Cardinals injury report: Christian Kirk, Justin Pugh questionable vs. Seahawks

Check out the final injury report of the week.

The Arizona Cardinals released their final injury report on Friday and they are mostly in good shape as they get ready to take on the Seattle Seahawks on the road. Three players are listed as questionable.

Questionable:

  • WR Christian Kirk (ankle)
  • OL Justin Pugh (back)
  • DL Caraun Reid (knee)

Kirk was limited for the second day in a row. Kliff Kingsbury said he Kirk wasn’t working at full speed but is hopeful he will be on Sunday. Kirk was able to finish the game last week after he had his ankle looked at. It is the same ankle that caused him to miss three games earlier this season but it is not the same injury.

Pugh was limited on Friday, practicing for the first time. It was the same last week and he played on Sunday. If he can’t play, the Cardinals are very comfortable with Mason Cole filling in.

Reid was a full participant on Friday.

Everyone else practiced fully, including linebacker Jordan Hick, who did not practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday with a calf injury.

7 player connections between Cardinals, Seahawks

There are five former Seahawks with the Cardinals and a pair of former Cardinals with the Seahawks.

The Arizona Cardinals take on the Seattle Seahawks this weekend for the second time this season. They are familiar opponents, as they are division foes, but they also have familiar faces on their rosters.

Between the two teams, seven players on their roster and injured reserve spent time with the other. The Cardinals have five former Seahawks and the Seahawks have two former Cardinals.

The last time the two teams met, they had eight player connections.

Marsh was with the Seahawks twice. He was drafted by them in 2014 and played three seasons. He had three sacks in 2016. After two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, he re-signed with the Seahawks in the offseason, only to be cut after they traded for Jadeveon Clowney.

Cardinals hope to renew road success vs. Seahawks

The Cardinals have more wins in Seattle than any other team.

The Arizona Cardinals travel to Seattle as they do every year to take on the Seattle Seahawks. They seek their eighth win in Seattle since 2002.

The Cardinals have more wins in Seattle than any other team in that time with seven. Three other teams are next with four wins in Seattle.

Since 2013, the Cardinals are 4-2 in Seattle, although all four of those wins were when Bruce Arians was coach.

The Seahawks won in the season finale last year on a last-second field goal.

Seattle holds a 21-19-1 advantage in the all-time series.

We should expect a close game in Seattle. The last four games there between the two teams and five of the last seven have been decided by one score.

Cardinals injury report: Christian Kirk upgraded to limited

Check out the second injury report of Week 16.

The Arizona Cardinals released their second injury report of the week. They saw improvement with almost everybody who appeared on the list. After seven players sat out of Wednesday’s practice, only one did on Thursday.

Did not practice

  • OL Justin Pugh (back)

Pugh’s back kept him out of two practices last week and then he was limited on Friday. He started and played on Sunday, coming out for only a few snaps to give Mason Cole some work. If he is limited on Friday, he will likely play again this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks.

Limited

  • LB Jordan Hicks (calf)
  • WR Christian Kirk (ankle)
  • DL Caraun Reid (knee)

Both Hicks and Kirk were upgraded after missing Wednesday, suggesting they could be on track to play on Sunday.

Reid was limited for the second day in a row.

Four veterans who had the day off on Wednesday were back as full participants on Thursday. Linebacker Joe Walker (ribs) practiced fully after he was limited on Wednesday.

Kliff Kingsbury would be OK with 1,000-yard rushing season by Kyler Murray

“He’s great at protecting himself, has been his whole life and so I would be pleased with it.”

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has set the NFL on fire with his play, both throwing the ball and running the ball. He has over 1,000 rushing yards and set the league record for rushing yards by a quarterback with two games left in the season.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray isn’t anywhere near 1,000 yards but leads the team with 504 rushing yards, a team record for the position.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury was asked by reporters on a conference call with the Seattle media, as the Cardinals take on the Seahawks on Sunday, if he would be fine with 1,000 rushing yards from Murray.

“It’s okay as long as he’s protecting himself,” he responded. “He’s not built like Lamar, Lamar is a big guy, a physical runner. That’s not Kyler’s game. He’s more of a quick-twitch, finding the soft spot, get down, get out of bounds. But if he were to go for 1,000, he’s really smart, he’s great at protecting himself, has been his whole life and so I would be pleased with it.”

Murray’s 504 rushing yards have come without much perceived effort. For a few games, it felt like he was actively trying not to run.

Looking ahead to 2020 and beyond, as he gets more comfortable with the NFL and running an offense, it might be something we see happen.

Seahawks injury report: Bobby Wagner among 5 to miss practice

Several starters were out or limited for the Seahawks on Wednesday.

The Seattle Seahawks began their week of practice preparing for the Arizona Cardinals. They released their first injury report of the week and could be shorthanded on Sunday.

In all, five players did not practice and another six were limited.

Did not practice

  • T Duane Brown (knee, biceps)
  • DE Jadeveon Clowney (core)
  • S Quandre Diggs (ankle)
  • T George Fant (illness)
  • LB Bobby Wagner (ankle)

Brown will likely play through the issues as he has all season. Clowney’s status is up in the air so far. Pete Carroll is hopeful he can increase his workload. Diggs is not expected to play and Wagner’s injury is one to watch.

Limited

  • LB Cody Barton (thigh)
  • CB Shaquil Griffin (hamstring)
  • C Joey Hunt (fibula)
  • G Mike Iupati (neck)
  • LB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring)
  • DT Al Woods (ankle)

Cardinals injury report: Christian Kirk among 7 Cardinals who miss practice

See what Cardinals missed practice on Wednesday and who was limited.

[jwplayer nHwDPBLw-ThvAeFxT]

The Arizona Cardinals kicked off their week of practice in Week 16 with a lengthy injury report. Seven players sat out of practice Wednesday and another two were limited.

Did not practice

  • WR Larry Fitzgerald (day off)
  • LB Jordan Hicks (calf)
  • LB Chandler Jones (day off)
  • WR Christian Kirk (ankle)
  • DL Corey Peters (day off)
  • OL Justin Pugh (back)
  • OL J.R. Sweezy (day off)

The Cardinals gave four veterans the day off. That hasn’t happened all season. Pugh missed two practices last week with his back injury and still played on Sunday. Kirk’s ankle is something to watch, but he finished the game so it appears to be precautionary right now, especially late in the season. Hicks’ calf has also come up earlier in the season and he hasn’t missed any games.

Limited

  • DL Caraun Reid (knee)
  • LB Joe Walker (ribs)

Since the Cardinals didn’t add another defensive lineman to the roster, it does not appear they worry too much about Reid’s injury. Walker played Sunday despite dealing with the ribs and missing practice time last week.

Linebacker Haason Reddick, who left the game on Sunday with a groin injury, practiced fully, which is good news. Receiver Pharoh Cooper was also a full participant with a thigh injury.

Cardinals are big underdogs on road vs. Seahawks

The Seahawks won outright, covered the spread and the game hit the under in the last meeting between the two teams.

The Arizona Cardinals are used to being underdogs this season. They have begun every single game week this season as an underdog, at least terms of betting lines and point spreads. Only once did they end the week as favorites — in Week 3 when Carolina Panthers Cam Newton got hurt and Kyle Allen was announced the starter.

This week is no different as the Cardinals are set to take on the NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks on the road.

According to BetMGM, the Seahawks are favored to win at home by 9.5 points. The Cardinals are 8-5-1 against the spread this season. Seattle is 7-6-1 against the spread.

Betting just the moneyline means little profit when going with the Seahawks. At -455, you only win $2.20 for every $10 wagered. The Cardinals can give a big payout. An outright win at +350 would win $35 for every $10 wagered.

Oddsmakers expect a high-scoring game. The over/under is set at 50.5 points. Games with the Cardinals and also with the Seahawks have hit the over eight times this season.

When the two teams played earlier this season, the Seahawks won outright, covered the spread and the point total went under.

Seahawks lose WR Josh Gordon to PED, substance abuse suspension

The Seahawks will face the Cardinals without the troubled and talented wideout.

The Arizona Cardinals take on the Seattle Seahawks this weekend on the road in Week 16. There is one player they won’t have to defend.

Receiver Josh Gordon, troubled his entire career with problems with substance abuse, has been suspended again.

This time, it is for multiple infractions. He has been suspended for violations under the policy for performance-enhancing substances and also for the policy for substances of abuse.

It is the fifth time in his career he has been suspended.

Gordan had not been a big part of their offense this season. In six games, he has had only seven catches. They have been big ones, as he has 139 yards on those seven receptions.
