Get the latest update on the foot injury suffered by Jacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Travis Etienne

Jacksonville Jaguars first-round pick Travis Etienne suffered a foot injury during Monday night’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints, and the prognosis is still up in the air.

The former Clemson star was spotted on crutches after the game, and while X-rays were negative, further tests will be done to determine the full extent of the injury, as well as how long Etienne will be out of action (per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport).

The No. 23 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Etienne is expected to team up with former Clemson teammate Trevor Lawrence and help the Jaguars take their rebuild to the next level.

Jaguars won’t name Trevor Lawrence starting QB just yet

The Jacksonville Jaguars won’t yet commit to No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence as their Week 1 starter at quarterback

The Jacksonville Jaguars landed one of the best quarterback prospects in recent memory, but they’re not handing the starting job to Trevor Lawrence just yet.

Despite the full expectation that Lawrence will be under center as a rookie in Week 1, the Jags aren’t committing to that at this point, leaving the door open to potentially give Lawrence some time behind incumbent starter Gardner Minshew.

Jaguars passing game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday that it’s “too early to tell” how their quarterback battle will play out in training camp, per ESPN’s Michael DiRocco.

This feels like obvious coach-speak, so don’t be surprised when Lawrence is indeed the Week 1 starter in Jacksonville.

Jaguars ‘planning to sign’ former 1st-round pick Tim Tebow

The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly planning to sign former Heisman Trophy winner and first-round draft pick Tim Tebow

At long last, Jags fans.

More than a decade after he was a Heisman Trophy winner and first-round draft pick, Tim Tebow is close to signing a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

Tebow starred as a quarterback at the University of Florida, but his NFL quarterbacking career flamed out quickly after the Denver Broncos selected him in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft. He spent time with multiple other NFL teams before moving on to a career in professional baseball, where he spent most of his time in the minor leagues with the New York Mets organization.

Now, he has a chance to reunite with college head coach Urban Meyer in a potential hybrid role for the Jaguars offense, similar to what Taysom Hill has done with the New Orleans Saints.

Could Tim Tebow reunite with Urban Meyer in a Taysom Hill role?

The Jacksonville Jaguars worked out Tim Tebow as a tight end, and he could reunite with Urban Meyer in a Taysom Hill role

The Jacksonville Jaguars worked out Heisman Trophy winner and former first-round pick Tim Tebow recently, setting up a potential reunion between the Florida Gators legend and his college head coach, Urban Meyer.

The wrinkle? Tebow worked out as a tight end, but could end up playing a Taysom Hill role for Meyer, should he end up ending his pro football retirement and signing with the Jags (via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport).

Tebow hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2012, and has been playing baseball in the New York Mets organization since.

Many wondered whether or not Tebow would have had a longer, more successful NFL career had he switched to tight end or another position besides quarterback. Now that Meyer has dipped his toes into the NFL coaching game for the first time, it’ll be interesting to see if he brings back this blast from the past to play a unique role for his offense.

Tim Tebow recently worked out for the Jaguars as a tight end

The Jacksonville Jaguars recently put Tim Tebow through a workout as a tight end, and it’s possible he could sign with the team

If you’re a Jacksonville Jaguars fan who wanted to draft Tim Tebow years ago, your wish might finally be coming true.

The Heisman Trophy winner and former first-round pick, Tebow recently worked out for the Jaguars, but as a tight end instead of at quarterback, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Tebow hasn’t played an NFL game since 2012, and has been in the New York Mets’ minor league system as a baseball player since.

The Jaguars are expected to use the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft on Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, but it looks like they’re at least entertaining the notion of bringing Tebow back to pro football to play for his old college coach, Urban Meyer.

Could Urban Meyer, Jaguars actually pass on Trevor Lawrence?

There’s no way Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars would actually pass up Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, right?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have lured Urban Meyer out of retirement, giving him his first coaching job at the NFL level, a post that comes along with tons of valuable resources with which to attempt a daunting rebuild.

The biggest one? The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, a selection that has seemingly been earmarked for Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence since the moment he stepped on the field for the Tigers as a freshman.

But with Meyer now calling the shots in Jacksonville, is there a chance the Jags could actually pass up one of the most anticipated and highly regarded quarterback prospects in draft history?

Meyer certainly seems to be leaving the door open to that possibility, putting Ohio State’s Justin Fields and even BYU’s Zach Wilson in the same sentence (via NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero):

While some will point out that Meyer could simply be keeping his cards close to the vest, there’s really no reason to do that when you hold the No. 1 overall pick.

Others might draw a connection between Fields and Meyer, considering the latter’s history with the Buckeyes. But Meyer left Columbus after the 2018 season, the year before Fields transferred from Georgia to Ohio State. Meyer might have some inside intel from current OSU head coach Ryan Day, but that might be the extent of any inside track Fields might have over Lawrence for the top spot in this year’s draft.

This might be a constant storyline throughout the predraft process if Meyer continues to remain vague about the team’s intentions, but when the Jags actually go on the clock in April, don’t be surprised if there’s no drama whatsoever, and Lawrence is the pick.

Jaguars finalizing deal to make Urban Meyer head coach

The Jacksonville Jaguars are wrapping up a deal to make Urban Meyer their new head coach

Trevor Lawrence and Urban Meyer in Jacksonville?

It sure looks like it, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero are reporting that the former Ohio State and Florida head coach will be coming out of retirement to take the same position with the Jaguars, giving him his first shot at coaching at the NFL level.

As Rapoport points out, the Jags are loaded with tons of resources to help Meyer succeed, including plenty of premium draft picks and the most cap space in the entire league to spend this offseason.

While he found plenty of success at the college level, winning national championships with both the Buckeyes and Gators, it remains to be seen whether or not that success will translate to the next level.

Could Urban Meyer join Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville?

Could the Jacksonville Jaguars be targeting Urban Meyer to replace Doug Marrone?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have already locked up the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, and with it, the chance to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

But the Jags might also be looking for a new head coach after Sunday’s season finale, and they could be going after a big name from the college ranks to fill that position, as well.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that if the Jags indeed decide to part ways with head coach Doug Marrone after the 2020 season, former Ohio State and Florida head coach Urban Meyer could be their top target to replace him:

Meyer, who hasn’t coached since 2018 and is currently a college football analyst for Fox Sports, would be an intriguing choice for the Jaguars, to say the least. While he certainly enjoyed his share of success at the college level, Meyer has no NFL coaching experience.

The fact that the Jags won’t just have the No. 1 overall pick, but also the most cap space in the league this offseason, as well as five picks in the first two rounds of this year’s draft, could certainly be an attractive situation if Meyer indeed wants to consider ending his retirement.
