Jaguars CB Tyson Campbell ‘should be cleared’ for Week 7

Jaguars CB Tyson Campbell ‘should be cleared’ for Week 7

Jaguars cornerback Tyson Campbell continues to trend toward a return to action in Week 7 against the Patriots, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson shared on Friday.

Campbell, who the Jaguars placed on injured reserve Sept. 12 after hurting his hamstring in Week 1 against Miami, had his 21-day practice window opened last Wednesday.

Pederson revealed at the time that Campbell was “leaning” toward being activated from the injured reserve in Week 7. Six practices later, he remains on that trajectory.

“Tyson looks good, had a good week of preparation,” Pederson said Friday. “And again, just barring any setbacks, he should be cleared and good for the game. We’ll make that decision.”

Pederson added that such a decision would be made officially on Saturday.

Campbell recorded three tackles including one for loss in Week 1, his first game after signing a four-year, $76.5 million contract extension with Jacksonville in July.

Since being drafted No. 33 overall in the second round by the Jaguars in 2021, Campbell has logged 207 tackles with seven for loss, six interceptions, 30 defended passes and two forced fumbles in 44 games.

Jacksonville vs. New England will kick off Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET / 2:30 p.m. BST, at Wembley Stadium in London.

Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. is considered “week-to-week” as he nurses a hamstring injury suffered against the Bears in Week 6, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson told reporters on Monday.

“Travis had a hamstring in the game. He’s going to be week-to-week. He tweaked it on a go ball early in the game,” Pederson shared.

Etienne entered the matchup with a shoulder injury, which he originally suffered in Week 4 against the Texans and played through in Week 5 versus the Colts.

Etienne was a limited participant in Jacksonville’s practices last week due to his shoulder but did not carry an injury designation into the game against Chicago.

Through six appearances this season, all starts, Etienne has rushed 56 times for 230 yards and two touchdowns. He has added 16 receptions for 91 yards.

In his 40-game career with the Jaguars, Etienne has logged 543 rushing attempts for 2,363 yards and 18 touchdowns, and caught 109 passes for 883 yards and one touchdown.

On Friday, Chicago labeled star cornerback Tyrique Stevenson as doubtful to play against Jacksonville in Week 6.

Stevenson traveled with the Bears to London but experienced a calf injury during practice on Thursday, resulting in his limited participation for the day. He did not practice Friday.

The second-year cornerback out of Miami started 16 games as a rookie and recorded four interceptions, 16 defended passes, two forced fumbles and 86 total tackles including one for loss. He has logged one interception, a pick-six, five defended passes and 26 tackles through four games this season.

The Bears previously ruled starting safety Jaquan Brisker, and backups, defensive tackle Zacch Pickens (groin) and cornerback Terell Smith (hip), out of Week 6 on Monday. They did not travel with the team to London.

Left guard Teven Jenkins (ankle) and defensive lineman Jacob Martin (toe) were deemed questionable to play against Jacksonville on Chicago’s Friday injury report.

The Jaguars arrived in London Friday morning, will hold a walk-through practice in the afternoon and conduct a standard practice Saturday.

Jaguars place WR Devin Duvernay on injured reserve

Jaguars place WR Devin Duvernay on injured reserve

The Jaguars placed wide receiver Devin Duvernay on their injured reserve Wednesday. Duvernay will miss at least four games as he nurses a hamstring injury suffered in Week 5 against the Colts.

Duvernay signed with Jacksonville via free agency in March, inking a two-year deal worth $8.5 million with the Jaguars.

While he has not been utilized offensively to a significant extent, Duvernay has operated as Jacksonville’s primary kickoff and punt returner this season. He has averaged 20 yards per kickoff return over five attempts, and 11.6 yards per punt return over seven tries.

His longest run-back of the season came against Indianapolis on Sunday, a 53-yard punt return, which Jacksonville capitalized on with running back Tank Bigsby scoring an 18-yard touchdown on the next play, increasing the Jaguars’ leads to 20-10.

Duvernay has also rushed three times for 10 yards and caught one pass for negative one yard this season.

In his 64-game, five-season NFL career, Duvernay has logged 95 receptions for 897 yards and five touchdowns, 30 rushing attempts for 229 yards and one touchdown, 78 kickoff returns for 23.5 yards on average and two touchdowns, and 72 punt returns for 12.7 yards on average.

This story was updated to correct a typo.

The Jaguars are “leaning” toward activating cornerback Tyson Campbell from their injured reserve in Week 7 before hosting the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson revealed Wednesday.

Campbell’s 21-day injured reserve practice window was opened by the Jaguars shortly before Pederson virtually met with reporters and the team began to practice Wednesday morning.

“We’re excited to be in a position to open his window,” Pederson said.

“And really it just allows him, the player, to just kind of work himself back into practice. He’s been training and rehabbing, [but] it’s different from the football movements and it’s a way for us as coaches, too, to monitor that and keep him in kind of a controlled environment.”

Campbell was placed on Jacksonville’s injured reserve Sept. 12 after injuring his hamstring in Week 1 against Miami. He finished the game with three tackles including one for loss.

The injury led Campbell to miss the Jaguars’ last four games and will likely leave him out of Week 6 against the Chicago Bears, also in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, barring a surprise acceleration of his recovery timeline in practice this week.

Campbell, who signed a four-year, $76.5 million contract extension with Jacksonville in July, has recorded 207 tackles with seven for loss, six interceptions, 30 defended passes and two forced fumbles in 44 career appearances.

Pederson suggested Campbell has handled his injury well despite its timing, before the first game of the season even concluded.

“I see Tyson every day and he’s got a smile on his face. He’s a great kid, obviously,” Pederson described. “He’s handled it well. Been in a great frame of mind, he’s attacked his rehab and he’s in a position now to work himself back.”

Jaguars open IR practice window for CB Tyson Campbell

The Jaguars opened cornerback Tyson Campbell’s 21-day practice window Wednesday, allowing him to begin working his way back into action after his Sept. 12 placement on the injured reserve.

Campbell missed Weeks 2-5 with a hamstring injury, suffered in Jacksonville’s Week 1 loss to Miami.

The Jaguars can officially activate Campbell from the injured reserve any time within his 21-day practice window.

Jacksonville’s second-round, No. 33 overall NFL draft pick in 2021, Campbell signed a four-year, $76.5 million contract extension with the Jaguars this July, which included $53.4 million in total guarantees.

He opened the 2024 campaign with three tackles including one for loss against the Dolphins, bringing his career stat line to 207 tackles with seven for loss, six interceptions, 30 defended passes and two forced fumbles.

Montaric Brown, a seventh-round draft pick by Jacksonville in 2022, has occupied Campbell’s role during the starter’s absence.

Brown leads the Jaguars with 37 total tackles this season, including three for loss, tied for second-most on the squad. Brown has also broken up three passes.

Doug Pederson shares positive update on Jaguars TE Evan Engram

Doug Pederson shares positive update on Jaguars TE Evan Engram

Evan Engram’s absence from the Jaguars offense is trending towards ceasing in London.

Sidelined by a hamstring injury since the hours before kickoff in Week 2, Engram returned to practice in a limited capacity with Jacksonville last week and appears poised to play against Chicago at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Sunday, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson indicated Monday.

“I think he was really close last week,” Pederson said.

“He got himself back into practice a little bit. I would anticipate him doing more this week and seeing where he’s at at the end of the week, but I think the chances of him getting back in here this week are pretty good.”

Engram caught one pass for five yards against Miami in Week 1. Since signing with Jacksonville as a free agent in 2022, he has produced 188 receptions for 1,734 yards and eight touchdowns.

Second-year Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange has started in place of Engram since his injury occurred, catching 12 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns in four games.

The Jaguars will spend Weeks 6-7 across the pond. After playing Chicago, they will host New England at Wembley Stadium in London on Oct. 20.

Jaguars vs. Colts inactives: Richardson, Engram out of Week 5

Jacksonville and Indianapolis’ Week 5, AFC South matchup in Jacksonville will be without a lot of offensive star power.

The Jaguars and Colts officially ruled a combined six starters out in the hours before kickoff Sunday, including four key offensive contributors, tight end Evan Engram on Jacksonville’s side and quarterback Anthony Richardson, running back Jonathan Taylor and center Ryan Kelly on Indianapolis’.

Find Jacksonville and Indianapolis’ inactive lists for Week 5 below.

Jaguars inactive list

Analysis: Jaguars starting tight end Evan Engram (hamstring) will miss his fourth consecutive game, despite his return to practice in a limited capacity this week. Brenton Strange will likely start in his place.

Jacksonville safety and special teams ace Daniel Thomas entered the weekend questionable with a hamstring injury and is inactive for Week 5.

Notably not on the Jaguars’ inactive list are starting linebacker Devin Lloyd (knee) and safety/nickel cornerback Darnell Savage Jr. (quadriceps), who Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson on Friday said he expected to return from injury this week.

Savage, a March free-agent signee by Jacksonville, returns to the lineup following three games of absence. Lloyd missed Week 4 against Houston after appearing on the injury report that Thursday.

Colts inactive list

  • QB Anthony Richardson
  • RB Jonathan Taylor
  • WR Anthony Gould
  • OT Blake Freeland
  • C Ryan Kelly
  • DE Kwity Paye
  • CB Kenny Moore II

Analysis: Colts starting quarterback Anthony Richardson and center Ryan Kelly were officially deemed inactive Sunday morning, joining three fellow starters, running back Jonathan Taylor, defensive end Kwity Paye and nickel cornerback Kenny Moore, in being out of Sunday’s matchup.

Seventeenth-year NFL quarterback Joe Flacco will start in place of Richardson at quarterback for Indianapolis.

Playing for the injured Deshaun Watson with Cleveland last year, Flacco threw for 311 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against the Jaguars in a 31-27 Browns victory in Week 14.

Jaguars star DE clears concussion protocol, will play vs. Colts

Jaguars star DE clears concussion protocol, will play vs. Colts

Jaguars star defensive end Josh Hines-Allen cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol on Saturday and will play against the Colts Sunday in Week 5, the club announced.

Hines-Allen entered concussion protocol after exiting Jacksonville’s Week 4 loss to Houston, following a collision during a six-yard rush by Texans running back J.J. Taylor.

After practicing in a limited capacity on Thursday and Friday, the Jaguars gave Hines-Allen a questionable status for Week 5 on their final injury report. He no longer carries a status into Sunday’s game.

Hines-Allen has recorded 12 total tackles including one for loss, one sack, two defended passes and six quarterback hits through four games this season, after signing a five-year, $141.3 million contract extension with the Jaguars in April.

Through 78 career appearances with Jacksonville, Hines-Allen has compiled 264 tackles with 54 for loss, 46 sacks, two interceptions, 10 defended passes and nine forced fumbles.

The Jaguars and Colts’ Week 5, AFC South matchup is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

Report: Jaguars TE Evan Engram ‘not tracking to play’ vs. Colts

Report: Jaguars TE Evan Engram ‘not tracking to play’ vs. Colts

Jaguars tight end Evan Engram is “not tracking to play” in Week 5 when Jacksonville hosts Indianapolis, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, “barring something unforeseen.”

Engram has been unavailable since hurting his hamstring in the hours before kickoff in Week 2 when Jacksonville hosted Cleveland. He practiced for the first time since the injury this week, participating in a limited fashion daily.

While he appears unlikely to suit up against the Colts, Engram’s progress this week is a good sign ahead of the Jaguars’ trip to London for Weeks 6-7, when they will play the Chicago Bears on Oct. 13 and the New England Patriots on Oct. 20.

Engram caught one pass for five yards against Miami in Week 1. Since joining Jacksonville in 2022, he has logged 188 receptions for 1,734 yards and eight touchdowns.

Second-year Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange, who has caught eight passes for 96 yards and one touchdown this season, is positioned to start if Engram can not play.
