The Lancers don’t have a massive problem with fouls. They’re not great at holding up, but as long as they only get whistled around 15 times or so, they’ll be fine.

They’re great at shutting teams down from three, and there’s no real worry about UT Rio Grande Valley from doing anything big from the outside. They have of force turnovers, get out on the move, and don’t get bogged down.

Why Boston College Will Win

Boston College doesn’t usually get hit with a ton of fouls.

It can’t guard from three, but Pitt can’t and doesn’t shoot from the outside. It doesn’t make threes, either, but it forces plenty of mistakes and it’s great on the offensive boards – it can hold up against the Panthers inside.

But again, the key here is to not foul Pitt. It’s going to try hammering away, but the Eagles keep the hacks to a minimum. That was a problem in the first game, but it only committed 15 fouls in the second game, send Pitt to the Lins just 12 times, and it turned into an easy 69-56 win.

Don’t expect this to be too crazy of a shootout.

Santa Clara rolled Portland for 193 points in back-to-back games coming into this, and it’s been on a bender with 84 or more in five of its last six games.

The Broncos are coming in on a roll, and Saint Mary’s is coming in on fresh legs after a week off. Santa Clara will get up early, the Gael defense will clamp down starting late in the first half, and the grind of a second half will set up a rematch against Gonzaga for the conference title.

Why Gonzaga Will Win

Gonzaga has had to sit back and groove on the loss to Saint Mary’s for a week. Now it’s going to be rested and a wee bit angry.

The best-scoring team in the nation didn’t move the ball around against Saint Mary’s – they only had four assists against the Gaels – and they’re going to come out fast, get on the move, and pound away on the inside.

San Francisco – for all of the positives – get hit with a whole lot of fouls. It was whistled with just 14 the first time against Gonzaga, but it’s probably going to be closer to 20 in this.

Why Oral Roberts Will Win

On the right day, Oral Roberts is the team to do it.

There’s nothing subtle about what the Golden Eagles do. They’re going to shoot the three. And then they’re going to shoot another one, and another one, and when they get bored of shooting threes, they shoot more threes.

Combine that with their ability to rebound better than almost everyone in the Summit, and they’re dangerous.

So what’s the problem? Why have they only won four of their last eight games? They’re getting lit up from the field – everyone attacks the rim against this D and gets points on the move. For all of the great things North Dakota State does, it doesn’t move the ball around well enough and doesn’t come up with assists on a consistent basis.

North Dakota State vs Oral Roberts: What’s Going To Happen

These are two achingly flawed teams that tend to play interesting and fun games.

It comes down to this – can North Dakota State’s great defense pull off a terrific performance against the Oral Roberts outside shooters?

The Golden Eagles only hit around 25% from three in the two losses.

They were fantastic on the free throw line in the win over Western Illinois to get here, but that’s hardly the norm. NDSU is a rock when it gets to the line.

The Purdue-Fort Wayne offense couldn’t do much against the Norse D.

Northern Kentucky allowed ten threes to go down, but it did everything else right in a 59-59 win just before this Mastadon run got going.

It’s on a four game winning streak of its own, and it’s 13 of its last 15 with the only two losses coming to Detroit.

It’ll take a ton of threes, it’ll come up with enough offensive rebounds for plenty of second chance points, and like Purdue-Fort Wayne, it’ll come up with a whole lot of rebounds.

Chattanooga vs Furman: What’s Going To Happen

This is going to be fun.

Furman might have lost its first two meetings with the Mocs, but it was right there with plenty of chances to push through and pull it off. They were low scoring games, though, and that favored the Chattanooga defense.

The problem for Furman will turn out to be free throws. It makes them when it gets to the line, but it shoots so many threes that it simply doesn’t get enough opportunities.

Chattanooga only had 23 attempts in its two wins, but it’ll come up with a few more chances and do a bit more defensively from three when it needs to.
