CB Greg Newsome II not worried about his future with Browns

Newsome has no desire to play elsewhere.

Despite an offseason of being named in trade rumors, cornerback Greg Newsome II is not worried about his future with the Browns.

Speaking at the Midpark Titans’ girls’ flag football practice where he and linebacker Tony Fields II made an appearance, Newsome had this to say about being constantly named in trade rumblings:

“I feel like I’m comfortable here. I feel like AB and the ownership and all my coaches know what I’m capable of, they know what I bring to this team..being one of those glue guys..I feel like they know my value.” (via Camryn Justice)

The Browns had the best defense in the NFL last year, so looking for an upgrade to that unit may be a bit of a futile task. While Newsome II has room to get better still, there is no rush for him to burn through the last two seasons of his contract in Cleveland.

Newsome II, Denzel Ward, and Martin Emerson Jr. make up a great trio of cornerbacks in a system that runs predominantly nickel sets, so why shake that up now?

Browns to entertain a possible third alternate helmet after rule change

The Browns may look into adding a third helmet to their rotation.

The NFL altered the rule this offseason, allowing teams to have a second alternate helmet, and third helmet in total in their uniform arsenal. And the Cleveland Browns are going to entertain that opportunity even after announcing a new change to their helmet today.

Doing a radio hit today, Browns’ EVP JW Johnson said that the team will explore the possibility of what it would look like to add another helmet to their gameday fits. Last year, the Browns added a white helmet and it went over with glowing success among the fanbase.

Johnson has been at the forefront of uniform design, both good and bad for the Browns. But one thing that can be said about him is that he considers fan opinions. This was a major reason why the Browns brought back orange pants and the white facemasks.

Looking at the history of the Browns, however, it would be hard to find a third helmet to consider without slapping a logo on one. That feels a bit disingenuous to Browns’ history though.

Regardless, we will see what they come up with!

HC Kevin Stefanski talks football with QB Deshaun Watson during podcast

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski joined Deshaun Watson on the QB Unplugged podcast

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski joined franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson at the opening of Watson’s new restaurant in Cleveland, Lefty’s Cheesesteaks. Stefanski hopped on the mic with Watson and quarterback trainer Quincy Avery for a live podcast of their show, QB Unplugged. Stefanski wore a Glenville High School sweatshirt to represent the city’s proud football culture.

Stefanski spoke about football during his 20-minute interview. He and Watson spent some time breaking down a play-action pass from earlier in the season. The play occurred during a rainstorm against the Bengals.

The two narrate the why behind the play, and how it unfolded in real time. Plays never look as clean as when they’re drawn up. The Bengals put pressure on Watson who stepped into the pocket and delivered a 35-yard strike to Elijah Moore for a first down. Stefanski expressed pride in Watson’s ability to navigate the pocket when the play went awry.

The quarterback and head coach were extremely complimentary of each other over the interview. The two seem to have a great relationship. The pair will need a strong bond for the team to be competitive in the postseason next year.

Browns officially release new helmet featuring RB Nick Chubb

White facemasks are officially back!

It’s official. The Cleveland Browns have brought back the white facemasks. Used to show off the new (old) look? Running back Nick Chubb.

It has been leaked twice in the past two days, and now the Browns have released an official hype video around their new helmets. Bringing back the white facemasks for the first time since 2006, the Browns continue to return to tradition following their tumultuous uniform botch in 2014.

Along with the white facemasks, the Browns are bringing back the gloss finish to the helmet as well. In 2014, the Browns switched to a matte orange finish, but that has now been retired along with the brown facemasks.

Using Chubb is a great option for the release as well after a full offseason of speculation that their star running back could be a cap casualty. It’s safe to say that Chubb is still in their plans for the future as well after using him in their release video.

Fanatics drops new Browns merchandise with new logo featured

Fanatics has released apparel with the new, old logo

The Cleveland Browns have not released their new logo and helmet yet, but the cat is well out of the bag at this point.

First, it was former running back Eric Metcalf who posted pictures of the new helmet and logo on X (formerly known as Twitter) before quickly deleting the post. Now, Fanatics has released new Browns merchandise, and all of it features a new, old logo with the white facemask on the apparel.

The Browns have not worn white facemasks on a full-time basis since 2006, but a move back toward their traditional look is a move back in the right direction. The white facemasks have been a featured look as an alternative option for the Browns over the past two years, but it is officially time to say good riddance to the brown facemasks and the matte orange finish to the helmet.

Look good, feel good, play good. Right?

Browns WR Amari Cooper cracks All-Pro CB Sauce Gardner’s top five WRs

New York Jets All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner ranks Amari Cooper in his top five wide receivers in the NFL.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper received high praise from superstar cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner. The New York Jet was asked to name his top five wide receivers and named Cooper along with Tyreek Hill, Justin Jefferson, Devante Adams, and CeeDee Lamb.

Gardner is very familiar with Cleveland as the Browns have played the Jets in Gardner’s first two seasons. Cooper missed the last game against the Jets with an injury. But in the first matchup, Cooper had one touchdown and 101 yards on nine receptions.

Cooper is the most underrated wide receiver in the NFL. The former first-round pick has never been selected to an All-Pro team in his nine-year career. He’s only made five Pro Bowls including this past season.

Cooper was the first receiver in Browns history to have back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Cooper’s unique blend of size, speed, and strength makes him a near-impossible assignment to cover. Cooper’s deliberate, craftsman-like approach to route running has transformed him into a guru.

Cooper is seen as a mentor to a host of younger receivers. New Browns’ wide receiver Jerry Jeudy mentioned how he looked forward to learning more from Cooper now that they’re teammates. It’s rewarding to watch the new crop of NFL All-Pros respect Cooper for the legend he is.

Two former Browns signing one-day deals to retire in brown and orange

Two former Browns will retire in the brown and orange!

Ready to hang up their cleats, two former members of the Cleveland Browns want to retire as members of the Cleveland Browns. Linebacker Christian Kirksey and wide receiver Rashard Higgins will both sign one-day deals with the team to retire in the brown and orange.

Kirksey, drafted in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft, spent the first six seasons of his nine-year career with the Browns. He was a team captain over the final three years of his tenure in Cleveland, starting a total of 54 games in the brown and orange. He then moved on, spending one year with the Green Bay Packers and two years with the Houston Texans.

Higgins joined the Browns two years later as a fifth round pick in the 2016 NFL draft. He also spent six seasons in Cleveland before signing a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers in 2022. Higgins amassed a total of 1,900 yards and 12 touchdowns in Cleveland.

Congratulations on the careers, Christian and Rashard!

Browns re-sign exclusive rights free agent DE Sam Kamara

The ERFA is officially back.

The Cleveland Browns have officially re-signed reserve defensive end Sam Kamara, who was an exclusive rights free agent.

A mainstay on their practice squad over the past two seasons, Kamara has even found himself on the active roster and a part of the 53-man roster in Cleveland as the wear and tear of the seasons rolled along. Kamara, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2021, has appeared in three games for the Browns and has racked up seven tackles and one tackle behind the line of scrimmage.

From last season’s defensive line group, the Browns have also brought back defensive end Za’Darius Smith and defensive tackles Shelby Harris and Maurice Hurst. In free agency, they signed Quinton Jefferson as the replacement for Jordan Elliott, who left for the San Francisco 49ers.

Kamara is no lock to make the roster, but the Browns have loved keeping him around, so one would have to assume he has a fast pass to the practice squad at the end of training camp.

Browns move on from OL Drew Forbes after failed physical

Cleveland has moved on from Forbes after drafting him in 2019

The players are back in Berea. The Cleveland Browns kicked off the first day of offseason conditioning on Monday. On the same day, the Browns waived versatile offensive lineman Drew Forbes after he failed his physical. Forbes has been with the Browns after being drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft.

Forbes spent some time in 2022 with the Detroit Lions following John Dorsey who was the Browns general manager that drafted him. He opted out of the 2020 season during the COVID year when the Browns won 11 games.

During his time in the NFL, he played in 13 games, but the team kept him around despite injuries and struggled to find the field. But his ability to play both inside and outside could lead to him finding a home for training camp.

Next up for the Cleveland Browns is the 2024 NFL draft, which kicks off next week in Detroit as the offseason rages on.

Former Browns RB Eric Metcalf leaks new helmet and logo, deletes tweet

The former Pro Bowl running back committed a false start…

The Cleveland Browns are getting a new logo and helmet in 2024, and former Pro Bowl running back Eric Metcalf incidentally gave everyone a sneak preview.

Over the past two seasons, the Browns have used white facemasks, which were their primary helmet from 1999 when they came back into the NFL until 2005, as an alternate look. They have been rumored to be bringing it back full-time, and Metcalf has seemingly sealed the deal.

Leaking the helmet and logo on X (formerly known as Twitter), Metcalf posted:

“OG making a comeback in ’24!!! Thanks for the love @Browns”

He also attached the following images to the post:

Slowly evolving back to tradition ever since departing in 2015 when they switched to the hideous wide-striped uniforms, the Browns are correcting the uniform mistakes. Even after going back to the traditional uniforms in 2020, the brown facemasks with the matte orange finish remained.

Now, the Browns go back to the gloss orange and the white facemask. Nature is restoring itself in Cleveland.
