Giants vs. Seahawks: 3 reasons for optimism in Week 5

The New York Giants visit the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon in Week 5, and here are three reasons for optimism.

The New York Giants will travel across the country on Sunday to take on the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.

The Giants are coming in after nine days of rest having last played on Thursday Night Football where they suffered a 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Seahawks, however, will be entering the game on short rest after dropping their first game of the season on Monday Night Football against the Detroit Lions.

With the status of star receiver Malik Nabers up in the air, the Giants come in as nearly touchdown road underdogs.

With the Giants desperately needing a win, here are three reasons for optimism.

Seahawks on short rest

The Seahawks are coming off their worst performance of the season after losing in blowout fashion in primetime.

The Giants having an extra four days rest should give them a slight advantage going into Sunday afternoon. Plus, the Seahawks had to travel back from Detroit after their Week 4 matchup, so their air miles are piled up a bit (granted, so will New York’s).

The Giants should come in confident that Seattle is on short rest following a blowout road lost in prime time.

Time of possession

The Giants dominated time of possession last week and were able to keep the game close against the Cowboys. Heading into Week 5, the Giants rank ninth in time of possession, while the Seahawks rank 17th overall in that stat.

Obviously, Brian Daboll would like that trend to continue.

If the Giants can control the time of possession and put a few touchdowns on the board, they will have a good chance of winning Sunday.

An improved offensive line

As bad as the Giants have played this year, it’s hard not to look at the improvement along the offensive line and be proud that the Giants are finally playing behind a more than serviceable group.

Why does that matter in this matchup? Well, in last year’s matchup, the Giants surrendered 10 sacks and Daniel Jones was uncomfortable all game long.

This offensive line has played well as a unit and has been able to give more time in the passing game. this may be a crucial difference on Sunday.

Gimme Him: One player Giants would steal from Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have a deep and talented roster but given the New York Giants’ cornerback concerns, they would steal this player.

The New York Giants (1-3) will visit the Seattle Seahawks (3-1) at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington on Sunday afternoon in a Week 5 battle.

That, of course, provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal from the Seahawks’ roster in search of depth and/or talent upgrades for Big Blue.

Right out of the gate, two former Giants catch the eye: Defensive lineman Leonard Williams and safety Julian Love.

Either player would be an immediate defensive upgrade and provide the locker room with valuable leadership. However, those ships have sailed and general manager Joe Schoen apparently didn’t see the value in either.

Another former Giant — quarterback Geno Smith — stands out as well, but we’re not going down that road. Although it is frustrating to see so many ex-Giants playing at such a high level away from East Rutherford.

Running back Kenneth Walker is also an impressive option but his struggles in pass protection cause us some pause. Not to mention, the Giants have much more pressing needs in other areas.

Ultimately, we’re going to steal cornerback Tariq Woolen, who, through four games, is playing at a very high level. He’s allowed just five receptions on 12 targets for 41 yards and no touchdowns while recording nine tackles, three passes defensed, and one interception.

Woolen would provide the Giants with another outside corner, which they desperately need due to a lack of depth and the underperformance of Deonte Banks this season. And while he may not be one of the top shutdown corners in the league, it would still vastly improve the Giants’ defense.

What are your thoughts, Giants fans? Would you pick Tariq Woolen or would you steal an entirely different player from the Seattle Seahawks?

Giants vs. Cowboys Player of the Game: Malik Nabers

The New York Giants fell to the Dallas Cowboys, 20-15, on Thursday Night Football and rookie WR Malik Nabers is our Player of the Game.

The New York Giants were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys, 20-15, on Thursday Night Football at MetLife Stadium and rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is our Player of the Game. Again.

The game was tight all night but the Giants could not finish drives resulting in no touchdowns and field goals would not cut it against the defending NFC East champions.

With this loss, the Giants fall to 1-3 and last in the division. They will have 10 days to rest up before they travel across the country to play the undefeated Seattle Seahawks.

For the fourth straight week, Nabers is the pick for Player of the Game. The sixth overall pick did not have a perfect game as he finished the day with one drop. However, outside of those plays, Nabers was unguardable as he showcased his elite route-running skills.

The LSU product closed out Week 4 with 12 catches for 115 yards as he tied the record for the most catches by a rookie in their first four career games.

Nabers now has 39 catches for 386 yards through four outings and has made a case for himself as a top 10 receiver in the NFL. His connection with Daniel Jones continues to grow and together they should keep the Giants competitive.

Giants vs. Cowboys: NFL experts make Week 4 picks

See who experts around the league are taking in a Week 4 matchup between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys.

The New York Giants (1-2) will host the Dallas Cowboys (1-2) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Thursday night.

Opening the week, the Giants were listed as 4.5-point home underdogs and that spread has only gotten worse with Dallas -6 as of this writing.

Let’s take a look at who some of the experts and insiders around the league are taking in the Week 4 matchup:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable)
Dan Graziano (ESPN) Cowboys N/A
Matt Bowen (ESPN) Cowboys N/A
Seth Wickersham (ESPN) Cowboys N/A
Pete Prisco (CBS) Cowboys 27-19
John Breech (CBS) Cowboys 27-20
Jordan Dajani (CBS) Cowboys 27-17
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Cowboys 24-20
Lorenzo Reyes (USA TODAY) Cowboys 21-20
Bill Bender (Sporting News) Cowboys  27-17
Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News) Cowboys  23-20

There’s no love for the Giants this week but after dropping 13 of their previous 14 games against Dallas, can we really fault the above panel for unanimously choosing the Cowboys?

On the plus side, there isn’t a blowout predicted. The most lopsided scores come from Jordan Dajani and Bill Bender, who see the Giants losing by 10.

Other experts and analysts from around the league concur with this 10-person panel. 95 percent are picking the Cowboys to pick up a primetime victory on Thursday night, per NFL Pickwatch.

Fans are slightly less confident in Dallas and we do mean slightly. Just six percent are choosing the Giants in an upset at MetLife Stadium.

Giants vs. Cowboys: 3 best prop bets for Week 4

The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys face off this Thursday night at MetLife Stadium. Here are three prop bets to consider.

The New York Giants (1-2) host their long-time rivals, the Dallas Cowboys (1-2), at MetLife Stadium on Thursday Night Football.

There’s a lot of wagering action going both ways in this game but there are some prop opportunities for bettors to take advantage of, per BetMGM.

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Wan’Dale Robinson OVER 34.5 receiving yards (-110)

Dallas will be falling all over themselves trying to keep up with Malik Nabers, which leaves Wan’Dale Robinson to do what he does best — run the horizontal route tree. Daniel Jones checks down to Wan’Dale often, averaging eight targets per game. He should easily surpass the over on yards if he gets that this week.

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Dak Prescott OVER 23.5 completions (-120)

With the Cowboys struggling to run the football, averaging a measly 73 yards per game on the ground so far this year, and the Giants have been staunch against the run. That means Dak Prescott will take to the air. The Giants have allowed 19, 23, and 21 completions in their three games thus far. Dak should get that, and then some.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Daniel Jones OVER 32.5 rushing yards (-110)

As stated, Dallas is vulnerable to the run and Daniel Jones has accounted for 23.5 percent of the Giants’ carries this season. In Week 1, Deshaun Watson rushed for 39 yards on five attempts and Lamar Jackson had 87 on the ground against them last week. It seems mobile QBs are having success versus them and Jones, if anything, is mobile.

Giants vs. Cowboys: 3 reasons for optimism in Week 4

The New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night in Week 4, and here are three reasons for optimism.

The New York Giants will battle their division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 4 of the season.

Despite the two teams having the same record at the bottom of the NFC East, the Giants are currently home underdogs entering the game.

While the Giants are fresh off their first win of the season this past Sunday in Cleveland, the Cowboys have dropped two straight.

With both teams looking to get back to .500, here are three reasons for optimism for the Giants ahead of Week 4.

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Giants revamped offensive line

To say the Giants’ offensive line has improved this season would be quite an understatement. We may just be three weeks into the season but the offensive line has played very well as a complete unit.

The offensive line has three new starters and a new offensive line coach which is all contributing to the best line play we have seen in probably over a decade.

The Giants’ O-line will have their hands full with Micah Parsons on Thursday. However, they should feel prepared coming off their matchup against Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett.

Momentum

The Cowboys may be the better team on paper but the Giants are coming off their first win in which their defense finally showed up in a big way — something we expected ahead of the season, especially the defensive line.

The Giants recorded 36 pressures on Sunday and getting the pass rush going could be just what the doctor ordered come Thursday. If they can make Dak Prescott uncomfortable, that would certainly help their chances of winning.

On offense, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has a new sense of confidence with the offense now running through his favorite target, rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers.

The momentum is something that could play into the Giants’ favor on Thursday.

Ken Blaze-Imagn Images

Giants’ rushing attack

Despite having a fumble in each of the last two games, Devin Singletary has been impressive over the first three weeks of the season.

Dallas has been near the bottom of the league against the run this year and this could be something head coach Brian Daboll will look to exploit early and often on Thursday.

Dallas ranks dead last in opponents’ yards per rush, rushing yards per game, and rushing touchdowns per game.

It will be telling if the Giants rely heavily on the ground attack in this one.

Giants vs. Cowboys: 3 causes for concern in Week 4

The New York Giants square off in a Thursday night battle against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. Here are three reasons for concern.

The New York Giants will host the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 4 of the NFL season.

The Giants are fresh off their first win of the year this past Sunday in Cleveland. Meanwhile, Dallas just dropped their second game in a row, so both teams will enter Thursday’s divisional matchup with an identical 1-2 record.

Despite the game being at MetLife Stadium, the Giants have opened up as home underdogs against their rivals. This will be the first of the two matchups between the two teams this season, the second one coming on Thanksgiving Day.

The game certainly picked up a little more steam with the Giants winning on Sunday and coming in at 1-2 instead of 0-3.

With the division rivals facing off on Thursday, here are three causes for concern.

Rey Del Rio/Getty Images

Trevon Diggs

Trevon Diggs is a ballhawk who has a knack for forcing turnovers against the Giants. In Diggs’ last five games against the Giants, he has three interceptions and a forced fumble.

With the Giants going to Malik Nabers early and often, the Cowboys are likely going to try and get a takeaway off of Nabers. New York will have to be careful and Head Coach Brian Daboll may have to get creative in getting Nabers the ball without risking a turnover.

Daniel Jones had a good day on the stat book in Week 3 against the Browns. However, he had an interception on the team’s first offensive play of the game that was called back due to a penalty, and two other balls that easily could have been picked off — one being Nabers’ most impressive catch of the day, stealing the ball from the defender’s hands.

The Giants must protect the ball on Thursday at all costs.

Jason Miller/Getty Images

Giants secondary

The Giants came into the season with a belief in Deonte Banks as a strong No. 1 cornerback after an impressive rookie season.

Banks was torched by Amari Cooper and looked lost on the field on Sunday. And the Cowboys rank first in the league in passing yards per game.

The road will not get any easier on Thursday as CeeDee Lamb will visit MetLife Stadium. Lamb plays well against the Giants and Banks will have to step up to slow him down.

Lamb has seen at least nine targets in four of his last five games against the Giants and with the Cowboys’ running game not what it used to be, he will likely see a heavy workload on Thursday.

Nic Antaya/Getty Images

Special Teams

The Giants have had issues on special teams the last few weeks. In Week 2, they lost their kicker, Graham Gano, on the first play of the game.

With Gano on IR, the Giants signed Greg Joseph to fill in. Joseph naturally continued the Giants special teams woes on Sunday by missing a kick with three minutes left in the fourth quarter, which would have made it a two-possession game.

Head coach Brian Daboll was noncommittal on Joseph being the kicker in Week 4 on Monday despite the game just a few days away.

The Giants have also had their fair share of issues at both kick returner and punt returner over the last two weeks, including a fumble on the opening kickoff this past Sunday which quickly put Big Blue behind in the game Sunday.

The Giants will need to clean up the special teams miscues going into Thursday.

Gimme Him: One player Giants would steal from Cowboys

The New York Giants are in desperate need of improvements at cornerback, so stealing this player from the Dallas Cowboys was an easy choice.

The New York Giants (1-2) will host the Dallas Cowboys (1-2) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Thursday night in a Week 4 primetime battle.

That, of course, provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal from the Cowboys’ roster in search of depth and/or talent upgrades for Big Blue.

You always want to take linebacker Micah Parsons in this scenario but with Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns under contract, it’s more of a want than an actual need.

There are also guards Tyler Smith and Zack Martin, but they fall into the same category as Parsons.

Truth be told? The Cowboys’ overall roster isn’t as alluring as it once was. With the Giants having addressed several areas of need and Dallas doing very little this past offseason, the pickings are slim — much slimmer than they’ve been in recent years.

We could go the easy route and take quarterback Dak Prescott but even that doesn’t feel like a game-changer at this point. So, instead, we’ll upgrade the cornerback position with the theft of Trevon Diggs.

Diggs is not off to the best start this season and has struggled mightily against the run, but he would still be a major upgrade alongside Deonte Banks, who also struggled against the Cleveland Browns in Week 3.

The two-time All-Pro earned his highest overall grade in 2023 (80.7) and is likely to rebound throughout this season. Still just 26 years old, Diggs is in the prime of his career and the Giants would benefit greatly from his tight coverage and ball-hawking ability.

What are your thoughts, Giants fans? Would you pick Trevon Diggs or would you steal an entirely different player from the Dallas Cowboys?

Giants vs. Browns Player of the Game: Malik Nabers

The New York Giants defeated the Cleveland Browns, 21-15, at Huntington Bank Field on Sunday and WR Malik Nabers is our Player of the Game.

The New York Giants defeated the Cleveland Browns, 21-15, at Huntington Bank Field on Sunday and rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is our Player of the Game.

The Giants are now 1-2 as they gain a win against a playoff team from last season. For the second week in a row, the offense scored three touchdowns, and the defense allowed under 20 points. While playoffs may not be in the future this season there are some clear bright spots for the future of this organization.

The biggest bright spot for Big Blue is Nabers. For the third straight week, he is the Player of the Game.

At this point, Nabers is far and away the Offensive Rookie of the Year. After finishing with eight catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns in this outing, the rookie now has 23 catches for 271 receiving yards and three touchdowns this season.

The LSU product dazzled in Week 3  with his elite ball skills, Mossing a defender on one errant pass and making a twirling grab in the end zone at the end of the first half to put the Giants up two scores.

Jones and Nabers appear to be forming an amazing connection and will look to continue it next week against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.
