Transfer receivers are making a difference for the Bulldogs

The UGA football passing offense has had some questions but Dominic Lovett and Rara Thomas have helped answer those.

The Georgia Bulldogs have seen multiple receivers leave the program over the past couple of seasons with Jermain Burton going to Alabama and Adonai Mitchell going to Texas. Those guys are having good years, but the transfers the Bulldogs have taken in have done great work as well.

Dominic Lovett and Rara Thomas have been welcome additions to the Georgia passing game with productive years so far. The Dawgs’ passing game was a bit of a concern with these new guys coming in and Carson Beck at the helm, but a dominant win over Kentucky has quieted a lot of critics.

Lovett, the Missouri transfer, started off the season battling for the No. 1 wide receiver spot as Ladd McConkey was out early in the year. He’s become the reliable hands target over the middle of the field and he’s compiled 22 catches for 210 yards.

Thomas, the Mississippi State transfer, had his best game as Bulldog against Kentucky with an incredible toe tap touchdown. He’s found his niche as a big play threat with a talent for high-pointing the ball. Thomas has caught 14 balls for 230 yards and one touchdown.

Although Bowers and McConkey are the names that fans will recognize catching the ball, Lovett and Thomas have quietly found themselves as consistent receivers in the fold and they could become X-factors as the Bulldogs face off against tougher foes in late October and November.

Additionally, Georgia may look to the transfer portal again to replenish the wide receiver room as the Bulldogs have just two commitments from wide receivers in the class of 2024.

Home field advantage: Who was the most dominant at home in 2022?

These teams were the best at defending the home turf in 2022.

The game of college football has a massive following and a large part is due to the traditions and pageantry of the sport. Home games in college football are just at another level than we see around most of the NFL.

Sometimes they get a little too rambunctious, just look at the Tennessee vs Ole Miss game last year. Does anyone need some mustard?

Regardless of how that game turned out, there is just something about watching your favorite team at home. The rankings were determined by the team’s record at home and the average margin of victory in those games.

These five teams have the easiest path to the playoffs in 2023

Which contenders have the easiest path to the CFP in 2023? CSW breaks down five teams who have a great shot based on the schedule.

When it comes to getting to the College Football Playoffs, some teams have easier paths than others.

This will change in the 2024 season when the field expands to 12 teams, giving all five power conferences an automatic bid for champions. Six more teams will have at-large bids and the highest-ranked Group of Five team will also get their ticket punched to the new-look playoff.

However, this upcoming season it will be the top four teams heading to the annual tournament. Last season it was two Big Ten teams, one from the SEC, and one from the Big 12 battling it out for the trophy. It was the Georgia Bulldogs who reigned supreme for the second straight season.

Following the completion of spring football and the second transfer portal window now closed, we take a look at our easiest path to the playoffs in 2023.

Post spring composite rankings have Georgia, Michigan at the top

Check out where your favorite team ranks in the composite spring rankings.

Heading into the 2023 college football season, most of the headlines will involve the Big Ten and SEC conferences. In our composite rankings, those two conferences make up the top five. Overall, the Pac-12 had the second most teams appear.

Here is the full breakdown of teams by conference:

SEC 8
Pac-12 6
Big Ten 5
Big 12 5
ACC 3
G5/Independents 4

The four polls that make up the post-spring football composite rankings:

Using the four polls we had ties at the No. 3, No. 12, No. 21, No. 27, and No. 30 spots among the teams listed. The full post-spring rankings are listed below, ties listed in alphabetical order.

Auburn walks it off in series opener with Georgia

Auburn trailed Georgia by three runs heading to the 9th inning, but a walk-off walk in the 11th inning sealed the come-from-behind win.

It took 11 innings, but it all came down to a walk in the Auburn Tigers series-opening 7-6 win over the Georgia Bulldogs.

“I didn’t ask for a lot this week,” head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] said following the game. “I just asked for these guys to kind of connect with one another. I asked the guys what it really means to stay in the fight and to keep punching back. We thought we took more punches than we really delivered last week. That ninth is a good symbol of hanging around and staying in there.”

[autotag]Tommy Vail[/autotag] got the start for Auburn. He pitched five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, walking two batters and striking out seven. [autotag]Will Cannon[/autotag] ended up with the win, pitching the final three innings. He allowed one run off of one hit, walked two batters and struck out three.

Kolten Smith got the start for Georgia. He tossed 3.1 innings, allowing one run off of two hits. Kyle Greenler ended up with the loss for the Bulldogs in 0.2 innings of work, allowing one run off of two hits and walking two batters, one of them being [autotag]Carter Wright[/autotag] to end the game.

Georgia took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. [autotag]Ike Irish[/autotag] got the scoring started for Auburn in the bottom of that inning with a double that scored [autotag]Cole Foster[/autotag]. [autotag]Connor Green[/autotag] tacked on another run for the Tigers in the fifth inning with a solo shot to left field.

Georgia added another run in the top of the sixth inning. [autotag]Bryson Ware[/autotag] hit a solo home run in the bottom of that inning to bring the Tigers within one.

The Bulldogs added on two more runs in the top of the ninth inning to extend their lead to three. Auburn refused to go down quietly, however. Ware doubled down the right-field line to score Foster and [autotag]Kason Howell[/autotag]. [autotag]Justin Kirby[/autotag] reached on an error that allowed Ware to score.

The next run came in the bottom of the 11th inning when Wright was walked,  allowing Irish to score.
