WKU (4-6) vs Charlotte (2-3) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why WKU Will Win

After a massively disappointing start for a program that appeared to be on the rise, it has finally started to have some fun with two straight wins and …

POINTS!

A god of a under play for those who care about point totals, WKU finally busted out in a 38-21 win over FIU a few weeks ago.

Overall, the Hilltopper defense has been strong enough to keep the team in most games, doing a great job in the secondary – for the most part – for a D that’s allowing just 339 yards per game.

Charlotte doesn’t have a pass rush, there’s little in the way of run defense, and the offensive line allows too many plays in the backfield at key times.

WKU doesn’t have to blow up, but as long as it’s opportunistic, it could pull this off. But …

Week 14 College Schedule

Why Charlotte Will Win

Don’t get too fired up about the 38 put on the board by the Hilltopper O against FIU. The offense still didn’t really work.

WKU didn’t get to 280 yards of total offense in the game and has only hit the 300-yard mark twice all year.

Charlotte hasn’t been able to play in over a month – it missed all of November – but before the break, the offense was able to work a bit against the mediocre defenses.

It doesn’t take a whole lot of points to stress-test WKU. At home, and after so long without playing this is going to be one fired up team out of the box.

CFN Experts Picks: College

What’s Going To Happen

Charlotte was better than it seemed before its hiatus. The 49ers played four of their first five games on the road and lost to Appalachian State and Florida Atlantic in good fights – both good teams – and to Duke.

WKU’s offense will score points, but the offense won’t do enough to pull this off even though Charlotte will turn the ball over just enough to make this interesting.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Florida Atlantic (5-1) vs Georgia Southern (6-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Florida Atlantic Will Win

There’s nothing dynamic about the Owl passing game, the offensive line isn’t playing all that well, and the offense as a whole is sputtering and coughing, but that defense …

The Owls gave up 20 points in the only loss of the year to Marshall, and that’s about it. Those were the most points the team gave up.

It’s great in the red zone – it’s got a great way of clamping down drives, the pass rush is unstoppable, and most importantly, the linebackers are a rock against the run.

The Owls haven’t allowed more than 156 rushing yards, gave up two touchdowns on the ground, and have yet to get gouged by anyone. Stop the Georgia Southern option from getting going, and stop Georgia Southern.

Week 14 College Schedule

Why Georgia Southern Will Win

The Eagles have to control the clock early, and they have to score right away.

Florida Atlantic really doesn’t have enough of an offense to take over the game at any time, even with the 381 rushing yards against FIU a few weeks ago.

Georgia Southern has the ability take over games when it gets the option working, running for 250 yards or more seven times with last week’s loss to Georgia State the only time they weren’t able to get a win when the ground attack was working.

FAU might be playing great D, but it helps to play one of the easiest schedules in college football. There was the loss to Marshall, and the best win was over … UTSA?

CFN Experts Picks: College

What’s Going To Happen

Florida Atlantic’s defense is the real deal.

There might not be enough offense to overcome any sort of an early lead, but the defensive front will stuff the Georgia Southern ground game for under 250 yards – the Eagles are 0-3 when being held under.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Marshall (7-0) vs Rice (1-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Rice Will Win

Mike Collins and the passing game continue to be ultra-efficient.

This is one of the few teams on the Marshall schedule with he receiving corps to be a problem, and Collins has been hot with ten touchdown passes and just one pick to get the good targets the ball.

Rice has the passing game, but its key is to be deliberate, control the clock, and keep the defense off the field. The Owls have kept the ball for way over 35 minutes per game, and they need to grind this down to a halt in what should be a relatively low-scoring game.

Slow it down. hope Marshall screws up, and take advantage of every opportunity.

Week 14 College Schedule

Why Marshall Will Win

Marshall won’t have any problems with a low-scoring slugfest. It has the defense, it has the running game, and it has the ability to keep the Owl offense from doing anything interesting.

The Owls don’t have the pass rush to be any sort of a bother for QB Grant Wells, but it’ll be the ground game that takes over and owns the game.

Rice hasn’t faced any real running game, and yet last week it got hit by North Texas for 269 yards.

This is an easy formula for the Herd – keep it conservative and expect the nation’s second-best defense and No. 1 scoring D to do the rest.

CFN Experts Picks: College

What’s Going To Happen

Marshall keeps on rolling through its schedule with ease, and it’s about to do it again.

Will the College Football Playoff top 25 rankings listen?

The Herd defense will stuff the Owls on third down after third down, and the offensive side won’t get cheated in the time of possession battle.

Louisiana Tech (4-3) vs North Texas (3-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

North Texas has a huge problem with turnovers, and Louisiana Tech has to take advantage of it.

The UNT defense has only come up with four takeaways, the offense has given it up 12 times, and the struggling Louisiana Tech O needs all the help it can get. The D has taken the ball away nine times over the last four game – two or more times in every one.

The Mean Green got rolled by UTSA for 443 yards in last week’s loss, and allowed over 200 yards in five of the last six games – the D is among the worst in the nation, allowing 244 yards per game. However …

Week 14 College Schedule

Why North Texas Will Win

Louisiana Tech can’t run a lick.

The Bulldog offense has struggled in all phases, and it really hasn’t done anything on the ground, averaging fewer than three yards per carry with no games over 100 yards over the last five weeks. The six rushing scores came in two games with none in the other five.

The Mean Green offense is among the best in Conference USA, with the versatility to run for over 200 yards four times and throw for over 300 five times. Louisiana Tech can’t keep up if this gets into a shootout.

CFN Experts Picks: College

What’s Going To Happen

Louisiana Tech hasn’t played a college football game since Halloween, and North Texas is coming off of its worst performance of the season in the loss to UTSA.

At home, the North Texas offense will get out to an early start, Louisiana Tech will need a while to get going, and it’ll be a little too late. The Bulldogs will run better than they did throughout the first part of the season, and the rested defense will do enough to get out with a win that was a long time coming.

College Football News 2020 college football rankings after Week 13

[jwplayer nNehzZTz]

As always, the rankings try to take into account what’s happening with the season as much as possible – look at the schedules for you answer for most of this – but it gets tricky when an East Carolina blasts an SMU and a Michigan State gets by Northwestern.

There’s a trickle-down effect from there whenever there’s an upset or three. Throw a Rutgers over Purdue in there along with a Hawaii over Nevada, and the whole puzzle gets destroyed.

And then there’s the Pac-12 and a good chunk of the Big Ten. Teams like USC, Oregon, Wisconsin, Arizona State, Utah – that’s still as much on talent and expectations as performance.

But the top of this thing is shaking out. Again, it’s almost all about the schedule first, second and third … and the eye test kicks in.
