Former Bucs starting QB benched by new team after poor run

In the case of Jameis Winston, his post-Bucs career has not seen the same sort of regrowth from which Baker Mayfield has benefited.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had some quarterback turmoil over the course of franchise history. They have had the like of Steve Young, Trent Dilfer, Jeff Garcia, Brad Johnson, Tom Brady, and Baker Mayfield. They have gotten some serious talent in a variety of ways, but one player who was the number one pick didn’t pan out the way they had hoped.

In the case of Jameis Winston, his post-Bucs career has not seen the same sort of regrowth from which Baker Mayfield has benefited.

Jameis Winston had been starting in place of the injured Deshaun Watson for the Cleveland Browns this season. After throwing for 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, the Browns decided that Winston’s season was over. They announced on Tuesday that they would be making a quarterback change and going to Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Winston will be a free agent at the end of the year, so he can pursue another chance to kick-start his career. For now, though, he will be serving as a backup once again for the final three games of the year.

Former Bucs LB Devin White a healthy scratch for Eagles in Week 2

Bucs former first rounder Devin White hasn’t had the greatest start to his Eagles career thus far, as he was a healthy inactive in Week 2.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to let linebacker Devin White test free agency in early March of this year. This comes after a disgruntled White played under the fifth-year option in 2023 following a trade request due to not receiving a contract extension.

The former fifth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft decided to take a chance on himself, signing a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles worth up to $7.5 million. When the news initially broke, many believed the Eagles had gotten a steal of a player, as they seem to always gather the top talent available, whether it be in free agency or the draft.

Two weeks into the 2024 NFL season, things haven’t gone the way White likely thought. He missed the Eagles’ season opener in Brazil due to an ankle injury and didn’t travel with the team. White was a healthy inactive in their Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. Instead of starting next to Nakobe Dean, Zack Baun has overtaken the role White was supposed to have.

The Bucs have KJ Britt and rookie SirVocea Dennis rotating in next to Lavonte David. So far, White’s absence hasn’t affected the defense as much.

Former Bucs LB Devin White loses starting spot with new team

The former Bucs first-round pick at linebacker left this offseason when he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The former Bucs first-round pick at linebacker left this offseason when he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was expected to make his season debut last week but was out due to injury. His replacement, Nakobe Dean, played extremely well in his place.

Due to that, a change is already happening in Philadelphia.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio announced on Wednesday that Dean would remain the starter, and White would be moving down the depth chart. The former LSU Tiger has had his fair share of struggles since his rookie season. All of which are on the field, but he has been unable to get in a groove regarding coverage assignments.

Todd Bowles’s defense is similar to Vic Fangio’s in that it demands a lot from everyone on defense. When someone on the roster isn’t able to handle their assignments, they will find someone that does. Unfortunately for him, the Eagles have already found that replacement while he heals up and works his way back into the fold.

Former Bucs RB Leonard Fournette visiting the Indianapolis Colts

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Super Bowl-winning running back Leonard Fournette is visiting with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Super Bowl-winning running back Leonard Fournette is visiting with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the news of the visit.

Fournette started his career in Jacksonville with the Jaguars when he was drafted fourth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. He played with them for three seasons before signing with the Buccaneers just before the start of the 2020 season.

Fournette spent three seasons with the Buccaneers from 2020 to 2022. He joined the team with other veteran players after the signing of Tom Brady that offseason and won Super Bowl LV. During his time with the team, he ran for 1,847 yards and found the endzone 17 times.

After the 2022 season, Fournette signed with the Buffalo Bills and played in two games with them.

He could now find himself back in the AFC South if he does sign with them. Whether or not he would get much work behind Jonathan Taylor is yet to be seen.
