Andre Dillard will likely make his first start at right tackle on Sunday, as the Eagles will probably be without Lane Johnson, who is still in the concussion protocol.

According to the NFL’s return-to-participation protocol, Johnson must rest “until his signs and symptoms and neurologic examination, including cognitive and balance tests, return to baseline status.”

If Johnson can’t go, the rookie Dillard will slide over to right tackle.

1. Carson Wentz can learn a thing or two his counterpart

Russell Wilson is at the top of the MVP race right now and he’s carried the Seattle Seahawks to the brink of a playoff berth. On the season, Wilson has gone 224 of 327, for 2,737 yards and 23 touchdowns With two interceptions. Wilson also has accounted for 256 yards and three touchdowns on the ground as well. Wilson loves to get outside the pocket, he’s efficient and knows when to get rid of the football and most importantly, he puts his receivers in an excellent position to make plays.

Eagles DC Jim Schwartz praises Seahawks WR DK Metcalf for his ability to make plays downfield

Jim Schwartz raves about DK Metcalf’s ability to make plays downfield

The Philadelphia Eagles defense will have their hands full on Sunday when the Seattle Seahawks visit Lincoln Financial Field. The Seahawks bring in MVP candidate Russell Wilson, receiver Tyler Lockett and rookie sensation DK Metcalf.

Metcalf was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round (64th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. The Seahawks rookie has been impressive this season, posting 35 catches for 595 yards and five touchdowns.

Metcalf is averaging 17 yards per reception as well, numbers unheard for a rookie. During his weekly press conference, Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz praised Metcalf’s ability to make plays downfield.

Schwartz also praised Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, saying the MVP candidate “can be as good as anybody in the league dropping back and throwing the ball. The comments about Metcalf cut deep in Philadelphia when you realize JJ Arcega-Whiteside was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round (57th overall) and seven spots ahead of Metcalf.

Arcega-Whiteside has 3 catches for 43 yards on the season to show for it. In Schwartz’s defense, he was asked about Metcalf in regards to questions about the opposition’s offense, but it still must be hard to conjure up the notion that the Eagles blew it and selected the wrong wide receiver.

Eagles’ TE’s could have huge day vs. Patriots with Patrick Chung ruled out

Patriots rule out safety Patrick Chung vs. Eagles

[jwplayer A3qs8Nwq]

The Philadelphia Eagles were already starting to become tight end dominant in the passing game, and with Patriots star safety Patrick Chung being ruled out for Sunday, 12 personnel could be the formation of choice.

New England ruled out Chung for Sunday’s road game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to injuries to his heel and chest.

Veteran safety Duron Harmon will get the start in his place.

With the Eagles having the best tight end tandem in the NFL, Bill Belichick and company can expect to see a ton of Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert on the field together.

During the last meeting between these two teams, Ertz had seven catches for 67 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles thrilling Super Bowl LII victory against New England.

With Alshon Jeffery also out of this game, it’ll be pertinent for Carson Wentz to develop a rhythm with both guys early on, helping to open up things for JJ Arcega-Whiteside and Miles Sanders.

Expect New England to dabble with a different scheme on Sunday, entrusting All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore with the job of slowing down Zach Ertz. Until Nelson Agholor, Jordan Matthews or Arcega-Whiteside can prove themselves as viable threats on the outside, Gilmore will likely be best served to shadow Ertz on Sunday and forcing someone else on the Eagles offense to beat New England.

That man could end up being Goedert, who has the skill level to take advantage of any mismatch presented to him.

Jordan Howard ruled out vs. Patriots; Jay Ajayi could play significant role

Eagles running back Jordan Howard not expected to play vs. Patriots;

The Philadelphia Eagles have a huge matchup with the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon and they’ll like play without running back Jordan Howard. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Howard is expected to miss the contest with a shoulder injury.

With Howard out, Jay Ajayi will make his season debut and likely play a significant role in the contest.

The Eagles had Ajayi in for a workout on Friday morning and the move is added depth for a position that was starting to become the strength of the team.

Philadelphia head coach Doug Pederson said that Howard sustained his injury late in the Eagles’ 22-14 win over the Chicago Bears on Nov. 3.

Ajayi missed most of the 2018 season, playing just four games for the Eagles before suffering a torn ACL. Ajayi had 592 yards on 105 carries and four touchdowns in 11 games with the Eagles since 2017.

It’ll be the first and possibly the last matchup between Carson Wentz and Tom Brady. With Bill Belichick being one of the most brilliant minds in the sport, here are four things to watch when the Eagles have the football.

1. Miles Sanders vs. Dont’a Hightower

The Eagles need a big game out of Sanders and if this season has been any indication, it’ll likely happen in the passing game. The Patriots are stout on defense but can be had with the right formations or matchups. Sanders on any of the Patriots linebackers makes for a matchup that favors the Eagles. In the running game, if Jordan Howard can’t play, look for the Eagles put Sanders in positive situations as a runner, especially after the Ravens averaged 5.96 yards-per-attempt on the ground in their win over New England.

Eagles Injury Report: Alshon Jeffery out vs the Patriots; Jordan Howard listed as questionable

Alshon Jeffery out vs the Patriots; Jordan Howard listed questionable

The Philadelphia Eagles released their final injury report in advance of the teams’ matchup with the New England Patriots and Alshon Jeffery will not be able to play.

Nigel Bradham will miss another game with an ankle injury, while Jason Peters looks to return to the Eagles lineup.

On Friday, the Eagles announced that Darren Sproles would miss the remainder of the season with a hip injury.

Jordan Howard is dealing with a “stinger”, while Alshon Jeffery is dealing with a nagging ankle injury.

The Eagles wide receivers on Sunday will be Nelson Agholor, Jordan Matthews, Mack Hollins, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside.

At running back, the Eagles will have Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, Ajayi and maybe De’Angelo Henderson.
