Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Atlantic: at Louisville, Wake Forest

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Syracuse

Virginia Cavaliers Football Schedule Analysis: There’s a warm up against William & Mary, and then it’s Game On with a fun home game against Illinois followed up by a run of three ACC road games in the first four. That includes a trip to North Carolina along with a weeknight game against Miami. However, there’s a payoff in the second half of the year with four home games in the final six.

There aren’t any real breaks, though. Going to BYU isn’t any sort of a break in late October, and having to play Notre Dame is a bear. At least that’s at home along with the rivalry date with Virginia Tech.

Virginia Cavaliers Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 9-3. It’s a bear of a schedule, but the Cavaliers take care of home games against Illinois and Wake Forest to go along with huge performances against Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. There’s a loss on the road to North Carolina here, and one to Miami there, and there’s likely a defeat to either the Irish or Hokies, but the team fights on through.

Virginia Cavaliers Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 4-8. The schedule is a bear, and nothing goes quite right. A loss to Illinois is just the start, and it just gets uglier from there with problems on the road again North Carolina and Miami, and with a loss at Louisville putting the pressure on in the second half. The finishing kick is a disaster with losses in all of the final four games.

Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Atlantic: Boston College, Syracuse

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Wake Forest

Virginia Tech Hokies Football Schedule Analysis: Starting out against North Carolina at home will set the tone for the rest of the season. With that, a trip to West Virginia, and with Notre Dame up early, it’s a tough first half of the season. However, six of the first seven games are in Blacksburg.

And then comes the second half of the year with four of the last five games on the road including Miami and the rivalry game against Virginia. However, there’s no Clemson on the slate

Virginia Tech Hokies Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 10-2. The Hokies are just that good, they get by West Virginia on the road and North Carolina and Notre Dame at home, and it’s a great start to offset a few tough losses – possibly at Miami and with one other hiccup – with a shot at winning the Coastal going into the Virginia game.

Virginia Tech Hokies Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 6-6. The season starts with a thud against North Carolina, there’s a loss at West Virginia, and dropping the home games against Notre Dame and Pitt are disastrous. The road games in the second half of the year don’t help with losses in three of those four away from home.

Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Coastal: Duke, at Virginia

Missed Teams From The Coastal: Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Pitt, Virginia Tech

Wake Forest Demon Deacons Football Schedule Analysis: The team eases into the season with Old Dominion and Norfolk State to start things out before hosting Florida State. Four of the first five games are in Winston-Salem, but there’s payment due over the second half of the season with five of the last seven games on the road.

There’s no Miami or Virginia Tech from the Coastal, and the North Carolina game is technically a non-conference matchup. That’s part of a brutal finishing kick with three of the four November games on the road including the trip to Clemson.

Wake Forest Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 9-3. The Demon Deacons start the season 3-0 after beating Florida State, and they take out Louisville and win at Syracuse for a huge first half of the campaign. The second half of the run is a struggle, but they survive Army, take care of the home games, and get by Boston College to close things out.

Wake Forest Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 4-8. Wake Forest loses to Florida State and Virginia to start the ACC season, and there aren’t any breaks on the road. The D can’t handle the Army option, the North Carolina game is an ugly loss, and a defeat to NC State leads to a winless November.

SEC Schedules, Analysis, Best/Worst Scenarios
East FloridaGeorgia | Kentucky | Missouri
South Carolina | Tennessee | Vanderbilt
West Alabama | Arkansas | Auburn | LSU
Mississippi State | Ole Miss | Texas A&M

The 2021 SEC football schedule was released. There’s anger, excitement, and a whole lot of looking ahead to what should be a full schedule again this fall as if 2020 never happened.

Here are five things about the schedule that matter including who misses the big teams from the other division, the non-conference analysis, the one big difference in this year’s slate, the winners and losers, and starting out with …

5.  Who gets the rested teams?

There was a time not all that long ago when SEC teams took an Alabamacation.

You have the Crimson Tide on the schedule? Okay … just make sure you get a week off to rest up and get ready first. In the end that time off usually didn’t matter much, but that’s changed now.

Every SEC team has one off week and one light scrimmage against an FCS or some other cream-filled pastry of a paycheck game, but this year, that easy date isn’t always coming before a key SEC date. That matters, too – sometimes it’s nice to get a few easy games to gear up.

SEC East

Florida
The open date comes before: Georgia, Oct. 23
The FCS scrimmage: Samford before at Missouri, Nov. 20

Georgia
The open date comes before: Florida, Oct. 30
The FCS scrimmage: Charleston Southern before at Georgia Tech, Nov. 27

Kentucky
The open date comes before: at Mississippi State, Oct. 30
The FCS scrimmage: Chattanooga before at South Carolina, Sept. 25

Missouri
The open date comes before: at Vanderbilt, Oct. 30
The FCS scrimmage: SE Missouri State before at Boston College, Sept. 25

South Carolina
The open date comes before: Florida, Nov. 6
The FCS scrimmage: Eastern Illinois before at East Carolina, Sept. 11

Tennessee
The open date comes before: at Kentucky, Nov. 6
The FCS scrimmage: Tennessee Tech before at Florida, Sept. 25

Vanderbilt
The open date comes before: Kentucky, Nov. 13
The FCS scrimmage: East Tennessee State before at Colorado State, Sept. 11

SEC West

Alabama
The open date comes before: LSU, Nov. 6
The FCS scrimmage: Mercer before at Florida, Sept. 18

Arkansas
The open date comes before: Mississippi State, Nov. 6
The FCS scrimmage: Arkansas-Pine Bluff before – and here’s one of the SEC’s most interesting schedule quirks – the Oct. 30 week off

Auburn
The open date comes before: Ole Miss, Oct. 30
The FCS scrimmage: Alabama State before at Penn State, Sept. 18

LSU
The open date comes before: at Alabama, Nov. 6
The FCS scrimmage: McNeese State before Central Michigan, Sept. 18

Mississippi State
The open date comes before: Alabama, Oct. 16
The FCS scrimmage: Tennessee State before Ole Miss, Nov. 27

Ole Miss
The open date comes before: at Alabama, Oct. 2
The FCS scrimmage: Austin Peay before Tulane, Sept. 18

Texas A&M
The open date comes before: Auburn, Nov. 6
The FCS scrimmage: Prairie View before at LSU, Nov. 27

2021 Ole Miss Football Schedule

Ole Miss Rebels Football Schedule Analysis: If the Rebels can get by Arkansas at home and win the Lane-Kiffin-probably-should-be-the-head-man game at Tennessee, it’s going to be a huge start before hosting LSU.

Louisville is an interesting game to start, and Liberty should be a tough out in early November, but anything but 4-0 in non-conference play won’t be okay. Playing Tennessee and Vanderbilt from the East and missing Florida and Georgia … Merry Christmas. Getting three straight home games in November is an even bigger break.

Best Case Scenario: 9-3. Start with missing the top teams from the East. If the Rebels beat Tennessee and Vandy, and also take care of Louisville, that’s six wins right there considering the rest of the soft non-conference slate. Take care of Arkansas at home, beat Mississippi State on the road, and pull off an upset, and a nine-win season is doable.

Worst Case Scenario: 4-8. If the Rebels drop that date with Louisville and lose at Tennessee, there’s a problem. In a worst case scenario, they lose the winnable games at Mississippi State and to Arkansas, and aren’t even in the discussion against the big boys on the slate.

Games vs. The East: at Tennessee, Vanderbilt

Missed Teams From The East: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina

2021 Alabama Football Schedule

Alabama Crimson Tide Football Schedule Analysis: It’s just difficult enough to expect a loss if the Tide aren’t 2020 amazing with four landmines – Miami, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn – away from Tuscaloosa, and throw Mississippi State in there.

It’s a ten-win slate just by this team showing up, but four of the first seven games are away from home. Get through that clean, and it’s smooth sailing going from October 23 until the finish without leaving the great state of Alabama.

Best Case Scenario: 12-0. It’s Alabama, so going unbeaten is a real expectation – obviously. Get through Miami and Florida early on, survive the likely shootout against Ole Miss, and don’t bog down against Texas A&M. The week off comes at the perfect time in late October.

Worst Case Scenario: 10-2. It’s going to take something special to beat this team once, much less twice, but in this case, the Tide lose at Florida and/or Texas A&M, and drop another date against an improved LSU or in a wacky firefight against Ole Miss or Mississippi State.
