Rutgers lacrosse senior Ross Scott named honorable mention All-American

Ross Scott of Rutgers lacrosse named All-American.

With the 2024 lacrosse seasonΒ in the books, Ross Scott added to his trophy case on Thursday. The Rutgers lacrosse captain received Honorable Mention All-American honors. He was also a First Team All-Big Ten selection, earning his highest career all-conference honors.Β 

In his final season in Piscataway, Scott was a scoring machine. The West Linn High School product scored 20 goals and dished out 25 assists. He finished the season with 45 points, the second-highest total of his Rutgers career. In clutch situations, Scott was a reliable option, as he added two game-winning goals to his highlight reel.Β 

As Scott prepares for his pro career, he will forever be part of Rutgers history. The talented attacker finished his college career with 109 goals and 73 assists for 182 points in 66 games. His 52 starts are the 11th most in program history.Β

His next stop will be with the Carolina Chaos after being drafted in the third round of the 2024 PLL Draft. However, Scott will not be alone, as Shane Knobloch was also drafted by the Chaos. Just like they did at Rutgers, Knobloch, and Scott will be looking to be a dangerous duo in the pros.Β

If they can do that, then Thursday won’t be the last time Scott adds to his impressive list of accomplishments.Β 

Shane Knobloch becomes first Rutgers player to win Lt. Donald MacLaughlin Jr. Award

On Thursday morning, Rutgers‘ Shane Knobloch was recognized by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) for his stellar season.

The Rutgers star became the first player in program history to win the Lt. Donald MacLaughlin Jr. Outstanding Midfielder of the Year Award. It is one of the five major awards given out by the USILA. He is the first Rutgers player to win one of the accolades since Reid Jackson in 1994.

While Knobloch’s name is now forever etched in the record books, it is not the only award he added to his trophy case. The talented midfielder also earned First Team All-American honors, becoming just the second four-time All-American in program history, joining Tom Sweeney.Β

In 14 games during the 2024 campaign, Knobloch was a scoring machine. He added 29 goals to his resume while dishing out 11 assists. The Moorestown High School product finished the season with 40 points, the second-highest total of his career.Β

Although Rutgers fans have become used to Knobloch’s excellence, his most recent accomplishments provide a reminder of just how good he is. Since making his collegiate debut in 2021, Knobloch was a key piece of Rutgers offense and model of consistency. That has helped him become the best at his position.Β 

With his college career in the books, Knobloch will now turn his attention to his pro career with the Carolina Chaos. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2024 PLL Draft.

Rutgers lacrosse star Cassidy Spilis named First Team All-American by ILWomen

Rutgers lacrosse star Cassidy Spilis gets another national honor.

For the fourth straight year, Β Rutgers lacrosse star Cassidy Spilis was honored by ILWomen on Friday. The talented midfielder was named First Team All-American. She also earned second-team accolades in 2022 and honorable mention recognition in 2021 and 2023 from ILWomen. Β Her latest achievement comes following a stellar 2024 campaign.

In 18 games, Spilis scored 74 goals while dishing out five assists. The Rutgers star also led the Big Ten in goals while being a human highlight reel every time she stepped on the field. Her impressive season didn’t stop there, as Spilis finished the season second in the Big Ten in goals per game (4.11), third in caused turnovers per game (2.00), and draw controls per game (5.44).

While Spilis put together a career year, she also rewrote the record books. The Seneca High School product became Rutgers all-time leader in points scored with 281. She also set the school record for career draw controls (313) and broke her own single-season record with 74 goals.

Her latest accolade also represents how well Rutgers women’s lacrosse is regarded. This is the third straight season the program has had at least one student-athlete earn first-team laurels by at least one publication under head coach Melissa Lehman.

As Spilis prepares for life after Rutgers, she leaves behind an impressive legacy that includes countless unforgettable moments. Her latest award is a reminder of the impact she made.

Rutgers lacrosse standout Shane Knobloch gets All-American status.

With the 2024 lacrosse season over, USA Lacrosse Magazine released its list of the top players in Division I on Thursday. Rutgers was well represented, as Shane Knobloch was named a First Team All-American and ranked among the top three players at his position.

In his final season at Rutgers, Knobloch continued to be a human highlight reel. He added 29 goals and 11 assists to his resume in 14 games. For just the second time in his career and the first time since the 2022 campaign, Knobloch reached the 40-point mark. As Rutgers posted a 7-7 record, he was critical to their success. With his latest accomplishment, the New Jersey native also made history.

On Thursday, Knobloch became the second four-time All-American in program history. He joined Tom Sweeney, who earned All-American honors each year from 1977 to 1980.

While Kbobloch is preparing to begin his PLL career with the Carolina Chaos, he is turning the page on a member college career. In 60 games for Rutgers, he scored 98 goals and recorded 49 assists.Β During his time atΒ Rutgers, Knobloch was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2021 and an All-American in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

His latest achievementΒ provided a reminder of how good he was at Rutgers and why he will be missed next year at Piscataway.

Two Rutgers lacrosse players taken in PLL Draft

Rutgers lacrosse has two taken in the PLL Draft.

On Tuesday night, two members of Rutgers men’s lacrosse, Shane Knobloch and Ross Scott, were selected in the PLL Draft.

The Rutgers duo of Knobloch and Scott will be heading to Charlotte after being selected by the Carolina Chaos.Β 

After an unforgettable career at Rutgers, Knobloch made history in the draft. He was drafted fourth overall, becoming the highest-ever PLL draft pick out of Rutgers since the league started. He is the first Rutgers player to be taken in the first round since Connor Kirst was the No. 7 overall pick Β in 2021.

While Knobloch’s Chaos debut is still weeks away, excitement is already building for his future. His new head coach, Andy Towers, made that clear when he met with the media.

“We couldn’t be happier that Shane was available,” Towers told Rutgers Athletics. “He continued to impress and does not have a weakness. He’s crafty and can make defenses pay. He couldn’t be a better teammate. He’s mentally tough. He’s hyper competitive and physically tough.”

As Knobloch adjusts to a new team, he will have a familiar face to lean on in Scott. The Chaos selected Scott in the fourth round after he scored 109 goals in 66 games during his college career. He finished his Rutgers career ranked 11th all-time in school history in points and 12th in goals. His ability to make an impact offensively is one of the reasons the Chaos targeted him.Β

After outstanding season with Rutgers lacrosse, Cardin Stoller gets Big Ten honor

Cardin Stoller gets Big Ten honors for Rutgers lacrosse.

For Cardin Stoller, the 2024 lacrosse season has been full of unforgettable moments. In fact, the Rutgers men’s lacrosse standout was producing big performances on a weekly basis in the Big Ten.

Stoller, who is from Maryland, was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year this week. He is the third Rutgers player to win the award since the school joined the Big Ten in 2015. Shane Knobloch (2015) and Adam Charalambides (2016) are the only other players in school history on that list.

The talented Rutgers goalkeeper was a four-time freshman of the week winner while helping the Scarlet Knights post a 7-6 record. On Wednesday, he continued to add to his resume.

During his sophomore campaign, Stoller was tremendous in net, posting a 53.8 save percentage and 10.98 goals against average. He finished the 2024 campaign third in the Big Ten in saves per game and save percentage. Stoller also earned national attention due to his play.Β

On March 16, Stollar made 19 saves in a 10-9 Rutgers win against UMass. Due to his performance, USA Lacrosse Magazine named Stollar the National Player of the Week. He also recorded 19 saves in a 9-7 win at No. 15 Michigan on April 7.

While his college career is just starting, Stoller showed plenty of promise in his first year in Piscataway. That has created excitement for what the future holds as postseason play begins. Regardless of what happens in the Big Ten tournament, Rutgers has a bright future with Stoller in net.Β 

Rutgers lacrosse remains top 20 following weekend loss

Rutgers men’s lacrosse remains nationally ranked in this week’s Inside Lacrosse rankings.

A weekend loss didn’t knock Rutgers men’s lacrosse out of the rankings this week with the Scarlet Knights still a top 20 program.

The top-20 ranking for Rutgers makes them one of six teams from the Big Ten in this week’s poll.

Rutgers checks in at No. 19, dropping one spot in the Inside Lacrosse Division I Men’s Lacrosse Poll. Rutgers lost at home on Sunday to No. 8 Johns Hopkins.

The Scarlet Knights are now 6-3 (0-1 Big Ten). They face Ohio State on Saturday at SHI Stadium.

All three of Rutgers’ losses this year have come against ranked opponents (No. 6 Army, No. 14 Princeton and now on Sunday against a top-10 Johns Hopkins).

A win this weekend against an Ohio State program that was ranked earlier this season would be a big plus for Rutgers before they face a grueling stretch of games to close out their season.

All three of the final opponents for Rutgers this season are ranked.

This includes No. 4 Penn State, the top-ranked team from the Big Ten in this week’s rankings.

Rutgers men’s lacrosse moves up one spot following weekend win over UMass

Rutgers men’s lacrosse moves up in the rankings following a weekend win over UMass.

Saturday’s 10-9 win over UMass sees Rutgers wrestling move up one spot in this week’s national rankings.

The weekend game took place at a neutral site (Farmingdale, New York) and gives Rutgers (6-2) some momentum heading into the Big TenΒ  schedule.

With the win, Rutgers moved up one spot and is now No. 18 in the nation in the Inside Lacrosse Division I Media Poll. They are 6-2 and begin Big Ten action this weekend when they host No. 11 Johns Hopkins.

It gets real now for Rutgers, who see four of their next five games against ranked opponents. Two of those are against top 10 opposition (at No. 8 Maryland and against No. 7 Penn State).

Those are the final two matches of the season for Rutgers.

Army remained the top team in the nation in the Inside Lacrosse rankings.

Rutgers’ two losses this season came against No. 1 Army and No. 14 Princeton.

Last week, following their home loss to Princeton, Rutgers dropped several spots in the poll. They were also ranked No. 19 nationally last week in the USILA Coaches Poll in addition to the Inside Lacrosse ranking.

 

Rutgers men’s lacrosse got a big win on Saturday over Hofstra

Rutgers men’s lacrosse got another win on Saturday.

It is two in a row for Rutgers men’s lacrosse, with the Scarlet Knights putting together a solid performance with a 13-8 win over Hofstra.

The wet and soggy win lifts Rutgers to 4-1 (0-0 Big Ten), giving them consecutive wins after falling to Army two weeks ago. Last week, they rolled over Loyola (Maryland), Β a result that saw them move up one spot to No. 16Β  in the USILA Coaches Poll.

After a tight first quarter where Rutgers led 4-3, the floodgates opened in the second quarter. The Scarlet Knights scored five straight goals, taking a 10-4 lead into halftime.

Freshman attacker Colin Kurdyla led Rutgers with three goals, continuing his strong start to the season. Rutgers got two goals apiece from junior attacker Dante Kulas and senior attacker Ross Scott.

 

Scott led Rutgers with three assists.

The Scarlet Knights held a 46:33 edge in shots and 25:19 in shots on goal. Cardin Stoller, a redshirt freshman, had 11 saves in the win.

Next up for Rutgers is a Tuesday home match-up at SHI Stadium against Detroit Mercy. They then host a ranked Princeton on Sunday to close out their non-conference schedule.

All five of Rutgers’ Big Ten opponents are currently ranked.

Playing a tough schedule last year, Hofstra finished 2023 with a 5-9 record.

Following a 2-0 start, Rutgers women’s lax is now ranked

Rutgers women’s lacrosse is ranked this week.

Rutgers women’s lacrosse has two wins in as many games to start the season, leading the Scarlet Knights to be nationally ranked. They are one of six Big Ten teams ranked this week.

In this week’s Inside Lacrosse/IWLCA Coaches Poll, Rutgers went from unranked to No. 24 nationally. It is significant news from Rutgers, after they started the season with a 20-10 win over Manhattan that was followed by a convincing win at Georgetown this past weekend.

They will look to continue their strong start to the season on Wednesday against Monmouth before hosting Army on Saturday. Last year. Army was the first loss of the season for the Scarlet Knights.

It was an up-and-down 2023 for Rutgers as they finished the season 8-9, beating John Hopkins in the Big Ten Tournament before losing to Maryland in the semifinals. They started last season 3-1.

Three Big Ten programs are ranked in the top six this week, led by No. 4 Northwestern followed by Maryland and then Michigan.
