Jaguars vs. Colts: S Darnell Savage Jr. expected to play

Jaguars vs. Colts: S Darnell Savage Jr. expected to play

Jaguars safety Darnell Savage Jr. has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and is expected to play in Jacksonville’s season finale against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, head coach Doug Pederson shared on Friday.

Savage suffered a concussion in Jacksonville’s Week 16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and did not play in the Jaguars’ Week 17 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

“He cleared earlier in the week, practiced the last couple of days, been looking good and feeling good. So, expect him to play,” Pederson said.

Savage missed four games earlier this season, from Weeks 2-5, with a quadriceps injury.

After signing a three-year, $21.8 million free agent contract with Jacksonville in March, Savage has recorded 42 total tackles including two for loss, one interception and six defended passes in 12 starts this season.

“[He] brings leadership, brings a veteran presence,” Pederson described Savage Friday. “When the season began, the expectation was he was going to play our nickel spot. And then we moved him back to safety, where he’s obviously comfortable back there and brought some stability there.

“Just again, another guy who loves ball … he leads by example but he also leads verbally in the locker room, too. So, he’s good to have on the team, been a bright spot, been someone that I think has really kept things going in the right direction.”

Jaguars vs. Colts is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. The game will air on FOX.

Jaguars linebacker Ventrell Miller is unlikely to play in Jacksonville’s season finale against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday as he continues to recover from an ankle injury, head coach Doug Pederson revealed on Friday.

Miller hurt his ankle in Jacksonville’s Week 16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and did not play in the Jaguars’ Week 17 victory against the Tennessee Titans.

“Ventrell Miller, ankle, probably not going to make the game,” Pederson said. “We’ll see today but I doubt he makes it.”

A fourth-round pick by the Jaguars in the 2023 NFL draft, Miller missed his rookie season with an Achilles injury and made his pro debut this year. He has appeared in 15 games, including nine starts, and recorded 80 total tackles including four for loss, one forced fumble and three defended passes.

Titans downgrade two starters to out vs. Jaguars

Titans downgrade two starters to out vs. Jaguars

The Tennessee Titans downgraded starting running back Tony Pollard and safety Amani Hooker from questionable to out against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 17 on Saturday.

Pollard (ankle) and Hooker (shoulder) were both listed as questionable on Tennessee’s final injury report. Pollard was reportedly expected to play through his injury but came down with the flu after the Titans practiced on Friday.

Pollard has rushed for 1,017 yards and five touchdowns over 238 carries this season and added 41 receptions for 238 yards. Hooker has recorded 71 total tackles with four for loss, five interceptions, nine defended passes and two forced fumbles.

Tennessee previously ruled starters, right guard Dillon Radunz and kicker Nick Folk, out against Jacksonville on Friday. Starting wide receiver Tyler Boyd is questionable to play.

The Titans signed kicker Matthew Wright, guard Arlington Hambright and linebacker Raekwon McMillan to their active roster from their practice squad, and elevated offensive lineman and safety Gervarrius Owens from their practice squad after ruling Pollard and Hooker out.

The Titans released cornerbacks Tre Avery and Gabe Jeudy-Lally from their active roster in corresponding moves.

Jaguars vs. Titans is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

Jaguars’ Savage, Miller not expected to play vs. Titans

Jaguars’ Savage, Miller not expected to play vs. Titans

The Jaguars do not expect to have starting safety Darnell Savage Jr. and rotational linebacker Ventrell Miller available against the Tennessee Titans in Week 17, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson revealed on Friday.

Neither Savage nor Miller have practiced this week as they nurse injuries suffered against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16.  Savage is in the concussion protocol; Miller hurt his ankle.

“Darnell Savage, he’s in the protocol. Wouldn’t expect him, I don’t expect him. Ventrell, same thing, ankle, don’t expect him to play,” Pederson said.

Savage has recorded 42 total tackles including two for loss, one interception and six defended passes in 12 starts this season, his first with the Jaguars after signing a three-year, $21.8 million free-agent contract with the club in March.

Miller, a second-year pro, has tallied 80 tackles with four for loss, three defended passes and one forced fumble in 15 games including nine starts this year.

Pederson previously ruled Jaguars starting left tackle Walker Little out against the Titans on Monday.

Doug Pederson: Jaguars OT Walker Little likely out for season

Doug Pederson: Jaguars OT Walker Little likely out for season

Jaguars starting left tackle Walker Little’s 2024 season is likely over due to a high-ankle sprain, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson told reporters on Thursday.

Pederson on Monday deemed Little out of Jacksonville’s Week 17 matchup with the Tennessee Titans. He hurt his ankle against the New York Jets in Week 15 and aggravated the injury against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16.

“Walker Little will be out with the ankle, he’ll probably miss the rest of the year,” Pederson said Thursday.

Pederson said third-year Jaguars offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen will fill in for Little at left tackle for the rest of the season.

Little started eight games at left tackle and made 15 appearances with the Jaguars in 2024, his fourth season with the club. He took over as Jacksonville’s starting left tackle in Week 8; former starter Cam Robinson was traded to the Minnesota Vikings the next week.

Little received a three-year, $45 million contract extension from the Jaguars on Dec. 1., roughly one month after taking over the first-team role.

Jacksonville’s second-round, No. 45 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Little has made 55 appearances and 25 starts with the Jaguars.

Jaguars LT Walker Little ‘probably’ out vs. Titans in Week 17

Jaguars LT Walker Little ruled out vs. Titans in Week 17

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson on Monday said starting left tackle Walker Little will “probably” miss Jacksonville’s Week 17 home matchup with the Tennessee Titans after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the club’s 19-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Little exited the game on Jacksonville’s first offensive possession. He entered the matchup with an ankle injury that he suffered against the New York Jets but was able to play through.

“Walker looks like he’s going to miss this week. High ankle, so he’ll probably be out,” Pederson said.

Little took over as Jacksonville’s starting left tackle in Week 8 and signed a three-year, $45 million contract extension with the club on Dec. 1. Since his second-round, No. 45 overall selection by the Jaguars in the 2021 NFL draft, Little has made 55 appearances and 25 starts.

Two Jaguars starters exit injured vs. Raiders

Two Jaguars starters exit injured vs. Raiders

Jaguars starters, offensive tackle Walker Little and safety Darnell Savage Jr., exited Jacksonville’s Week 16 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders after suffering injuries in the first half.

Little suffered an ankle injury on Jacksonville’s first offensive possession of the game. He entered the contest with a hurt ankle, which he experienced but played through against the New York Jets in Week 15.

Savage was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion during the second quarter.

Jacksonville considered both players questionable to return against Las Vegas at press time.

Savage, who signed a three-year, $21.8 million free-agent contract with Jacksonville in March after five seasons with the Green Bay Packers, has logged 42 total tackles including two for loss, one interception and six defended passes in 11 games with the Jaguars.

Las Vegas led Jacksonville 13-7 late in the second quarter at press time.

Pederson: Four injured Jaguars ‘all fine’ entering Raiders matchup

Pederson: Four injured Jaguars ‘all fine’ entering Raiders matchup

Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson on Friday considered the four starting Jaguars who have been limited in practice throughout Week 16 — tight end Brenton Strange, offensive tackle Walker Little, and guards Ezra Cleveland and Brandon Scherff — “all fine” ahead of the club’s Sunday road matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Strange (shoulder) and Little (ankle) suffered their injuries in Jacksonville’s 32-25 loss to the New York Jets in Week 15 but were able to finish the game. Cleveland (knee) and Scherff (knee/shoulder) have played through their hurts for multiple weeks.

Strange took over as Jacksonville’s starting tight end against New York after Evan Engram was ruled out for the season with a labrum injury that required surgery. Strange has logged 34 receptions for 329 yards and two touchdowns in 14 appearances, including 11 grabs for 73 yards versus the Jets.

The Jaguars and Raiders’ Week 16 matchup is scheduled to kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.

Surgeries completed for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, TE Evan Engram

Surgeries completed for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, TE Evan Engram

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and tight end Evan Engram had successful surgeries to address season-ending injuries this week, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson said on Wednesday.

Lawrence underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder, which he suffered in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

After missing two games due to the injury, Lawrence returned to play in Week 13 against Houston but sustained a concussion on an illegal hit by Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair.

The combination of injuries led Jacksonville to place Lawrence on its injured reserve on Dec. 4, ending his season. He cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol on Sunday, allowing him to schedule his shoulder operation for Tuesday.

Engram hurt his shoulder against the Tennessee Titans in Week 14, which he was originally expected to play through, per Pederson. However, testing revealed Engram suffered a labrum injury that required surgery, which he had on Monday.

Like Lawrence, Engram was moved to the Jaguars’ injured reserve on Saturday, ending his campaign.

“Everything was positive in both players’ cases and just now looking forward to recovery time,” Pederson said Wednesday.

Lawrence finished his season having completed 172-of-284 passing for 2,045 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions, and rushed for 119 yards and three scores, in 10 starts.

Engram, who also missed Weeks 2-5 with a hamstring injury, caught 47 passes for 365 yards and one touchdown in nine starts.

While it is unclear if Lawrence and Engram will be cleared to participate in organized team activities (OTAs), which occurred in May this past offseason, Pederson anticipates both players recovering fully from their surgeries by sometime this spring.

“Don’t know that yet. It’s hard to put a timeframe on it, you don’t want to rush it,” said Pederson. “I guess the thing is too, in both cases, they’re not long-term, lengthy-type surgeries [or] recovery time. So, at some point this spring they’ll be ready to go.”
