The Jacksonville Jaguars placed safety Andrew Wingard on injured reserve Monday due to an abdominal strain. The injury was one he was dealing with prior to Week 5’s game against the Houston Texans, however, he re-aggravated in the early stages of Sunday’s game.

With the Jags placing Wingard on IR, he’ll now have to sit out for three games, which means he can’t return until the Jags’ Week 9 game against the Texans because their bye week falls on Week 8.

Wingard, who is one of the Jags’ most reliable special teams aces, had to start in three games for the Jags with starting safety Jarrod Wilson going on IR after Week 1’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. Wingard will head to IR with 25 tackles, two pass breakups, and a pick with 2020 being his second season.

With Wingard going on IR, Brandon Watson and Daniel Thomas are the Jags’ backup options. They also have veteran Doug Middleton on practice squad if needed for a promotion.

Jags downgrade DE Josh Allen to OUT vs. Texans with a knee injury

The Jags sustained a huge blow to their chances to beat the Texans Week 5 as Josh Allen has been ruled OUT.

After not being able to practice all week with a knee injury, the Jacksonville Jaguars officially ruled defensive end Josh Allen OUT Saturday afternoon for Week 5’s game against the Houston Texans. This news comes after Allen was ruled questionable along side several others on the final injury report Friday.

Allen’s absence is a huge blow to the Jags’ struggling defense, which hasn’t been able to generate much of a pass rush this season and has allowed a league-high completion rate of 77% against them. It also doesn’t help that the defense will be going up against one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the NFL in Deshaun Watson, who has been an unstoppable force against the team.

With Allen now out of the lineup, first-round pick K’Lavon Chaisson will be called on to step up in his place and will likely earn his first career start. The rookie will come into Week 5 with seven total tackles to his name and a sack. He’s also managed to register two quarterback hits over the span of Weeks 1-4.

It also wouldn’t be surprising to see Dawuane Smoot receive an increase in snaps to help keep Chaisson fresh. Smoot, who currently is in his fourth season,  will enter Sunday’s game with four total tackles this season (one of which is a TFL) in addition to one quarterback hit.

Jags place LB Quincy Williams, safety Jarrod Wilson back on active roster from IR

The Jags’ final injury report for Week 5 has a lot of fans concerned, however, the team is getting some healthy bodies back from IR, too.

After both players were designated to return from injured reserve recently, the Jacksonville Jaguars have officially elevated linebacker Quincy Williams and Jarrod Wilson to their active roster.

Additionally, the team also utilized a standard elevation roster slot to elevate defensive lineman Caraun Reid from practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

The Jags’ transactions come after they had a lot of players on their injury report Friday, specifically on the defensive side. With that being the case, most expected them to make some elevations Saturday to prepare for an important divisional game against Houston.

Wilson’s addition is the biggest out of the three because the team will be getting back one of their initial starters in him. He was placed on IR after Week 1’s game against the Indianapolis Colts after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Williams was a player the Jags placed on IR before Week 1 as he sustained a core muscle injury during training camp and had to have surgery for it. He was one of the Jags’ 2019 third-round selections and ended up starting in eight games despite struggling at the weak-side linebacker position. That said, many are excited for his return to the field as he brings experience to the defense and could be a tremendous help on special teams.

Reid’s addition appears to be to give the Jags some depth on the defensive line. The team had defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale (ankle) surface on the final injury report as questionable, so Reid could be taking his spot in the lineup Sunday if needed.

Jags Week 5 final injury report: Jack, Henderson, Allen all ruled questionable

The Jags had three defensive staters surface in the status column of their final injury report for Week 5.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense has already struggled and that could be the case Week 5 against the Houston Texans. The unit could be without starters CJ Henderson (shoulder), Josh Allen (knee), and Myles Jack (ankle), after all three surfaced on the final injury report as questionable.

Joining them ass the only other player on the final injury report was defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale, who also was ruled questionable.

Henderson and Jack both sustained their respective injuries in Week 4’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, causing both to exit the game before it could end.

In addition to Henderson’s injury, nickelback D.J. Hayden also sustained a hamstring injury last Sunday, leaving the secondary without two key members. Hayden was eventually place on injured reserve Wednesday, which means he’ll miss three games at the least.

With both Hayden and Henderson sidelined in Sunday’s game, Sidney Jones and Chris Claybrooks took snaps on the perimeter and Tre Herndon was moved to the nickelback spot. Defensive coordinator Todd Wash indicated that the lineup would probably remain the same Sunday with Hayden on IR and Henderson fighting to return.

As for Jack, Dakota Allen will be the player to play in his place if he can’t suit up. Allen replaced him Sunday and was able to garner six total tackles in the process.

Another key takeaway from the injury report was that center Brandon Linder and left tackle Cam Robinson weren’t on it as both were listed for knee injuries earlier in the week. That means the Jags will finally have their full starting offensive line as Linder missed Weeks 3-4 and Robinson exited Week 5’s game in the second half.

Jaguars sign PK Jon Brown to practice squad

The Jags sustained another injury at kicker and signed Jon Brown to their practice squad as a result.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ struggles to keep their kickers healthy continued this week as they had to place Aldrick Rosas on injured reserve off their practice squad Friday. Taking his place will be a new signing, Jon Brown, who previously played for the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers.

Brown went undrafted in 2016 after initially going to Kentucky to play soccer then transferring to Louisville as a junior to make a switch to football.

Brown’s signing is the fourth the Jags have made at the kicker position since training camp ended. They initially signed rookie Brandon Wright to their practice squad for an emergency if Josh Lambo sustained an injury. That’s exactly what happened Week 3 before the Jags’ game against the Miami Dolphins as Lambo was placed on injured reserve with a hip injury. Wright was then called up from the practice squad, but exited Week 3 with a groin injury.

After Wright’s injury the Jags signed both Rosas (to practice squad) and Stephen Hauschka (to the active roster). However, Hauschka was inactive Week 4 with a knee injury, making Rosas the option against the Bengals.

The Jags have one more week before Lambo can return because Week 5 will be his third week on injured reserve. Hauschka will be the one taking his place after practicing in full and being left off the status column of the final injury report.

Jaguars Thursday injury report: Brandon Linder upgraded to full participation

The Jacksonville Jaguars had many positive changes to their injury report Thursday on both sides of the ball. For the offense, that included center Brandon Linder, who was upgraded to full participation for the first time since his Week 2 knee injury.

Linder’s progress is huge for the Jags with him being the offensive line’s best player and leader. It also should only help the Jags’ run game, which will be going against a Houston Texans run defense that is last in the league and has allowed an average of 181.8 yards a game.

The other notable from the offensive line who made progress in practice was left tackle Cam Robinson, who exited Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a knee injury. With the final injury report coming up on Friday, it will be interesting to see if he’s bumped up to full, which would likely lead to a probable designation.

The Jags also had some notable pass catchers on offense on the injury report in Laviska Shenault Jr. (hamstring) and Tyler Eifert (neck). Both were ruled limited, which marked an upgrade in status for Eifert.

On defense, the Jags upgraded notable starters Myles Jack (ankle) and CJ Henderson (shoulder) to limited participation. Both didn’t participate in practice Wednesday after exiting Week 4’s game against the Bengals with their respective injuries.

There was no change in status for Jags defensive end Josh Allen, who didn’t practice for a second straight day. With the Jags’ pass-rush already struggling, the team would be in bad shape without him Sunday, which is why Friday is a very important day to monitor him.

Linebacker Quincy Williams (full/ core muscle) and safety Jarrod Wilson (limited/ hamstring), who’ve been designated to return from injured reserve, didn’t have a change in status but could be veering towards activation. Jags coach Doug Marrone told the media that Wilson in particular had a “good possibility” to be activated, which would give the Jags a starter back in their lineup.

Jags designate safety Jarrod Wilson to return from injured reserve

The Jags could be getting a starter back in their lineup soon as Jarrod Wilson was designated to return from injured reserve.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had some injuries pile up on the defensive side during Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals as notables Myles Jack (ankle), CJ Henderson (shoulder), and D.J. Hayden (hamstring) exited the game before it could end. As a result, it appears the unit might limp into Week 5’s AFC South matchup with the Houston Texans, which could end up being a huge problem.

However, there could be help on the way in terms of getting a healthy body back in the lineup as safety Jarrod Wilson was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday. The news comes after he was placed on IR before Week 2’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Under the new rules for IR, a player must sit out for three games. That said, in Wilson’s case, he became eligible for a return after Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals as he missed Weeks 2-4.

With Wilson’s designation now in effect, the Jags have 21 days to officially activate him to their main roster. That opportunity might come this week with all of the injuries the Jags are dealing with and the inexperience they have within the secondary.

When asked about Wilson, coach Doug Marrone told the media that he has a good chance to return this week against the Houston Texans.

Wilson’s return would be more than welcomed as he’s started in 19 games for the Jags and has participated in 64 while accumulating 123 total tackles. That would instantly make him the most experienced member of the secondary when looking at the team’s initial starting group that includes himself, Josh Jones, Tre Herndon, and CJ Henderson.

Jaguars place CB D.J. Hayden on injured reserve

The Jags placed one of their defensive leaders on IR Wednesday, putting an already inexperienced secondary in a tricky situation for Week 5,

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed nickelback D.J. Hayden on injured reserve after the veteran exited Week 4’s game agains the Cincinnati Bengals with a hamstring injury. The decision comes as Hayden was listed on Wednesday’s injury report and coach Doug Marrone stated that he wasn’t confident in Hayden’s ability to play Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Hayden’s injury came during the second half of Sunday’s game. He had to be helped off the field by a pair of team trainers and was unable to put weight on his hamstring. Once he exited the game, Tre Herndon kicked in to the nickelback position and Sidney Jones played on the outside alongside Chris Claybrooks (for CJ Henderson’s injury).

Herndon will likely be the one to once again play in Hayden’s spot Week 5. The Jags could also play Josiah Scott at the position as he was believed to be Hayden’s future successor at the nickelback spot when drafted in April.

With the team placing Hayden on IR, he won’t be eligible to return to the field until three games have elapsed. That means he can’t return until after the Jags’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Nov. 1.

Jags promote 3 players from practice squad for Week 4 game vs. Bengals

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they promoted veteran safety Doug Middleton from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday afternoon. They also utilized their two additional game day spots to elevate offensive lineman KC McDermott and kicker Aldrick Rosas to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Both safeties Andrew Wingard (core muscle) and Brandon Watson (knee) were listed on this week’s injury report, but practiced in full on Thursday and Friday. While both were left off the status column, it appears the Jags’ staff wanted to be safe and promoted Middleton to have a healthy body at the position.

McDermott’s promotion makes sense with the Jags being down one offensive lineman Sunday. Of course, that player will be team captain and center Brandon Linder, who was ruled out Friday with a knee injury. Veteran Tyler Shatley will be playing in Linder’s spot and McDermott will be on the sideline for depth purposes.

As for Rosas, it feels like his addition may be a sign that Stephen Hauschka might not be ready to go Sunday. He was listed on the injury report dating back to Wednesday with a right knee injury and was ruled questionable on the final list.

As the New York Giants kicker from 2017-19, Rosas brings three years of experience with him and has hit 82.7% (75-of-62) of his career field goals. As for his extra point percentage, his career number is at 91.5%, missing just eight of his point after attempts (86-of-94).

Jags Week 4 final injury report: Chark good to go vs. Bengals, Linder ruled OUT

The Jaguars will have D.J. Chark Jr. back on the field Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, which will be a huge help on offense.

The Jacksonville Jaguars only ruled two players out for their Week 4 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, but unfortunately one of them was starting center Brandon Linder (knee). The other player was defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale (ankle), who was activated off the Jags’ practice squad this week.

Sunday’s game will be the second one that Linder has missed this season after he sustained his knee injury in the third quarter of the Jags’ Week 3 game against the Tennessee Titans. Tyler Shatley replaced him from that point and will be the one to start in his place Sunday.

The most notable player on the injury report, D.J. Chark, was a full participant in Friday’s practice and was removed from the list which means the Jags will have their best offensive weapon back. That will be huge for Gardner Minshew II in particular, who clearly missed his No. 1 target last Wednesday against the Miami Dolphins.

Another noteworthy name that came up in the status column for the Jags was kicker Stephen Hauschka, who just signed with the team this week. He was limited Thursday and Friday with a right knee injury and ruled questionable for Sunday’s game. If he can’t suit up, the Jags have former New York Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas on their practice squad this week and he can be activated if needed.
