The Daytona 500 weather forecast looks very, very bad

The 2024 Daytona 500 is scheduled for Sunday…. but it may not stop raining until Monday.

[UPDATE]: NASCAR has postponed both the United Rentals 300 and the Daytona 500 to Monday. The United Rentals 300 will start at 11 a.m. ET on FS1, and the Daytona 500 will start at 4:30 p.m. on FOX.

NASCAR Cup Series cars were scheduled to be on track Saturday morning for the final practice session ahead of Sunday’s Daytona 500, ahead of the Xfinity Series United Rentals 300, but persistent rain in the forecast is threatening to wreak havoc on the weekend schedule.

NASCAR moved up the ARCA race to Friday night, a very wise move, as the forecast is calling for more than 24 consecutive hours of rain at Daytona International Speedway.

According to Weather.com, there’s a mere 78 percent chance of rain when practice was originally scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET. From there, the chance of rain every hour doesn’t dip below the 80 percent mark until 8:00 p.m. ET on Sunday. By 2 a.m. ET Monday morning, Daytona will still have above a 50 percent chance of rain.

What does that mean for the Daytona 500 and the Xfinity Series? It’s looking incredibly unlikely that we will see cars on track at all this weekend, leading to a potential Monday double-header. Given that it would take track crews multiple hours to dry the track, there is a negligible chance for any sort of a racing window, let alone one that would allow either race to reach halfway.

It will still be raining in Daytona on Monday morning, but rain is expected to taper off by the afternoon.

In what would be an absolute worst-case scenario, the forecast calls for a perfectly sunny Tuesday. Let’s hope we’re not waiting until then for the green flag to fly.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveals his 2024 NASCAR playoff picks and championship prediction

Here’s who Dale Earnhardt Jr. is picking to win the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series championship.

A new NASCAR season officially began on Wednesday night with qualifying for the Daytona 500, as Joey Logano secured the pole position and Michael McDowell locked in a front-row spot. Cars will return to the track on Thursday night for the Duels, where the remainder of the starting positions will be determined for Sunday’s must-watch race.

We’re 36 races away from crowning a champion in Phoenix, but Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared his early playoff predictions on his podcast, the Dale Jr. Download. Dale Jr. has a shocker among his predictions, as a three-time race winner in 2023 is not in his top 16.

So who did Dale Jr. pick? He’s backing Ryan Blaney to win back-to-back titles – something that has never occurred in the era of the championship four – but also believes Christopher Bell has a good chance to win his first title. Dale Jr. explained that either Blaney or Bell will win the championship, but that he expects Bell could have some bad luck that keeps him out of the championship race.

Dale Jr. also expects Corey LaJoie to win a regular-season race in 2024, locking himself into the playoffs, which will knock Chris Buescher out of the top 16.

Dale Jr’s championship four:

1. Ryan Blaney
2. Denny Hamlin
3. Kyle Larson
4. Joey Logano

Round of 8

5. William Byron
6. Martin Truex Jr.
7. Tyler Reddick
8. Chase Elliott

Round of 12

9. Ty Gibbs
10. Alex Bowman
11. Ross Chastain
12. Christopher Bell

Round of 16

13. Brad Keselowski
14. Kyle Busch
15. Bubba Wallace
16. Corey LaJoie

Lewis Hamilton may reportedly join Ferrari in 2025, and F1 fans are stunned

What an absolute shock for F1 fans if these reports are true.

WHOA.

If you thought Lewis Hamilton would spend the rest of his storied F1 career with Mercedes — the team he’s been with since 2013, with whom he’s won six drivers’ world championships — you may be shocked to find out that’s reportedly not the case.

Per multiple reports on Thursday morning, Hamilton will leave the team for Ferrari to team up with Charles Leclerc in 2025, meaning Carlos Sainz will be out. What’s wilder is that Hamilton signed a new deal with Mercedes last summer, but the reports say that perhaps there was an exit clause in there.

Fans were absolutely stunned by the reports:

Tony Stewart is taking over his wife Leah Pruett’s Top Fuel car for a beautiful reason

There’s a good reason for this.

Tony Stewart and NHRA racer Leah Pruett had an announcement on Thursday that might surprise people: He’s taking over her Top Fuel car driven by his wife for 2024.

The reason? The couple are looking into starting a family.

Per a post from Stewart on X (formerly Twitter): “When your wife wants to try to start a family & wants you to drive her car, what are you going to say? I’m proud of [Pruett] & excited we’re going to focus on starting a family in 2024. I’m humbled Leah & Neal Strausbaugh felt I was the driver to fill in for her.”

Pruett also released a statement: “This decision did not happen overnight, and I feel that stepping out of the seat right now is what’s best for myself and Tony to start a family. This has been one of the most difficult decisions to make because of what we have collectively created at TSR, a highly successful program and enjoyable operation. I’m excited about how competitive this team is, and to be able to have Tony compete in a very safe, vetted, well-performing car with an established team.”

18 dazzling photos of NASCAR drivers on the red carpet for the NASCAR Awards

Drivers were looking stylish at the NASCAR Awards

While the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season officially came to a close in early November with the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, the sport celebrated the year with its annual NASCAR Awards in Nashville on Thursday night.

The event honored many in the sport, including 2023 champion Ryan Blaney, who won his first Cup title by edging out fellow championship contenders Kyle Larson, William Byron and Christopher Bell. Also at the awards ceremony, Ty Gibbs was named Rookie of the Year, and Chase Elliott won the Most Popular Driver Award for the sixth consecutive season, as he continues chasing his father, Bill Elliott, with 16 Most Popular Driver Awards.

It’s not often we see NASCAR drivers looking so fancy, so here’s a glimpse from the red carpet in Nashville.

IndyCar’s Josef Newgarden seemingly got a tattoo of NASCAR champ Ryan Blaney’s bearded face

Josef Newgarden appears to be a man of his word with his new ink celebrating NASCAR champ Ryan Blaney.

Well, it looks like Josef Newgarden is a man of his word because it appears he’s got some new ink after making a little wager.

The two-time IndyCar Series champ and reigning Indianapolis 500 winner is a big supporter of his Team Penske teammates on the NASCAR side, so when Ryan Blaney remained in contention for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series championship, Newgarden made a deal. He texted Blaney: “If you win this championship, I’m getting your face tattooed on my thigh.”

“Oh let’s [expletive] GO,” Blaney replied.

Well, not long after that, the No. 12 Team Penske driver won his first NASCAR championship. And afterward, Blaney told For The Win he was eager to see if Newgarden would follow through, hoping for a full-beard portrait and all.

And now, it appears that Newgarden did, in fact, get Blaney’s face and the NASCAR trophy tattooed on his leg. (It could be temporary, but we’re hoping it’s not.)

Blaney previously explained that the tattoo had to be of him with a full beard, even though he’s looking mostly clean-shaven now:

“Full beard. We won the championship, full beard, full mustache. I want my face. I sent him a picture. I sent him a reference photo. I was like, “How about this to base it off of?” But yeah, you gotta go full beard. 1800s U.S. president is what he called me, so that’s what I want.”

That’s exactly what he got.

1,000 drones lighting up the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix is the trippiest thing you’ll see all day

All is not lost. At least ONE thing went right during the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix may have been a hot mess express, but this new clip might be the best thing you’ll see all day.

Let’s face it: not a whole lot went right for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. There were tire issues that nobody thought of beforehand, bad viewing times and a drain cover that nearly unraveled the whole thing — utter chaos.

But not everything was a total dumpster fire. In a newly released behind-the-scenes video, Preston Ward, the chief pilot for Sky Elements Drone Shows, shows viewers how his company lit up the Vegas night sky during the race.

Ward enlisted the help of 1,000 drones to make some pretty sweet entertainment, including a roulette wheel.

Max Verstappen sang like Elvis after F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix win: ‘VIVA LAS VEGAS!’

Max Verstappen sang like Elvis, which was so Vegas.

Of course Max Verstappen won the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, as he’s done for most of the 2023 Formula 1 season (that’s not me ripping the Red Bull driver! He’s having an all-time dominant season for any athlete!).

And after he crossed the finish line at a race that was star-studded — but also came with some issues — Verstappen got on his radio to hear the congrats from the Red Bull team. It was in that moment captured as always by the broadcast that Verstappen pulled an Elvis Presley and sang Viva Las Vegas.

A Vegas ending to a very Vegas weekend:
