Giants QB Tommy DeVito: ‘Aaron Rodgers is my GOAT’

Tommy DeVito is an Aaron Rodgers fan.

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito might just disagree with Mark Schlereth about where Aaron Rodgers stands in the all-time ranking of NFL quarterbacks. DeVito believes that the New York Jets quarterback is No. 1.

The comments from DeVito came after a very hot take from Schlereth last week about Rodgers.

A former NFL offensive lineman, Schlereth is now an analyst with Fox Sports. During a recent podcast, Schlereth said Rodgers is not among the best QBs of all time.

In fact, he said Rodgers would be “sitting at the kids table.”

At the ESPY Awards last week, reporter Joey Mistretta asked DeVito if there are any quarterbacks that he tries to play like or emulate. (The audio is not great because of background noise at the show.)

“Aaron Rodgers is my GOAT. I watch a lot of football,” DeVito said.

DeVito continued with the praise, saying “Aaron Rodgers is a magician, an artist with the football.”

If Rodgers is healthy this season, the Jets are expected to end their playoff drought.

DeVito said playing against Rodgers and the Jets was extra motivation for him given how much he respects the future Hall of Famer.

Watch as Aaron Rodgers gets himself out of the woods

Aaron Rodgers got himself out of a tough position at the American Century Championship.

Aaron Rodgers got himself in a bit of a mess on Sunday, but the New York Jets star rather easily got of the woods and back onto the green in a celebrity golf tournament.

Why are we writing this? Because it is mid-July and this world doesn’t need another article ranking the season’s opponents for the Jets or their top five candidates for a breakout player.

We want Rodgers, swinging a gold club confidently so that we can take the mental leap that he is healthy and ready to go.

Rodgers, who is playing in a golf tournament in Nevada, found himself in the woods on Sunday. It capped off a long weekend for Rodgers where the Jets quarterback certainly made some noise.

(Also, not a bad three rounds of golf from Rodgers).

The final day of the American Century Championship saw Rodgers finish out the three days of the tournament in fifteenth place.

Rodgers of course, gave an update via NBC Sports that his Achilles injury is better and he has had a good offseason of recovery.

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers provides an Achilles injury update to NBC Sports

Aaron Rodgers talks health with NBC Sports.

Aaron Rodgers is back and healthy. So said the New York Jets quarterback last week in providing an update on the season-ending Achilles injury that he suffered in Week 1 of last season.

Rodgers is set to turn 41 years old this December. A four-time MVP, he has been named an All-Pro five times in his career and made 10 Pro Bowl appearances.

A healthy Rodgers is the lynchpin for the Jets season. Should he return to health, the offense projects to be vastly improved from last year where in his absence, the Jets were the second-worst total offense in the NFL.

Speaking at a golf tournament in Nevada, Rodgers touched on how he is feeling and doing this offseason:

“My Achilles feels good, it felt really good (at) the end of last year. There’s always that kind of plateau as far as it’s just about getting back into it,” Rodgers told NBC Sports.

“I felt good all spring, had a nice OTAs. Had a beautiful trip to Egypt. This is the like last marker, summer is over on Sunday. Walking up 18 is super bittersweet.”

In 2022, Rodgers had 3,695 passing yards with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

What’s the PFF projected win total for the New York Jets?

What’s the Pro Football Focus win total projection for the Jets.

Pro Football Focus has some guarded optimism for the New York Jets with a recent projection of a winning season. It could well mean a return to the playoffs for the Jets.

The projected win total by Pro Football Focus (PFF) for the Jets is a clear hedge, given the questions about the return of Aaron Rodgers. Given that Rodgers was injured in the first quarter of the first week of the regular season.

And while the 40-year-old Rodgers has been very healthy throughout his NFL career, there is still some concern about his comeback. The Jets rebuilt their offensive line this offseason to sustain Rodgers’ career, and a healthy quarterback likely means the Jets are in the playoffs this season.

With a strength of schedule in the bottom half of the league, the opportunity is certainly there for the Jets to make a run into the postseason.

They are being projected by PFF as having 9.0349 wins this season. That is the third-highest projection in the AFC East:

  • Buffalo Bills (9.723 projected wins)
  • Miami Dolphins (9.141 projected wins)

The New England Patriots had the lowest projected win total (6.4974) in the NFL according to PFF.

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz is bullish on the New York Jets potential on offense

On FS1, Jordan Schultz talks the potential of the New York Jets offense.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz is all in on the potential for the New York Jets to have a big season.

And Schultz’s optimism is based first and foremost on the potential for the Jets on the offensive side of the ball.

The Jets defense, which is projected to be a top-three unit in the NFL this season, is certainly the foundation for the franchise’s playoff hopes. But the offense is certainly brimming with the chance to be pretty, pretty good.

And during an appearance this week on FS1, Schultz certainly made the case for why the Jets offense can take a huge step forward this offseason.

“I’m so bullish on the Jets. I’ve said it before, I’ve said it again: Aaron Rodgers is a force multiplier. And when you give him Garrett Wilson, an ascending superstar. Breece Hall, who is going to skyrocket and become one of the premier backs in this league – an ascending superstar,” Schultz said on ‘Speak’ on FS1.

“You add Morgan Moses, you add Tyron Smith, you add Olu Fashanu…Not to mention, you bring in my man Malachi Corley out of Western Kentucky who is…Debo Samuel 2.0. He does a lot of the same type of things. He is malicious with the football, you don’t want to tackle this man in space

“Then you go out and get Mike Williams, a big play threat, who is healthy and doesn’t have the knee issue.”

Last year, with Rodgers missing what amounted to the entirety of the season due to an Achilles injury, the Jets were the second-worst offense in the NFL.

A healthy Rodgers likely means that the Jets can be among the best offensive units in the NFL in 2024.

Breece Hall fans the flames of Davante Adams to the Jets

Breece Hall talks about Davante Adams rumors.

A Friday appearance on ‘Up & Adams’ by New York Jets running back Breece Hall certainly upped the buzz about Davante Adams being traded to the AFC East team.

The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver has been linked to the Jets on several occasions this week, including a light-hearted mention by quarterback Aaron Rodgers this week. Rodgers was a teammate on the Green Bay Packers for Adams’ first eight years in the NFL.

Count Hall, named the second-best running back in the NFL this week by ESPN, as among those hoping the Jets can land Davante Adams. Saying that “Davante – he knows he’s going to get his” when talking about touches in the offense, Hall was then cut off by Kay Adams who had a very pertinent question.

Kay Adams asked simply,  “I’m sorry, is Davanate a Jet?”

“You never know, you never know. We’re always talking, we’re always scheming,” Hall said with a smile.

In 2023, Davante Adams had 103 receptions for 1,144 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. That is a lot of potential firepower to add to the Jets offense.

[lawrence-related id=694942,694940,694934]

Kay Adams then asked another question on if the Jets should go all-in and acquire the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.

“I think we should. I’m on board,” Hall said before talking about the potential impact on the offense of the move.

“With him, with Garrett and Mike Williams…just pick your poison. Do you want me to beat you or you want those three to beat you with Aaron? It’s just pick your poison.”

The New York Jets were shut out of Colin Cowherd’s quarterback/head coach ranking

FS1 host Colin Cowherd doesn’t think New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Robert Saleh are a top-10 tandem. #Jets #NYJ

Colin Cowherd unveiled his best head coach/quarterback duo this week and two AFC East teams made the list.

Neither of the teams were the New York Jets.

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes were, no surprisingly, the top head coach and quarterback duo on Cowherd’s list. That just seems like a given. But the rest of the list is open to debate, especially with the exclusion of Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Robert Saleh.

Let’s be honest, Saleh is on the hot seat heading into this season of high expectations. But let’s also be honest that he overachieved in taking the Jets, (without Rodgers from Week 2) to a 7-10 record last year.

That should have been enough for Rodgers and Saleh to make the top 10 list, right?

Sean McDermott and Josh Allen came in fifth on the list, noting that the Bills are “obviously a very good football organization.”

“I think we all know (that) Josh is probably, even more so than Mahomes, physically on a different planet,” Cowherd said on FS1.

“Size, speed, arm strength, there’s nothing like Josh Allen in the world, including Mahomes.”

[lawrence-related id=694940,694938]

Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins came in at No. 9 on the list.

Aaron Rodgers ups the Davante Adams to the Jets banter…’again’

Did Aaron Rodgers just say what we think he did?

Well, that escalated quickly.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers just upped the buzz about Davante Adams joining him in the AFC East. The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver has made six Pro Bowl appearances and been named an All-Pro three times.

This week, Rodgers played in a golf tournament in Nevada. He was asked about Vegas Sports Today about how Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy will impact Adams this season.

In 2023, Davante Adams had 103 receptions for 1,144 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

Adams played the first eight years in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, all with Rodgers. Rodgers praised the impact of Getsy, then dropped an unsolicited statement about Adams joining him with the Jets.

“I love Luke Getsy, he’s a fantastic coach,” Rodgers told Vegas Sports Today.

“I love Davante, can’t wait to play with him – again.”

We heard that, right? Rodgers wants to play with Adams again. Was that a subtle nudge to the Jets to get the job done?

[lawrence-related id=694940,694938]

That will certainly up the buzz about the Jets making a trade for Adams.

MVP! NFL.com says Breece Hall will be the New York Jets best player

Breece Hall will be the New York Jets MVP according to NFL.com.

Breece Hall is poised to be the best player on the New York Jets roster this year. That is the prediction from NFL.com about the third-year running back.

And given the Jets‘ roster, it would be a big statement from Hall if he is the team’s top player.

Hall seems ready to take that next step and be an elite NFL running back. This week, an ESPN survey ranked Hall as the second-best running back in the NFL behind Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers.

Last season, Hall averaged a very impressive 4.5 yards per carry.  He finished the season with 1,585 yards of total offense and nine total touchdowns (994 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns).

So to say Hall will be the MVP of the Jets

NFL.com’s Eric Edholm said he realizes that bypassing quarterback Aaron Rodgers, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, defensive lineman Quinnen Williams and cornerback Ahmad Gardner is a bold statement. But he believes the Jets running back can be just that good:

“Ultimately, Hall looked so good to me down the stretch after an up-and-down start to the season (some of which was clearly not his fault). In the Jets’ final three games, he ran for 357 yards and three TDs, caught 23 passes and another TD, and added a 2-point conversion for good measure. Now factor in Hall being another year removed from ACL surgery, and it’s not hard to see how he could be a massive part of this offense as a runner and receiver.”

Nathaniel Hackett is pumped about the New York Jets offense

Nathaniel Hackett is excited for the direction of the New York Jets offense.

There is enthusiasm from New York Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as he heads into his second season with the offense.

Hackett’s enthusiasm is likely based on the anticipation that Aaron Rodgers is back. If the future Hall of Fame quarterback can stay on the field and be healthy, then the Jets have a good chance of reversing their record from a year ago.

And a unit that was No. 31 in the NFL in total offense and third-worst in passing offense projects to be much improved with Rodgers in the pocket.

“Anytime you’re in a second-year offense, it’s a completely different feel from when you first start,” Hackett said via the team’s website (h/t Jack Bell of NYJets.com).

“You are installing plays – you are installing alignments and you are talking about guys just trying to understand what they’re doing. Now you can really detail it up. You can talk about the intricacies of the route (and) you can experiment with new plays, new motions, all kinds of different fun things.”
