Cowboys Weekend News: Trading Cooper? Micah the wrestler, Jerry the sidestepper

Parsons to WrestleMania, a trade-filled mock draft and free agency decisions to come for the Cowboys receiving weapons in Saturday’s news. | From @CDBurnett7

Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz is an interesting conversation for free agency. Teams like the Chargers are perfect fits but Dallas could bite the bullet and use the franchise tag to keep him in town. Next to the breakout tight end, things seem to be changing at the wide receiver position. The Cowboys could look to sign a receiver like Jamison Crowder or go through the draft. Imagine Dallas trading Amari Cooper or another star ahead of the 2022 draft.

Linebacker Micah Parsons is a star on the field but he credits pregame hype from a historic boxer and now will appear at WrestleMania after an invite from Randy Orton. The legend continues to grow for the Cowboys star.

This is the Cowboys News and Notes, weekend edition.

Cowboys News: Senior Bowl watch list, coaching addition, former players get 2nd chance

The looming wide receiver situation, Cowboys turned USFL players and offseason changes necessary for Dallas to break the recent trend. All in the latest news roundup from @CDBurnett7

Just a few days away from the 2022 NFL scouting combine, what big names should Cowboys fans be eyeing? The list includes a pair of national champions who could jumpstart the defense.

Beyond the draft, Dallas needs to make some changes to improve in the offseason and break the trend of boring free agency pickups from the Joneses. Opening up the checkbook like the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams could lead to another ring for Jerry Jones.

Former Cowboys linebacker Joe Bowden has joined the staff and he will work with a young group that includes Micah Parsons, who lobbied for offensive snaps during the 2021 season, could he see any in 2022?

With the USFL’s draft concluded, several former Dallas players got a second chance in pro football and it could be a gateway back to the NFL, maybe even the Cowboys. Here’s a look at the latest news and notes.

Cowboys News: Change of scenery for Connor Williams? Nakobe Dean at 24?

Potential picks for the Cowboys, a decision at tight end and linebacker, and who Dallas could keep in town with the franchise tag in 2022. | From @Cdburnett7 and @ToddBrock24f7

Looking toward the draft, guru Daniel Jeremiah has the Cowboys taking Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean to create a strong and blistering-fast tandem with Micah Parsons. But there are other routes taken in other mocks; one has Dallas going offensive line with a popular Boston College prospect.

Free agency is almost upon us. Could Jayron Kearse return after a breakout season to be reunited with Dan Quinn? Connor Williams could hit the market, too; one outlet says the offensive lineman might just find greener grass somewhere other than Dallas. Other names to watch are linebacker Leighton Vander Esch and tight end Dalton Schultz. Could Schultz get the franchise tag instead? And what about reworking some pricey contracts to help pay some of those free agents? Another outlet did some creative math and suddenly found $70 million of new cap space.

A couple Cowboys alums are in the news, too. A franchise legend is on the verge of switching to a brand-new team in primetime, and a onetime rising-star coach is getting his next big break in the Big Easy.

This is Wednesday’s Cowboys News and Notes.

Cowboys News: Free-agent matchmaking, Jayron Kearse talks continuity

Jayron Kearse knows getting Dan Quinn back for a second year will be huge for the Cowboys defense; the same could be said for him. | From @ToddBrock24f7

It’s that time of the offseason when everyone wants to play matchmaker. Which free agents would be good fits for which new teams? Which former player would benefit from a reunion with his old club? On the day the franchise tag window opened, there were plenty of present and former Cowboys being talked about in league circles.

In this edition of News and Notes, we look at where several high-profile Cowboys might end up, while one of them is speaking publicly about the pluses of staying put. The scouting combine’s new rules has a huge contingent of prospects threatening to skip, plus who would replace Michael Gallup in Dallas? | From @ToddBrock24f7

The NFL’s scouting combine has turned into a massive event over the years, satisfying many fans’ thirst for offseason football action. But as the league looks to exercise more control over the proceedings, their demands may end up squeezing the life out of this year’s slate of drills and workouts. New rules put in place for the upcoming combine are meeting with stiff resistance; a large contingent of players and agents are now threatening to boycott the event entirely and focus instead on college pro days. Expect the fight to get louder and uglier as the combine dates approach.

Also in the news, we’re scouring the college ranks to learn more about a small-school wideout with big skills and an ACC star who could nevertheless fall in the first round. It’s a true sampler platter of news items to close out a momentous week in Dallas. While the NFL officially announced that it would not be pursuing the Rich Dalrymple scandal further, there will no doubt be some degree of lingering fallout for the organization in the weeks and months to come, even if only from fans who are angry about the details of the alleged incidents, the way the victims were hushed, and how the team seemingly swept its internal investigation under the rug.

All that, plus a look at how The Star in Frisco changed NFL facilities… and even Texas state law. It’s all up in the News and Notes.

Michael Gallup is recovering well after surgery, Jayron Kearse is most improved, and how secure is Greg Zuerlein’s job as Cowboys kicker? | From @ToddBrock24f7

Cowboys News: Dalrymple scandal has some calling for change of ownership

A voyeurism scandal with a former Cowboys executive and Jerry Jones is now in the spotlight while Dallas has some big FA decisions to make. | From @CDBurnett7

While the New York Giants and Washington Football Team, now Commanders, were dealing with organizational scandals over the last month or more, the Cowboys had managed to stay above the ugly news fray. That all changed in a hurry on Wednesday.

Former Dallas executive Rich Dalrymple has been accused of voyeurism with the Cowboys cheerleaders and Charlotte Jones Anderson, with reports from ESPN that Jerry Jones paid off the cheerleaders with a multimillion dollar settlement to stay quiet on the situation.

In regards to football, there are key free agents like defensive end Randy Gregory for Dallas to keep in town while the likes of defensive end Demarcus Lawrence and wide receiver Amari Cooper’s future could be in doubt as cap issues stare down the Cowboys if they don’t restructure contracts.
