Sacramento Kings and previously played for the Atlanta Hawks.

Back in May, she spoke to local media about how life was growing up with so many high level basketball players:

โ€œWe had a lot of two on two games growing up. Now weโ€™ll probably do more shooting competitions but we keep the competitiveness up with other games. We play a lot of cards or just anything we can do to compete with each other.โ€

Rutgers women’s team struggled last season to a 11-20 record – a steep drop off from a strong 2020-2021 campaign where they finished 14-5. Under the guidance of new head coach, Coquese Washington, they are looking to rebuild the program into a Big Ten power. Washington’s history of winning in the Big Ten with Penn State should pair perfectly with someone with the acumen and basketball family such as Huerter.

Jason Duclona de-commits from Rutgers football

Class of 2023 defensive back Jason Duclona de-committed from Rutgers on Monday

Rutgers lost a member of the 2023 recruiting class on Monday as defensive back Jason Duclona de-committed from the program. His announcement comes on the heels of an unofficial visit to UCF.

Duclona announced his decision via social media, thanking Rutgers and head coach Greg Schiano for the original offer as well as thanking “Scarlet Nation” for showing him love from the very beginning. The Estero/Florida product is a three-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite and is listed as an athlete in their rankings as he was successful on both sides of the ball in high school. Rivals has him ranked as a three-star recruit as well and a top 100 prospect among cornerbacks.

[lawrence-related id=19264]

The all-around player explained why he de-committed after just committing back in June when speaking with SBLive Florida:

I just thought my commitment was rushed. I need to find a place 100 percent for me, and Rutgers didn’t feel 100 percent.

After making his de-commitment official, Duclona announced offers from UCF and Mississippi State that he received while he was committed to Rutgers.
