Matthew Judon with Falcons’ second pick-six against Giants

The Falcons were having a pick party against Drew Lock and the Giants

The remedy for any illness is playing the New York Giants in the NFL.

On Sunday it was the Atlanta Falcons who drew the Big Blue straw.

Michael Penix Jr. made his first start and had thrown one pick midway through the third quarter.

However, Drew Lock of the Giants was having no luck finding his team.

He threw a pick to Jessie Bates in the first half and then Matthew Judon came away with a deflected Lock pass and returned it 27 yards for a score.

After Bijan Robinson’s second TD, the Falcons were rolling, 31-7.

The Atlanta Falcons figured to need help from all areas with Michael Penix Jr. making his first start on Sunday against the New York Giants.

Jesie Bates chipped in with a pick of Drew Lock. Bates returned the interception 55 yards to give the Falcons a 10-7 lead after the PAT.

Kirk Cousins’ three touchdown passes have Falcons up on Cowboys

Kirk Cousins and the Falcons were shredding the Cowboys

The Dallas secondary is depleted and Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons are capitalizing.

Despite losing Drake London to a hip injury, the veteran QB has three TD passes midway through the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.

London had a TD grab before going out. Darnell Mooney and Ray-Rayย  McCloud added others as Atlanta led 21-10.

Kirk Cousins with gutsiest call of the season in Falcons’ win

Kirk Cousins with a risky pass that led to the Falcons forcing OT on a field goal as time expired

The Atlanta Falcons needed yards to get Younghoe Koo in reasonable field-goal range.

Problem was they had no timeouts left and there were 12 seconds to go in the fourth quarter Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Short pass to the outside, get out of bounds and give your kicker a chance.

Not a chance if your quarterback is Kirk Cousins.

The veteran found Drake London over the middle for 14 yards and somehow got his team set and spiked the football with one second left.

After Falcons flub, getting called for delay of game, Koo came on and kicked a 52-yard field goal to send the game to overtime tied at 30.

Kirk Cousins TD pass in overtime powers Falcons past Buccaneers

Kirk Cousins completed a monster game with a TD pass in OT to lift the Falcons to 3-2

A game that seemed lost for Atlanta on Thursday night somehow wound up with the Falcons in a tie for first place with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kirk Cousins threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to KhaDarel Hodge on the first drive of overtime as the Falcons stunned the Bucs, 36-30.

Hodge was only in the game because Drake London had been injured on the previous play and had to come out of the game.

Cousins found Hodge, who raced into the end zone for the stunning win.

Cousins had a monster game, completing 42-of-58 passes for 509 yards and four touchdowns.

The reason the result was so surprising is the Falcons seemed headed for defeat when Cousins threw an interception to Lavonte David with 1:52 left.

Tampa Bay was unable to run out the clock as the Falcons called timeouts and the Bucs were called for a holding penalty that took them out of field-goal range.

Cousins led a game-tying drive that featured one of the gutsiest calls of the season. With 12 seconds left, Cousins found London for 14 yards. However, the wideout was tackled in the field of play and Atlanta had used all of its timeouts.

Cousins got the Falcons set at the line and spiked the ball with one second left.

Younhoe Koo, who was 2-for-4 to thatย  point, kicked a 52-yard field goal only after Atlanta had been called for delay of game.

The kick tied the game at 30 and set up the game-winning drive in OT. It covered 70 yards in four plays and only took 1:15.

Both teams are 3-2 after five weeks in the NFL season.

Younghoe Koo kicks the Falcons to victory over the Saints

Younghoe Koo kicked the longest field goal in Mercedes-Benz Stadium history on Sunday with two seconds left to lift the Atlanta Falcons to a 26-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

The field goal from 58 yards eclipsed the mark of 57 at the venue. Koo was 4-for-4 on field-goal attempts that saw the Falcons also score a special teams touchdown and return an interception for a score.

Falcons’ KhaDarel Hodge recovers muffed punt for touchdown

The Falcons capitalized on a Saints special teams gaffe

Rashid Shaheed of the New Orleans Saints made some ill-advised decisions on an Atlanta Falcons punt on Sunday.

First, he decided to try and make a fair catch of the punt by Bradley Pinion inside the five. Maybe he thought the football was going to land and pin the Saints deep.

Then, he failed to secure the football which bounced into the end zone where KhaDarel Hodge fell on it in a scramble for an Atlanta touchdown.

After the PAT, the Falcons led, 7-0.

Falcons honor Apalachee High School shooting victims

Wonderful gesture by the Atlanta Falcons and their players prior to opening their season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

The players will wear Apalachee High School T-shirts during warmups to honor those killed and wounded in the senseless shooting lastw eek at the Georgia high school.

Four were killed and nine wounded in another horrific incident at a school.

2024 record prediction: Atlanta Falcons

We take a loot at the Atlanta Falcons upcoming season and project where they will land at the end of the year.

One of the most buzzworthy teams all offseason, the Atlanta Falcons suddenly find themselves in a make or break season under new head coach Raheem Morris and quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Atlanta sent shockwaves through the league after signing Cousins in free agency to a monster contract, leaving many to presume this Falcons team was pushing all it’s chips on the table over the next few seasons to take advantage of a week division. While Atlanta did have some nice signings in free agency with the likes of Cousins, Rondale Moore (trade), Eddie Goldman, and Kevin King, it’s fair to say their draft left a bad taste in many analysts and fans mouths. A team ready to compete taking what essentially amounts to a backup quarterback at the top of the draft when they are in a win now mode may send the wrong signals to the team, and especially to their newly established starter. The team also failed to address a true pass rusher in the draft and leaves some holes on the defense.

It’s certainly not all bad in Atlanta. Cousins looks to take this offense to a next level with the departure of Arthur Smith, and the talented young playmakers surrounding him look to feast in a new look offense. Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan Robinson should all experience a bit of a rebirth under offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, and the team still boasts one of the most steady offensive lines in the league.

In a weak NFC South the Falcons are primed to make a strong push for the top of the division. Kirk Cousins and these young offensive weapons should be enough to carry this team to success and a playoff birth despite concerns on defense and in the teams overall structure.

Record prediction: 9-8
