Rapper Meek Mill, Dez Bryant place bet on upcoming Cowboys-Eagles faceoff

Once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy, Dez Bryant is putting his coins up in belief of what his former team can and will do in the NFC East.

There’s still two-plus weeks to go, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t already looking ahead to the next time the Cowboys and Eagles square off. Dallas, the reigning division champions, have bounced back from an anemic performance in Week 1 to win two games in a row. The Philadelphia Eagles, after the Miami Dolphins loss on Thursday night, currently stand as the last remaining undefeated team at 3-0.

Both teams have games to play on Sunday with Dallas hosting the Washington Commanders and the Eagles facing upstart Jacksonville, as well as games the following week, but that doesn’t stop those on the outside from looking ahead. That group involves the current king of Philly rap Meek Mill and the Cowboys latest former player ambassador to the streets, Dez Bryant. On Friday the Maybach Music front liner put out a call on Twitter for any and all comers to bet against his hometown Eagles. Bryant quickly put the terms into the atmosphere.

For those who don’t remember, Bryant referenced smoking that Giants pack in predicting a Cowboys’ victory on Monday night. He was right then, and Cowboys fans hope he’s right again.

After Washington, Dallas will travel to take on the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams before traveling to Philadelphia on October 16. There’s a pretty big chance Dallas will either already have, or will be welcoming back quarterback Dak Prescott, who hasn’t played since Week 1. Meanwhile the Eagles are flying high thanks to the rapid improvement as a passer of quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Mill accepted Bryant’s bet and the Cowboys’ all-time touchdown reception leader quickly “locked in” the gentleman’s agreement.

6 best trades in Jerry Jones’ Cowboys history

A lot of talk about the bad trades in Cowboys’ history, but what about the best? No. 1 on the list isn’t the one most expect it to be.

There’s been a lot of talk recently about two of the worst trades in Cowboys history. Whether or not sending two first-round picks to Seattle for Joey Galloway, who tore his ACL in his first game and was the marker for the end of the dynasty, or multiple picks to Detroit for WR Roy Williams was worse, they both rank highly on the list of mistakes by Jerry Jones’ front office.

The Williams trade was followed by a big deal and wasted resources early in Tony Romo’s career. The Galloway trade left Dallas without a first rounder after Aikman retired in a draft where Drew Brees went at the top of the second round. Still other bad trades have happened like jumping up to acquire CB Mo Claiborne. But what about the quality trades that Jones has engineered? Those deserve some spotlight as well.

Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, Dez Bryant go in on joint business venture in fitness

The stars are part of a larger group supporting OxeFit, a company set to compete with Peloton and Mirror with AI-powered fitness gear.

Dak Prescott is making a connection with former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant one more time. This time, though, it’s in the world of business and in particular, high-tech smart gym equipment.

Prescott and Bryant have joined forces (and wallets) with Cowboys players of the past and present by becoming early investors in OxeFit, a Plano-based startup developing AI-powered exercise gear. Jason Witten and Blake Jarwin are also on the investment team, along with Broncos wideout Demaryius Thomas, it was announced Wednesday.

The company disclosed that it had raised $12.5 million, though it is not known how much the players’ group added to that figure.

OxeFit is set to debut its fitness equipment later this year and is expected to compete in the same category as devices like Peloton, Tonal, and Mirror, using physical equipment and software that are connected to one another via a network. The company will use tech tools to track “performance and muscle metrics through motion, providing advanced coaching” directly through the platform, according to OxeFit.

Aimed at elite athletes, fitness clubs, and rehab centers, the gear will combine robotics and artificial intelligence to aid in strength training.

“As a professional athlete currently rehabbing from a significant injury, I see the unbelievable opportunity OxeFit affords athletes and their physicians and trainers to cater activities to their specific needs,” Prescott said in a statement. “I believe OxeFit will change how athletes build strength and rehab from injuries.”

The company says users will also be able to “compete virtually” with each other and even professional athletes online.

Ravens Dez Bryant tweets he’s negative for COVID-19

One of the few things Dallas Cowboys fans had to look forward to down the stretch of a miserable, now 3-9 season was being able to watch former star receiver Dez Bryant. Yes, it would’ve been in the uniform of the Baltimore Ravens, but with a lost campaign most were planning to celebrate any accomplishment from the franchise’s all-time touchdown reception leader, especially if he was able to Throw Up the X one last time.

Unfortunately, a pregame positive COVID-19 test took Bryant off the field during pregame warmups and he was sent home for the game. Bryant was clearly distraught and after tweeting the news to the world, followed it up by proclaiming he was thinking about sitting out the remainder of the season. Well, it turns out that Bryant may have had a false positive result, as the receiver tweeted out Thursday afternoon that he has tested negative in back-to-back tests.

The Ravens, of course, didn’t need Bryant to defeat Dallas 34-17, but he will be a key part of their campaign to return to the playoffs. More importantly though, anyone who can avoid catching the virus that is currently killing thousands of Americans by the day is a blessing. Bryant’s tweet seems to show frustration with the fact he tested positively and was taken out of his opportunity to have a reunion game against his former employer of eight seasons, but in the grand scheme of things, being negative is clearly a good, no great thing.

Cowboys News: Who would trade up for Cowboys pick, Jerry hearts Dez

Jerry Jones praised former Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant on Tuesday. With no team over four wins, the Cowboys can still win the NFC East.

Dez Bryant had a stellar career during his eight years with the Dallas Cowboys and formed a great bond with team owner Jerry Jones. The boss of America’s Team spoke highly of his former receiver on Tuesday ahead of the Cowboys matchup with Bryant’s new team, the Baltimore Ravens next week. The Cowboys suffered a humiliating loss on Thanksgiving, but with no NFC East team over four wins, the division is still winnable.

The Cowboys experience tragedy last week when strength and conditioning coach Markus Paul passed away, and their grieving process is only in its infant stage. Zack Martin and Cam Erving will both miss multiple weeks with injuries, which has forced Joe Looney to be the centerpiece of the offensive line. The coaching staff’s biggest issue, what’s caused Washington to run wild on the Cowboys defense, and a list of teams that could trade up with the Cowboys for a quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft, and more are covered in this edition of the news notes.

Cowboys all-time TD catch leader Dez Bryant almost back in the NFL

Dez Bryant returns to the NFL after a two year hiatus and is expected to join the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.

All the work and preparation has finally paid off for free agent wide receiver and former Dallas Cowboy Dez Bryant as he set to sign with the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.

Bryant has been a free agent since being released by the New Orleans Saints in November of 2018 after he ruptured his achilles in his first practice after signing. Bryant was invited in for a work out by the Ravens in August of this year but left without a deal. The marriage was first hinted at by Josina Anderson today, and was confirmed by Ian Rapoport.

The two sides flirted back in August as well.

The Ravens will officially be Bryant’s third team in his career and joins an already high octane offense. Bryant has caught 73 touch downs in his career with the Cowboys and that currently still remains the current all-time record.

Eventually when Bryant is brought up to the 53-man roster, he will be catching passes from the 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. As a result of this, there will be plenty of opportunities for Bryant to once again, throw up the X.

Romo skipped on ESPN’s NFCE All-Decade team littered with Cowboys

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning takes the top spot from Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys as the NFC East’s all-decade quarterback.

The 2010 portion of the Dallas Cowboys lauded history can be summed up in one word: underwhelming. A roster usually filled with talent constantly underperformed, a description that has become the hallmark of the bygone Jason Garrett era. The club was only able to reach the divisional round three times in 10 years, once by virtue of a wild-card bye, but was never able to reach a championship game.

The NFC East beat writers at ESPN voted on an all-decade divisional team. and it is littered with Cowboys. Of the 25 available spots, 10 of them hail from Dallas. The one player missing is former quarterback Tony Romo, who misses out on the top spot to Eli Manning of the New York Giants.

The difference is in the ring.

Manning captured a Lombardi trophy in 2011 while Romo and the Cowboys made the playoffs in just one season before injuries took over and Dak Prescott ascended. But outside of the improbable 2011 playoff run for the Giants and Manning, there’s no question who played the position at a higher level.

In terms of efficiency, Romo outshines Manning in every respect, boasting superior numbers across the board, image and numbers courtesy of Pro Football Reference.

But while Romo was undoubtedly better when he was available, the problem is he just wasn’t for the last half of the decade. Manning’s pure volume numbers lay waste to Romo, one of the most snake-bitten players of his time. With the Super Bowl acting as a cherry on top, it’s tough to argue against the Manning taking that spot.

The Dallas Cowboys who did make the list:

  • Running back Ezekiel Elliott
  • Wide receiver Dez Bryant
  • Offensive tackle Tyron Smith
  • Center Travis Frederick
  • Guard Zack Martin
  • Tight end Jason Witten
  • Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence
  • Linebacker Sean Lee
  • Linebacker DeMarcus Ware
  • Kicker Dan Bailey

Dez Bryant tweets support of CeeDee Lamb rocking the 88

One of the most misunderstood sentiments around the career of Dez Bryant was that he wasn’t a good teammate, but anyone who has really paid attention knows that is far from the case. Bryant was a Dallas Cowboys fan long before he heard his name called during the 2010 NFL draft and his reverence for the star should be unquestioned. His passion is his defining characteristic, and many unfamiliar with witnessing the such don’t fully grasp how that can manifest itself during stressful situations.

This isn’t to say that every Bryant outburst was well-timed or well-received, just that it came from good intentions. Since being away from football, and now working to come back after two years out of the league, Bryant has spent time on social media being highly supportive of other NFL players, so it should come as no surprise he is extending his best wishes to the newest Cowboys receiver, CeeDee Lamb.

Even as Lamb is now going to wear Bryant’s famed jersey, No. 88, there’s nothing but love emanating from Bryant’s Twitter handle.

There should be no shocker there, but part of Bryant’s signing off on the coronation is the realization that with owner Jerry Jones convincing Lamb to don the 88 (the player originally announced he wanted to wear No. 10) is the fact it means Bryant will not be returning to sport it for the Cowboys.

After suffering an achilles injury trying to mount a comeback with the New Orleans Saints in 2018, Bryant spent 2019 out of football. He’s been training with NFL quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott in an effort to catch the eye of an NFL team this offseason, but with the shutdown of football hasn’t had the opportunity to workout for any coaching staffs.

Hopefully when the country opens back up Bryant will have the chance to latch on and further his career until he is ready to walk away from the game on his own terms.

Dez Bryant works with Prescott, fueling fans eager for a reunion

Free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant worked out with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. The Cowboys are still in the market for a wide out

Free agent wide receiver, and former member of the Dallas Cowboys, Dez Bryant has once again raised plenty of eyebrows with just one sentence on Twitter.

Bryant has been working diligently, trying to mount a comeback bid after being out of the league for the last two seasons. On Thursday, he teased a fan base that includes several followers eager to see him back in a Dallas uniform that he worked out with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

This isn’t the first public appearance for Bryant in hopes to catch the eye of the Dallas front office. On February 20, Bryant worked out with his wide receiver coach and sat down with Cowboys reporter Jane Slater for an exclusive interview. In that interview, Bryant expressed that he would love to play for this year’s Dallas Cowboys team because of the increase of talent on the offensive side of the ball.

Just one day later, Bryant was back on the practice field catching passes from Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes. There is no questioning Bryant’s work ethic along with his desire to be back in the league as he constantly tweeted about his workouts day after day.

Bryant was released by the Cowboys in April of 2018 after playing with them for eight seasons. Bryant was able to play with Prescott in 2016 and 2017 where he compiled over 1,600 yards, along with 14 touchdowns on 119 receptions. Bryant was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2016 while Prescott was his quarterback. He is currently the Cowboys all-time leading receiver in touchdown catches with 73.

It’s no surprise that as NFL free agency moves forward that Bryant is once again trying to make headlines. This tweet also comes a day after Jerry Jones took a chance by signing free agent defensive end, Aldon Smith.

The current Cowboys wide receiver group consists of newly re-signed, Amari Cooper, and Michael Gallup who is entering his sophomore season. Dallas let Randal Cobb walk as a free agent as he was then picked up by the Houston Texans. Tavon Austin still remains without a new contract as well and not much has been said about his status. After that, it remains a bit of a question mark. Cedric Wilson and Devin Smith are on the roster as well, but it seems the Cowboys are in the market for an additional wide receiver. With just one tweet and workout, Dez Bryant reenters the minds of the Dallas Cowboys front office.
