MMA Junkie Radio #3019: UFC 246 reaction, talking all things Conor McGregor and more

Hosts “Gorgeous” George and “Goze” dissect the results of UFC 246 from all angles, including what could be next for Conor McGregor.

Monday’s edition of MMA Junkie Radio with hosts “Gorgeous” George and “Goze” is here!

On Episode No. 3,019 of the podcast, the fellas look unpack all things UFC 246, starting with [autotag]Conor McGregor[/autotag]’s triumphant return to the cage with a 40-second TKO win over [autotag]Donald Cerrone[/autotag].

  • McGregor vs. Cerrone played out even better than the UFC could’ve expected, with “The Notorious” putting on a brilliant performance in dismantling “Cowboy” so quickly. The result, of course, sets up a world of opportunities for McGregor, but the two main options seem to be either [autotag]Khabib Nurmagomedov[/autotag] (which UFC president Dana White wants) or Jorge Masvidal (which most fans seem to want). So what’s next?
  • McGregor already had announced 2020 would be his “season,” with the plan for him to fight three or four times this year. Timing would seem to be a big factor, and with Nurmagomedov set to defend his lightweight title vs. Tony Ferguson in April at UFC 249, when do you think McGregor’s next fight will be booked?
  • [autotag]Floyd Mayweather[/autotag] inserted himself into the UFC 246 post-fight conversation with a pair of Instagram posts. There was also the fact that White revealed he and Mayweather were in communication throughout the event. Something is going to happen between Mayweather and the UFC, but what? And how does that play into everything with McGregor?
  • As for Cerrone, it was a rough outcome, which incurred shaming from ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith. Smith’s terrible take aside, what’s next for the nearly 37-year-old “Cowboy”? Should he give retirement consideration?
  • The UFC gave out not one, not two, but five “Performance of the Night” bonuses  McGregor, [autotag]Aleksei Oleinik[/autotag], [autotag]Brian Kelleher[/autotag], [autotag]Diego Ferreira[/autotag], and [autotag]Drew Dober[/autotag]. No $50,000, unfortunately, for Roxanne Modafferi after her huge upset win over Maycee Barber. Did the bonuses go to the right people?

MMA Junkie Radio #3012: Reaction to Bellator Hawaii doubleheader, UFC on ESPN+ 23

Hosts “Gorgeous” George and “Goze” unpack a trifecta of major MMA events and react to the latest news and notes.

Monday’s edition of MMA Junkie Radio with hosts “Gorgeous” George and “Goze” is here!

On Episode No. 3,012 of the podcast, the guys unpack a trifecta of major events from the weekend, with Bellator 235 and 236 in Honolulu, as well as UFC on ESPN+ 23 in Busan, South Korea. The guys also react to the latest news and notes.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • The weekend got off to a bad start for Bellator, with former UFC heavyweight champion [autotag]Josh Barnett[/autotag] forced to withdraw hours before the Bellator 235 headliner because of illness. When and where should Barnett vs. Ronny Markes take place now?
  • At UFC on ESPN+ 23, [autotag]Chan Sung Jung[/autotag] took care of business in a big way with a first-round TKO finish of ex-lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Did “The Korean Zombie” do enough to shake up plans of title rematch between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway? Are you warm to the idea of a No. 1 contender fight against [autotag]Zabit Magomedsharipov[/autotag]?
  • At Bellator 236, [autotag]Ilima-Lei Macfarlane[/autotag] retained her flyweight title with a dominant performance against Kate Jackson, and [autotag]A.J. McKee[/autotag] advanced to the semifinals of the featherweight grand prix with a submission of Derek Campos. The guys weigh in on both outcomes and more from the card.
  • [autotag]Kevin Lee[/autotag] gave an endorsement speech of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at a rally in Las Vegas. Pretty cool?
  • [autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag], the Glory Kickboxing middleweight champion better known as the guy who knocked out Israel Adesanya, wants to fight MMA. Are you into it?
  • [autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag] has his next fight lined up for Jan. 25 at Bellator 238. Is this guy a star for the promotion?
  • It sure does seem like [autotag]Jorge Masvidal[/autotag] would rather fight [autotag]Conor McGregor[/autotag] instead of receive a welterweight title shot vs. Kamaru Usman. Does this make sense?
  • Former Bellator champion [autotag]Rory MacDonald[/autotag] left the promotion to sign with PFL. Good or bad move for him?

MMA Junkie Radio #3011: Is Rory MacDonald to PFL a big deal? Bellator Hawaii preview

Hosts “Gorgeous” George and “Goze” react to the latest news and notes in MMA, as well as look ahead to Bellator’s doubleheader in Hawaii.

Thursday’s edition of MMA Junkie Radio with hosts “Gorgeous” George and “Goze” is here!

On Episode No. 3,011 of the podcast, the guys react to the latest MMA news and notes, as well as preview Bellator’s Hawaii doubleheader.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • New UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is facing a tough break – literally. He revealed that he broke his hand, and it will require surgery, which means he’s out for some time. Just like that, all the momentum he’s gained from beating Max Holloway goes away, at least for a little while. What needs to happen next?
  • Bellator “Salute The Troops” takes place Friday and features the return of former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett in the headliner. We look ahead to the card.
  • Also taking place Saturday is Bellator 236, where women’s flyweight champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane will defend her title against Kate Jackson. Plus, the featherweight grand prix quarterfinals get underway with Antonio McKee vs. Derek Campos. We look ahead to the card.
  • Speaking of Bellator, former welterweight champion Rory MacDonald is gone after signing on with the PFL. What do we think of this surprising move?
  • OK, seriously. What needs to happen with the women’s featherweight “division” – if you can even call it that? We discuss.
  • UFC Hall of Famer apparently will continue fighting on after losing at UFC 245. But should he?
  • Johnny Walker is moving to Tristar Gym in preparation for his next fight. Good move?

MMA Junkie Radio #3010: Reaction to Usman-Covington, Volkanovski’s win, more UFC 245

Hosts “Gorgeous” George and “Goze” react to the year-end UFC 245 card, where three title fights took place in Las Vegas.

Monday’s edition of MMA Junkie Radio with hosts “Gorgeous” George and “Goze” is here!

On Episode No. 3,010 of the podcast, the guys look back at all things UFC 245 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • [autotag]Kamaru Usman[/autotag] and [autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] finally settled their grudge, with Usman retaining his welterweight title after scoring a fifth-round TKO victory that Covington didn’t agree with the stoppage. It was a grueling fight, which resulted in Covington suffering a fractured jaw. Are we satisfied with how things played out, and what makes sense for both fighters moving forward?
  • [autotag]Alexander Volkanovski[/autotag] took it to [autotag]Max Holloway[/autotag] and came away with a unanimous decision victory to claim the featherweight title. The good news for Holloway: UFC president Dana White already has expressed interest in booking an immediate rematch. Should that happen?
  • UFC dual champ [autotag]Amanda Nunes[/autotag] retained her women’s bantamweight title with a unanimous decision win over [autotag]Germaine de Randamie[/autotag]. And with that result, Nunes has just about cleared her division. What needs to happen next?
  • [autotag]Marlon Moraes[/autotag] spoiled [autotag]Jose Aldo[/autotag]’s bantamweight debut by earning a close split decision win. But get this: champ [autotag]Henry Cejudo[/autotag] has called out Aldo coming off a loss. What? How does that make any sense?
  • [autotag]Urijah Faber[/autotag]’s comeback hit a bump, as the UFC Hall of Famer lost by knockout to top contender [autotag]Petr Ya[/autotag]n, who looks legit as can be. As for Faber, does the 40-year-old legend need to call it a career? Or could this loss set the table for a future fight between Faber and T.J. Dillashaw?
  • We all love [autotag]Mike Perry[/autotag] because he’s as tough as they come. Where does he go from here after losing in 90 seconds to Geoff Neal?
