The Cardinals must trim five players from their roster by Tuesday afternoon. These are several of the potential candidates.
The Arizona Cardinals have played two preseason games and now have a few decisions to make with their roster. They must trim their roster down by five players to get down to 80 players.
They technically only have to get their roster down to 81 players because of their roster exemption for tight end Bernhard Seikovits, who joined the team last year through the NFL’s International Pathways Program.
But they still must cut five players by Tuesday afternoon.
For these coming roster moves, health at different positions matters. They still must field a team this weekend for their preseason finale and will not play their starters. Which players are potential cuts?
They debuted their alternate black helmets on Sunday against the Ravens. What do you think of the new look?
The Arizona Cardinals debuted their new alternate black helmets Sunday night in their 24-17 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens. They wore them with their alternate black jerseys.
It was the first of three games in which they will wear the black helmets this season. They will also have them in Week 5 at home against the Philadelphia Eagles in the same alternate black uniforms and then, in Week 7 — receiver DeAndre Hopkins’ return from suspension — they will wear them with their black Color Rush jerseys at home against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night.
Reviews of the helmets seemed to be positive from the fans.
Quarterback Trace McSorley, who started the game for the Cardinals on Sunday, was a fan.
“I think they look pretty sweet. A pretty slick look to them, so I’m excited for when we’re able to bring them out in the season,” he said after the game. “I think guys enjoyed wearing them this week in practice. They’ve got a lot of hype to them. I enjoyed it.”
What did you think of them?

After calling plays in the fourth quarter against the Bengals, he likely will do it again against the Ravens.
In the Arizona Cardinals’ 36-23 preseason-opening win last week, they included an interesting wrinkle of interest. Starting quarterback Kyler Murray, who did not play in the game, called plays in the fourth quarter.
It is something he had been doing in some training camp practices.
It appears that it was not a one-time thing.
Undrafted rookie quarterback Jarrett Guarantano, who was on the field running the offense in the fourth quarter when Murray was calling plays, expects Murray to do it again.
