Lady Vols shut out South Carolina

Lady Vols notch a 1-0 victory over South Carolina.

A late goal propelled Tennessee into the win column for the fifth consecutive time Sunday.

After a scoreless first half, the No. 12 Lady Vols found the back of the net in the 87th minute.

Freshman Taylor Huff scored a goal to help UT notch a 1-0 victory over South Carolina at Stone Stadium.

The Lady Vols (12-1-0, 5-1-0 SEC) have won five straight league matches after losing their SEC opener to Arkansas on Sept. 17 in Fayetteville.

Tennessee also snapped a home conference unbeaten streak for the Gamecocks (9-4-0, 4-2-0). Before the match, South Carolina did not lose an SEC contest at home since 2018.

Claudia Dipasupil and Jaida Thomas were each credited with an assist on Huff’s marker, her seventh of the 2021 campaign.

UT goalkeeper Lindsey Romig made four saves en route to recording a clean sheet.

Lily Felts leads Lady Vols past South Carolina

Lady Vols sweep Gamecocks in volleyball.

A former area high school volleyball star led the Lady Vols to victory Saturday.

Lily Felts had 13 kills, nine digs, three service aces and two assists, leading No. 22 Tennessee to a 25-22, 25-20, 25-17 victory over South Carolina at Carolina Volleyball Center in Columbia.

Felts, a senior outside hitter from Knoxville, is a Berean Christian School graduate. She won a Class A state championship as a senior at Berean.

It was the 11th match sweep for the Lady Vols (14-3, 6-1 SEC) and it helped UT win the two-match series against the Gamecocks (11-5, 3-3 SEC).

Breana Runnels finished the match with 12 kills and nine digs, while Natalie Hayward had 34 assists and two blocks.

Madison Bryant posted eight digs and five assists.

Tennessee defeats South Carolina in four sets.

Tennessee volleyball notched a four-set road victory Friday night.

The No. 22 Lady Vols outlasted South Carolina, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 26-24, in a Southeastern Conference tilt at the Carolina Volleyball Center in Columbia before an announced crowd of 1,129.

Tennessee (13-3, 5-1 SEC) had three players post double figures in kills against the Gamecocks (11-4, 3-2 SEC).

Breana Runnels and Danielle Mahaffey each recorded 14 kills, while Knoxville native and Berean Christian School graduate Lily Felts added 13.

Felts also posted 12 digs and five assists. Mahaffey totaled five blocks against South Carolina and Runnels chipped in defensively with 10 digs.

The Lady Vols’ service game generated six aces with Paola Laborda and Kya Moore serving up three each.

Natalie Hayward recorded 44 assists and two blocks.

The Lady Vols and Gamecocks conclude their series Saturday at 5 p.m. EDT.

Tennessee shuts out Florida in soccer.

Tennessee won its fourth consecutive match by shutting out Florida, 2-0.

Claudia Dipasupil scored a goal and recorded one assist as the No. 12 Lady Vols prevailed over Florida at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Goalkeeper Lindsey Romig made three saves en route to posting a clean sheet against the Gators (3-7-3, 2-2-1 SEC).

Tennessee (11-1-0, 4-1-0 SEC) also won its fourth consecutive match against Florida in a streak that dates back to 2018.

Dipasupil tallied the game’s first marker when she converted a penalty kick in the 20th minute.

The Lady Vols extended their advantage to 2-0 on a goal by Jordan Fusco in the 52nd minute. Dipasupil and Jaida Thomas were each credited with an assist on the insurance goal.

UT outshot Florida, 25-6, in the match with 11 of the Lady Vols’ scoring chances landed on goal.

Tennessee volleyball drops five-set match to Aggies.

Tennessee’s volleyball team suffered its first Southeastern Conference loss of the 2021 season Sunday afternoon.

Less than 24 hours after the No. 20 Lady Vols swept Texas A&M, UT dropped a five-set match to the Aggies, 24-26, 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 17-15, at Thompson-Boling Arena.

With the win, Texas A&M (10-4, 3-1 SEC) salvaged a split in the two-game conference series.

The Aggies picked up a solid defensive effort from Camille Conner. Conner finished the marathon match with 14 digs and five blocks.

Texas A&M also had three players post double figures in kills as Morgan Christian had 20. Lauren Davis added 16 and Destiny Cox finished with 15.

For the Lady Vols. Danielle Mahaffey tallied 14 kills and seven blocks. Breanna Runnels totaled 13 kills and Ava Bell finished the match with 11 kills and six blocks.

Natalie Hayward was the Lady Vols’ top passer as she amassed 49 assists. She also had 20 digs and four blocks.

Madison Bryant had 23 digs and six assists while Lily Felts finished with 11 digs, two assists and one ace.

Tennessee’s volleyball team remained undefeated in Southeastern Conference play with a victory Saturday afternoon.

The No. 20 Lady Vols swept Texas A&M, 25-19, 25-20-25-21, at Thompson-Boling Arena to keep their perfect record intact.

Junior right side player Morgahn Fingall led the way for UT (12-2, 4-0 SEC) as she had 11 kills, seven digs, four aces, four blocks and one assist against the Aggies (9-4, 2-1).

Breana Runnels added nine kills, while Danielle Mahaffey finished with six kills and six blocks.

Natalie Hayward had 28 assists and eight digs. Madison Bryant finished with eight digs and five assists.

The Lady Vols and Aggies close out their two-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT at Thompson-Boling Arena. The match will be televised on SEC Network.

Tennessee’s winning streak has reached three games.

No. 15 Tennessee overcame a deficit against Texas A&M (5-6-1, 1-3-0 SEC) Friday to notch a 3-1 victory over the Aggies at Ellis Field in College Station.

After a scoreless first half, Texas A&M’s Carissa Boekmann tallied in the 53rd minute.

Tennessee (10-1-0, 3-1-0 SEC) scored in the 56th minute on a goal by Jaida Thomas. Mackenzie George and Jordan Fusco were each credited with an assist on the game-tying goal.

The Lady Vols took a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute on Thomas’ second marker of the match.

Tennessee tallied an insurance goal from George in the 76th minute.

The Lady Vols outshot Texas A&M, 18-15. Eight of UT’s scoring chances landed on goal, while the Aggies finished the game with six shots on goal.

Tennessee’s volleyball team received a stellar effort from a former local high school star in its Southeastern Conference victory over Auburn.

Knoxville native and Berean Christian School graduate Lily Felts led the No. 20 Lady Vols to a 25-16, 25-21, 25-14 victory over Auburn at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Felts, a senior outside hitter, totaled 14 kills, nine digs and two assists to help the Lady Vols remain undefeated in the SEC.

Breana Runnels added 10 kills and one ace for Tennessee (11-2, 3-0 SEC), while Morgahn Fingall posted nine kills and two blocks.

Natalie Hayward was UT’s leading passer as she finished with 37 assists. She also provided a defensive spark with 14 digs and one block against the Tigers (8-4, 0-2).

Madison Bryant finished the match with 13 digs, four assists, one ace and one block.

Lady Vols victorious against Missouri in overtime

Tennessee soccer victorious against Missouri in overtime.

Tennessee’s soccer team captured a Southeastern Conference victory Sunday afternoon.

The No. 21 Lady Vols came from behind to notch a 2-1 overtime win over Missouri at Walton Stadium in Columbia.

It was Tennessee’s second consecutive SEC overtime win. The Lady Vols defeated Auburn in overtime, 2-1, on Sept. 23 at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Missouri (4-6-0, 0-3-0 SEC) scored first when Milena Fischer tallied her fifth goal during the 2021 campaign in the ninth minute of the match.

The Lady Vols (9-1-0, 2-1-0 SEC) answered in the 17th minute when Jaida Thomas scored the equalizer, her fifth goal of the season. Taylor Huff was credited with an assist on the game-tying marker.

UT outshot the Tigers, 17-6, and had seven of its scoring chances land on goal.

Hannah Zaluski scored in the 106th minute for the game-winner. Mackenzie George assisted on the final goal of the match.

Lady Vols’ goalkeeper Lindsey Romig recorded two saves in the contest.

Tennessee sweeps Arkansas to win SEC volleyball series.

No. 21 Tennessee completed a sweep of Arkansas Sunday.

The Lady Vols defeated Arkansas, 25-19, 25-19, 25-17, before an announced crowd of 639 fans at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.

Tennessee (10-2, 2-0 SEC) defeated Arkansas in four sets in the series opener Friday.

In Sunday’s match, Knoxville native and Berean Christian School graduate Lily Felts led Tennessee with nine kills, 12 digs and two assists against the Razorbacks (10-4, 1-2).

Breana Runnels also finished the match with nine kills and one ace, while Danielle Mahaffey finished with eight kills and six blocks.

Defensively, Madison Bryant finished with 16 digs and Natalie Hayward added 15.

Hayward also totaled 30 assists and Bryant served up one ace.
