Eagles sign TE Richard Rodgers to a deal

Eagles sign TE Richard Rodgers to a deal

With Zach Ertz dealing with a rib injury and likely to miss the season finale against the New York Giants, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed tight end Richard Rodgers for the remainder of the season.

Rodgers was selected in the third round (98th overall) by the Green Bay Packers in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Rodgers signed a two-year deal with the Eagles last spring but was subsequently waived during training camp after suffering an injury.

5 stats that prove Carson Wentz is elite and just starting to hit his stride as a QB

5 stats that prove Carson Wentz is elite and just starting to hit his stride as a QB

Carson Wentz has been one of the best at his position since entering the league in 2016 and despite the heavy criticism he’s faced over the past two years, the numbers show that the Eagles star is elite and just hitting his stride.

Wentz is considered a top-10 talent, but numbers talk and the Eagles star is on a career arc that could have him in Canton when things are all said and done.

The topic of conversation is sensitive for Eagles fans and Wentz pundits, but here are five stats that prove Wentz is elite and just getting started.

***

1. Wentz is making history

Despite missing eight games the last two years and with one game still to go in 2019, Wentz already has the 9th-most TD passes in NFL history by a QB in his first four seasons. He’s now fifth in team history with 96 touchdown passes and can overtake Donovan McNabb in the next four years if he stays healthy.

Wentz has 35 career interceptions.

Wentz is the only QB in NFL history to record 95+ passing touchdowns and 35-or-fewer interceptions in their first 54 career games.

Of the 10 quarterbacks currently ahead of him in touchdown passes over their first four seasons, only Russell Wilson has also thrown fewer than 44 interceptions in his first four years, and only Wilson and Dan Marino have a higher passer rating.

After Sundays win over the Cowboys, Wentz is the first quarterback in NFL history to record 30+ completions and 0 interceptions in 3 consecutive games.

Ranking the Eagles potential playoff opponents for Wild Card weekend

Ranking the Eagles potential playoff opponents for Wild Card weekend

The NFC playoff picture is starting to clear up, as the 49ers, Saints and Green Bay Packers are all working to secure the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage.

The Baltimore Ravens control the AFC, but in the NFC, there are a handful of scenarios still at play in the NFC East and NFC West.

Here is a look at the standings ahead of Monday’s matchup between the Packers and Minnesota Vikings:

NFC

Division Leaders

1. San Francisco (12-3, clinched playoff berth)

2. New Orleans (12-3, clinched NFC South)

3. Green Bay (11-3, clinched playoff berth)

4. Philadelphia (8-7)

Wild Card

5. Seattle (11-4, clinched playoff berth)

6. Minnesota (10-4, clinched playoff berth)

In the Hunt

7. Dallas (7-8)

The Cardinals victory over the Seahawks in Seattle presents three opportunities for Green Bay to secure the No. 1 seed:

1. Packers beat Vikings On Monday Night Football
2. Packers beat Lions on Sunday
3. Seahawks beat 49ers on Sunday night

Regardless of Monday night, if San Francisco can beat Seattle next Sunday night on NBC, they’ll be the top seed in the NFC.

If the Seahawks beat the 49ers on Sunday night, Green Bay will be the top seed, and the Vikings could find themselves heading to Philadelphia.

We ranked the Birds potential opening-round opponents with the top team as the easiest Wild Card opponent and the third team presenting the most difficult challenge.

1. San Francisco 49ers

The NFC’s top team all season, we’re banking on an experienced team folding under the pressure and the weather that Lincoln Financial Field can offer. Jimmy Garoppolo has never started a playoff game and first-year playoff starters have about a 30% chance of being successful.

The 49ers defense is heralded, but they play into the Eagles strength on the offensive line and San Franciso has given up almost 40 points a game over the last three outings.

Both Seattle and San Francisco would also be traveling across country on a short week, and possibly have to play on Saturday night.

The Philadelphia Eagles win over the Dallas Cowboys in their Week 16 matchup put the Birds firmly in the driver seat for an NFC East title.

The Birds can now win the NFC East with the following two scenarios taking place:

1. The Eagles beat the Giants in Week 17.

2. The Eagles lose to the Giants in Week 17, and the Cowboys lose to Washington in Week 17.

Winning the NFC East locks the Eagles into the No.4 seed with nowhere else to go, but there are several scenarios that can dictate their opponent for Wild Card weekend.

Per Deniz Selman, the Eagles’ first-round opponent on Wild Card weekend will be either the Vikings, Seahawks, or 49ers.

Green Bay could get a rematch with the Eagles as well if they lose two straight and fell to the No. 5 seed.

If the Vikings win out and Green Bay wins their Week 17 game against Detroit, Minnesota will travel to Philly for Wild Card weekend.

If the Vikings lose on Monday night football or in Week 17, the Eagles will host the loser of the Seahawks-49ers Sunday Night Football til in Week 17.

Eagles-Giants, Cowboys-Redskins both flexed to 4:25 pm for Week 17

Eagles Week 17 game vs. Giants flexed for TV Ratings

The NFL loves drama and it loves postseason drama even more.

With the NFC East far being decided, the league took the steps of flexing both the Eagles and Cowboys games from the early slot, to 4:25 pm, setting up melodrama that leads into a huge Sunday night football telecast.

The Eagles control their own destiny after Sunday’s 17-9 win over the Cowboys and a win in New York would give them the NFC East.

Dallas will be scoreboard watching and an Eagles loss combined with a Dallas win would give Jerry Jones and company the division title.

Either way, the NFL will make sure fans from both teams sweat this out together.

Eagles open as early 4.5-point road favorites over Giants in Week 17

Eagles open as early 4.5-point road favorites vs. Giants in Week 17

The playoffs started three weeks ago for the Philadelphia Eagles, so while other teams have been preparing for the NFL Draft or making vacation plans, the Birds have been hell-bent on winning four straight division games.

After defeating the Dallas Cowboys 17-9 at home on Sunday, the Eagles sit just one win away from an NFC East title and a third straight playoff birth.

Even as Week 16 is just coming to a close, the Birds are looking ahead to the season finale.

According to  to odds from BetMGMthe Eagles are early 4.5-point road favorites over the New York Giants.

The Eagles need a win over the Giants or a Cowboys loss to advance to the postseason.

The Philadelphia Eagles just released their list of inactives as both Derek Barnett and Avonte Maddox will play against the Dallas Cowboys.

Miles Sanders will again start at running back with Howard likely out.

Maddox, who was listed as questionable with a knee injury, was a late addition to the injury report.

With Lane Johnson ruled out, Halapoulivaati Vaitai will start for a second consecutive game at right tackle, where he’ll need to account for Cowboys star pass rusher, DeMarcus Lawrence.

Derek Barnett active vs. Cowboys after missing last 2 games with an ankle injury

The Philadelphia Eagles are getting back one of their most valued pass rushers, as Derek Barnett is active and will play against the Dallas Cowboys after missing the last two games with an ankle injury.

Barnett was a limited participant in Friday’s practice, a good sign of progress for the third-year defensive end.

He’ll look to add some pressure and disruption to the Cowboys offense and in particular, Dak Prescott.
