Report: Jets QB Mike White to miss Week 16 vs. Jaguars

Jets QB Mike White suffered three rib fractures and will be out Thursday vs. the Jaguars, says Ian Rapoport.

Hours ahead of a Week 15 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, there was some breaking news about the quarterback situation of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ next opponent, the New York Jets.

The Jets are set to turn back to Zach Wilson on Sunday, and aren’t expected to have Mike White any time soon. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, White suffered three rib fractures during New York’s 20-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills last week.

The injury is projected to keep White out “at least two weeks,” according to Rapoport, and that includes the Thursday Night Football matchup in Week 16 against the Jaguars.

Wilson, 23, was the second pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, taken one selection after the Jaguars took Trevor Lawrence. After throwing nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions as a rookie, Wilson was benched after seven games this season with four touchdowns and five interceptions.

New York was 5-2 in Wilson’s seven starts due mostly to a defense that is third in the NFL in yards allowed.

White threw three touchdowns and two interceptions in his three starts before suffering his injury against the Bills. He only missed a handful of snaps despite his rib fractures and was replaced in the lineup during those plays by Joe Flacco.

Jaguars rookie OLB Travon Walker has high-ankle sprain

Travon Walker is “day-to-day” with his high ankle sprain, says Doug Pederson.

Jacksonville Jaguars pass rusher Travon Walker is “day-to-day” after an MRI showed the rookie has a high ankle sprain, according to coach Doug Pederson.

Walker, who turns 22 on Sunday, suffered the injury at some point during the second half against the Tennessee Titans. It ended somewhat of a breakout performance for the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, who forced a turnover early in the game with a strip-sack.

After the game, Walker wasn’t wearing a boot when he exited the locker room. However, the Jaguars have been conservative on the injury front, keeping running back Travis Etienne Jr. out for almost an entire game after he was cleared to return, and keeping safety Andre Cisco out the last two weeks.

Through 13 games of his rookie year, Walker has 3.5 sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble.

Behind Walker is former first-round pick K’Lavon Chaisson, who was recently activated from the injured reserve after missing eight weeks due to a meniscus injury. Chaisson played only eight defensive snaps in the Jaguars’ 36-22 win over the Tennessee Titans.

The Jaguars could also use Arden Key or Dawuane Smoot at outside linebacker if Walker is held out against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15.

Travon Walker got an MRI on his injured ankle Monday

Doug Pederson said Monday that he was waiting for the results of an MRI on Travon Walker’s ankle.

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie outside linebacker Travon Walker got an MRI on his injured ankle, according to coach Doug Pederson.

Pederson said Monday afternoon that he hadn’t yet received the results of the test, so he didn’t have an update on Walker. The first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft exited the Jaguars’ 36-22 win over the Tennessee Titans in the second half and was ruled questionable to return.

According to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Walker wasn’t wearing a boot on his ankle when he left the locker room after the game Sunday.

Walker, who turns 22 this week, began his season with a sack and an interception in his regular season debut, but he’s had a mostly quiet rookie year. Against the Titans, he had one of the best performances of the season, recording a strip sack early in the game that set up the Jaguars’ first touchdown of the day.

Through 13 games, Walker has 3.5 sacks and eight quarterback hits.

Trevor Lawrence active vs. Titans, Andre Cisco out again

Trevor Lawrence is active against the Titans, but Andre Cisco is out again.

It was expected, but the Jacksonville Jaguars made it official an hour and a half before kickoff: Trevor Lawrence will play against the Tennessee Titans in Week 14.

Lawrence suffered a sprained toe last week in a 40-14 loss to the Detroit Lions. While the injury didn’t keep him out of action in the second half against the Lions, he was held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday. Lawrence was listed as questionable in the team’s final injury report, but there was optimism from both the quarterback and Jaguars coaches that he’d be ready to go Sunday.

The bad news for Jacksonville is that safety Andre Cisco is out of action for the second straight week:

Cisco was listed as questionable after he was limited in all three practices this week, but coaches sounded optimistic that the second-year safety would be back in action after missing Week 13.

For the Titans, there weren’t many surprises Sunday as the team already ruled out six players in their final injury report.

The notable omission from that list is Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, who was listed as questionable, but is now slated to play against the Jaguars.

Trevor Lawrence: ‘If I can, I’ll be out there’ vs. Titans

Trevor Lawrence hopes to play in Week 14, but he’s not making any promises.

Jacksonville Jaguars second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence says he intends on playing against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, but he also isn’t making any promises.

“That’s the plan,” Lawrence told reporters Wednesday after sitting out the day’s practice. “All I can do is take it day by day, and if I can, I’ll be out there.”

Lawrence, 23, is dealing with a sprained toe that he suffered on the final play of the first half during the Jaguars’ 40-14 loss to the Detroit Lions. After initially fearing he injured his knee — which he said Wednesday was the biggest injury scare he’s ever had playing football — Lawrence returned in the second half against the Lions.

“I’m feeling better today than I was Monday and yesterday,” Lawrence said. “A little bit of the soreness is going down a little bit. Obviously, still sore and taking it day-by-day, but fortunate, for sure. I feel pretty good.

“After the game and Monday, it was really sore. It stiffened up on me, but I kind of dodged a bullet for sure on that hit.”

Lawrence hasn’t missed a game in his NFL career and was spotted Tuesday wearing a protective shoe to immobilize his injured toe. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said he’s hopeful Lawrence will be able to practice this week, but he’d be comfortable with the quarterback missing all three practices and still playing Sunday if he’s healthy enough.

Through 12 games this season, Lawrence has thrown 17 touchdowns with six interceptions and has a passer rating of 92.8.

Trevor Lawrence spotted with ‘protective shoe’ over injured toe

Trevor Lawrence is dealing with a sprained toe and was spotted in a “protective shoe,” as Doug Pederson called it.

Trevor Lawrence escaped serious injury when he was twisted down on a sack in Week 13, but the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback is dealing with a toe injury that has his status for Week 14 in question.

On Tuesday, Lawrence was spotted wearing a covering on his left foot in a photo of him at a Jacksonville-area salon.

A day later, Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said that an MRI showed it’s a sprained toe for Lawrence and he explained the covering on the quarterback’s foot.

“It’s not a cast, it’s more of just a protective shoe is really what it is,” Pederson said Wednesday. “It’s really just to keep his foot immobilized right now just for healing.”

Lawrence will sit out practice Wednesday, according to Pederson, and could miss more time ahead of a matchup against the AFC South-leading Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

“We’ve still got several days before the game, but he’s tough and he’ll do everything he can — I know — in his power to try to be out there. But we’ll take it day by day,” Pederson said.

Lawrence hasn’t missed a game so far in his NFL career. After suffering his injury on the final play before halftime Sunday, Lawrence returned in the third quarter without missing a snap.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence to get MRI on injured foot, toe

Trevor Lawrence’s knee is OK, but he’ll undergo tests to see if his foot and toe avoided damage as well.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence avoided what looked like it could’ve been a season-ending knee injury Sunday, but he’ll undergo an MRI to determine if there was any damage elsewhere.

“It’s actually the foot and the toe area,” Jaguars coach Doug Pederson told reporters Monday. “Knee was checked out today, he’s good there. No issues. Obviously sore from the hit, but we’re still getting some more testing done on his foot and toe area.

“I think things are trending in the right direction, but I won’t have a definite until I get the report later today on his foot and everything.”

Pederson said that testing will include an MRI of Lawrence’s injured left foot.

Lawrence, 23, initially grabbed the back of his knee after he was awkwardly twisted to the ground on a sack.

After being attended to by medical staff on the field, Lawrence walked off the field under his own power. While he stayed in the locker room immediately after halftime, Lawrence eventually jogged to the sideline before the Jaguars’ first possession of the second half and stayed in the game.

In addition to 179 passing yards, Lawrence was healthy enough to take off and run multiple times in the second half, finishing the game with 32 rushing yards.

Lawrence has not missed a game in his young NFL career, although he did briefly exit a November 2021 game against the Buffalo Bills due to an ankle injury.

Trevor Lawrence says foot was hurting, but ‘not anything serious’

Trevor Lawrence says his foot hurt a bit Sunday, but his injury isn’t serious.

Jacksonville Jaguars fans feared the worst when quarterback Trevor Lawrence went down and reached for the back of his knee after an awkward sack Sunday. Then there came a couple sighs of relief.

First, when Lawrence managed to walk off the field under his own power. Then there was even more relief when Lawrence jogged out of the tunnel early in the third quarter and played the second half.

“I thought it was my knee at first, and then my foot a little bit was hurting too,” Lawrence told reporters after the game. “Luckily, nothing serious. We’ll have to see how I feel tomorrow. I’m going to be a little sore but thankful it’s not anything serious. I was worried it was my knee, but I don’t think it is. I feel better than I thought I would.”

In addition to finishing with 179 passing yards and a touchdown in the blowout loss to the Detroit Lions, Lawrence showed his mobility wasn’t compromised when he scrambled multiple times in the second half. Lawrence finished with 32 rushing yards on four carries.

Last week, the Jaguars were cautious with Travis Etienne Jr. after the second-year back suffered a foot injury. While he was cleared to return, Jaguars coaches opted to keep him on the sideline during the team’s comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The Jaguars weren’t as cautious with Lawrence, despite the lopsided score.

“Took a look at him at halftime and our doctors did a great job of making sure that there was no risk for further injury,” Pederson explained. “And he was good, he even – I saw him and he said he was ready to go and did a nice job.”

Lawrence now has 17 touchdowns on the season with six interceptions.

Jacksonville Jaguars second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence was injured on the last play of the first half of a Week 13 game against the Detroit Lions.

Lawrence, 23, was twisted down on a sack and stayed down on the field as time ran out in the second quarter. After an extended period, Lawrence was able to stand and walk off the field on his own.

After halftime, Lawrence exited the tunnel and jogged back to the sideline where he warmed up and continued playing in the second half.

While the Jaguars went to halftime trailing 23-6 against the Lions, Lawrence was playing well early with 124 passing yards on nine completions. On his first drive back in the game, Lawrence led the Jaguars down the field for their only touchdown of the day.

Lawrence struggled in the month of October, but has been playing the best football of his career in the last few weeks. In three games in November, Lawrence threw six touchdown passes with zero interceptions, and completed 76.9 percent of his passes. On Sunday, he added another touchdown without throwing an interception.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard is the Jaguars’ backup quarterback. He started 12 games in four years with the 49ers, but has only thrown two passes in his two seasons with the Jaguars. Beathard warmed up in the second half, but didn’t play until the final minutes of the blowout loss.

Travis Etienne ‘insists’ on playing, but Jaguars will lean on medical staff

Travis Etienne Jr. wants to return to action, but Jaguars coaches say that’s up to the medical staff.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. has made it clear that he feels ready to return to action after missing almost all of Week 12 due to a foot injury. The coaches aren’t making any guarantees, though.

“He certainly insists he’s playing,” Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor said of Etienne on Thursday. “We’re going to trust [vice president of player health Jeff Ferguson] and the medical staff in that department, but that’s something we’ve gone through, it feels like a couple times this season, where a guy is kind of a day-to-day decision.

“We continue to build the plan in hopes that that guy is there, but obviously there’s contingencies for if that guy’s not going to make it.”

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson expressed a similar sentiment Wednesday, telling reporters that the team doesn’t want to put Etienne back in the lineup until the staff is “sure he’s 100 percent.”

Etienne, 23, had only two carries against the Baltimore Ravens before he exited to the locker room. He was ruled questionable to return, but stayed on the sideline for the rest of the game while JaMycal Hasty took the majority of the snaps in the Jaguars backfield.

After the game, Pederson said that Etienne could’ve returned to the game, but Jaguars coaches elected to keep the back on the sideline out of an abundance of caution.

Etienne has 728 rushing yards, 202 receiving yards, and four touchdowns so far this season. He missed his entire rookie season due to a Lisfranc injury that required surgery to repair. Pederson said Monday that Etienne’s current injury is to the same foot, but is unrelated to the Lisfranc joint.
