K Chris Boswell on track to break the single-season field goal record

Chris Boswell is on pace to break the NFL single-season field goal record, fueling the Steelers’ strong start to their 2024 campaign.

The ‘Wizard of Boz’ is truly onto something special in this spectacular start to the 8-2 Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2024 season. K Chris Boswell has all but locked up a potential third-straight AFC Special Teams Player of the Month award for November, and he is currently on pace to shatter one particular NFL record.

The single-season field goal record is held by David Akers, who made 44 field goals during the 2011 season. Akers had previously broken the 2005 record of 40 set by Neil Rackers, but Boswell is on pace to leave Akers’ record in the dust.

Through ten games played, Boswell has attempted 30 field goals and made 29 of them. He is averaging three attempts per game and is currently on pace to hit 49 field goals in the 2024 17-game season after his six field goals made in Week 11.

If Boswell achieves this historic feat, should the kicker at least be considered in the 2024 MVP race? After all, Boswell is perhaps the most responsible for the Steelers’ fantastic start to this season.

Chris Boswell shines again, leading the Steelers to an 8-2 start in 2024 going six for six on field goals in Week 11’s victory.

The ‘Wizard of Boz’ strikes again. While fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers anticipated QBs Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson to create a high-scoring Week 11 contest, they were instead treated to another Chris Boswell masterclass.

Boswell has achieved accolade after accolade to begin the 2024 season, being named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in both September and October, as well as kicking his 1,000th career point in the Steelers’ Week 3 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

His best performance in 2024 came all the way back in Week 1, kicking a perfect six-for-six field goals from 57, 56, 51, 44, 40, and 25 yards.

Boswell matched his season-best six field goals made in the Steelers’ Week 11 victory over the Ravens, kicking for 57, 52, 50, 32, 32, and 27 yards.

The Steelers’ kicker is putting together one of his best seasons to date, with his confidence, accuracy, and consistency rallying his team to an unbelievable 8-2 start in 2024.

Steelers’ K Chris Boswell discussed his growth and confidence as a kicker on Ben Roethlisberger’s podcast, sharing insights from his career.

Chris Boswell, AKA the Wizard of Boz, is regarded as one of the greatest kickers the NFL has ever seen. While Boswell is seemingly automatic and comfortable attempting any kick from any distance, it wasn’t always this way for the Pittsburgh Steelers star.

Making an appearance on the latest episode of Ben Roethlisberger’s podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, co-host Spencer Te’o asked Boswell when kicking became automatic.

Boswell humbly stated, “I think, you know, the more years I put into it, kinda, the more confidence I put in myself in that situation. It definitely didn’t start like that. I definitely worried about holds, worried about snaps, worried about wind, stuff like that. And then I’ve just gotten to the point where I don’t even think about anything anymore.”

While Boswell’s hard work and dedication speak for themselves, Big Ben added that Boswell always holds himself accountable, stating, “I’ve never heard this guy make an excuse.”

Throughout his storied career in Pittsburgh, Boswell’s performance has made him a fan favorite in the Steel City, and his wise words on growth and confidence speak volumes about his character as a whole.

Steelers’ K Chris Boswell named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month

Steelers’ K Chris Boswell has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for his elite play in October.

The ‘Wizard of Boz’ strikes again!  Pittsburgh Steelers’ kicker Chris Boswell has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in back-to-back months for his excellent performance and contribution to his team’s 6-2 record. The NFL announced Boswell’s accomplishment on Thursday morning, and this award is well-deserved.

This is now the third time Boswell has earned the illustrious AFC Special Teams Play of the Month award, with his first selection dating all the way back in December/January of the 2015 season, and his second selection being last month in September of the 2024 season. Boswell has kicked with an impressive 89.0% accuracy on his field goal attempts, hitting on 254 out of 289.

Steelers fans, including myself, are truly lucky to be able to witness arguably one of the greatest kickers of all-time tearing it up for the Pittsburgh Steelers on any given Sunday.  Can Boswell do the unthinkable and earn three consecutive AFC Special Teams Player of the Month awards?

The NFL named Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had quite the kicker problem before Chris Boswell came along nine years ago today. They went through four in two months (Shawn Suisham, Garrett Hartley, Josh Scobee).

Fast forward to now and Boswell is one of the most clutch kickers in the NFL.

Boswell is responsible for an NFL-leading 39 points (of 75 total points scored) in September. He went 11-for-12 on field goal attempts, including a long of 57 yards, and six-for-six on extra point attempts.

According to Steelers.com, Boswell’s 11 field goals made (five field goals of 50+ yards, 91.7% field goal percentage and 83.3% field goal percentage of 50+ yards) all lead the AFC and rank second in the NFL. Boswell’s only miss came on a 62-yarder in Week 3.

This is the third time Boswell has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week (Week 6, 2015; Week 13, 2017; Week 1, 2024). He also won AFC Special Teams Player of the Month (December) in 2015.
