Commanders upset Lions; Eagles can host NFC Championship game with win over Rams

Commanders upset win over the Lions puts Eagles in position to host the NFC Championship game with a win over the Rams on Sunday

The conference championship game could have an NFC East feel after the No. 6 seed Washington Commanders (12-5) defeated the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions (15-2) 45-31 at Ford Field on Saturday night. This puts Philadelphia in a position to host their division rivals.

Washington’s 45 points were the most in a playoff game in franchise history.

The Eagles have to handle their business, but a win over the Rams (10-7) would see the Commanders travel to Philadelphia next Sunday afternoon for a shot to battle the AFC winner in the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

Detroit quarterback Jared Goff threw three interceptions and was uneven all night. He went 23-40 passing for 313 yards (7.8 avg), one touchdown, and a 59.7 quarterback rating. The Lions’ running game was dynamic but underused, as Jahmyr Gibbs had 14 carries for 105 yards (7.5 avg) and two rushing touchdowns.

Eagles blast NWA’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’ at practice ahead of divisional round game vs. Rams

The Eagles have won two straight over the Rams in Los Angeles, but they’ll host Sean McVay’s squad at Lincoln Financial Field in the NFC Divisional Round game. With Philadelphia loose and preparing for the contest at the Linc, the Eagles’ playlist included NWA’s smash hit, Straight Outta Compton. In the Week 12 win on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, Saquon Barkley exploded for a career-high 255 rushing yards as Philadelphia put the league on notice with a 37-20 win at SoFi Stadium on Sunday. After allowing the Rams to rack up over 100 yards in the first quarter, the Eagles held the Rams to just four net yards in the second quarter and 290 total yards overall as Sean McVay’s explosive offense was grounded outside several big plays. The Rams and Vikings were initially supposed to play at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. However, due to the wildfires in Southern California, the league relocated the game to State Farm Stadium in Arizona.

Should Eagles rest starters in Week 18 ahead of NFL playoffs? What Nick Sirianni said

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni says he’s “Still not there”, when asked about playing or resting his starters in Week 18 against the Giants

The Eagles completed a season sweep and captured the NFC East with a 41-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field. The win gives Philadelphia the No. 2 seed and no shot at the No. 1 seed after the Vikings’ 27-25 victory over the Packers on Sunday afternoon.

Minnesota (14-2) will face Detroit (13-2) in Week 17 for the NFC North and a first-round bye.

The Eagles (2 seed) join the Chiefs (1), Bills (2), and Texans (4) as teams with nothing to gain or lose in Week 18.

The question now becomes, what will head coach Nick Sirianni and the team decide on potential rest and the pursuit of an NFL record? That scenario gives Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni something to ponder as he decides on Saquon Barkley chasing Eric Dickerson.

When asked about it on Monday, Philadelphia’s head coach was clearly still pondering the decision.

After gaining 167 yards on the ground against Dallas in Week 17, Barkley sits 101 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards set in 1984. Barkley would set the record, and it would be associated with Philadelphia and Jeffrey Lurie’s franchise for years to come, if not decades.

Still, the ultimate goal is the Super Bowl, and a Week 18 bye week for Eagles starters from a gameplay perspective could allow this team to be rested and fresh. Washington or Green Bay are likely headed to Lincoln Financial Field.

Eagles are officially locked into the No. 2 seed after Vikings 27-25 win over Packers

Eagles are officially locked into the No. 2 seed after Vikings 27-25 win over Packers

On Sunday, the Eagles completed a season sweep and captured the NFC East with a 41-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field.

The win gives Nick Sirianni’s team the No. 2 seed and no shot at the No. 1 seed after the Vikings’ 27-25 victory over the Packers on Sunday afternoon.

Minnesota (14-2) will face Detroit (13-2) in Week 17 for the NFC North and a first-round bye.

That scenario gives Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni something to ponder as he decides on Saquon Barkley chasing Eric Dickerson.

Playing without quarterback Jalen Hurts, Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee tossed touchdown passes as the Eagles outscored the Cowboys 75-13 in two regular-season meetings this season.

In the win, records were broken.

Barkley carried the football 31 times for 167 yards (5.4 avg), eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark, and was 101 yards shy of Eric Dickerson’s 2,105 yards, set in 1984.

2 ways the Eagles can clinch the NFC East in Week 17

Eagles can clinch the NFC East division with a win over the Cowboys or a Commanders loss in Week 17

The Eagles had their ten-game winning streak snapped with a 36-33 loss to the Commanders in Week 16, but Philadelphia still controls its own destiny for the division and the No. 2 overall seed.

Philadelphia has clinched a playoff berth and now wants to wrap up the division.

The NFL released official clinching scenarios for each team in Week 17, and the Eagles have two options.

  1. PHI win or tie
  2. WAS loss or tie

Philadelphia will host Dallas at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, while Washington will host Atlanta on NBC’s Sunday night football. The Falcons will have plenty to play for in Michael Penix’s second start.

An Atlanta win would wrap up the NFC South for Raheem Morris, and the Eagles would win the division regardless of what happens earlier in the day.
