Cardinals are home underdogs in preseason contest vs. Chiefs

The Cardinals and Chiefs play on Friday night at State Farm Stadium. We go over the odds for the preseason contest.

The Arizona Cardinals will take on the Kansas City Chiefs at home this Friday night for their second preseason game of the year.

The Chiefs will treat this game as their regular season dress rehearsal, as head coach Andy Reid intends on playing the starters about a half. The Cardinals have not said how long the starters will play, but quarterback Kyler Murray, who sat out the opener, will play some.

Heading into this contest, the Cardinals are underdogs in their home stadium in this preseason matchup.

According to Tipico Sportsbook, the Chiefs are 2.5-point favorites on Friday.

On the money line, the Chiefs are favored at -140, meaning they have 58.33% implied odds of winning. At those odds, a person would have to wager $140 to win $100

The Cardinals are priced at +115 to win. That gives them 46.51% implied odds of winning. A $100 wager on the Cardinals to win outright would win $115.

For an ATS bet, the Chiefs are favored at -2.5 (-115). The Cardinals are +2.5 (-105). To win a Chiefs ATS bet, they would have to win by at lead three points. A Cardinals ATS wager wins if they win the game or lose by no more than two points.

The total is set at 41.5 points, with the Over at -105 and the Under at -115.

If the two teams combine for 42 points or more, betting the Over wins, while if they combine for 41 or fewer points in the game, An Under ticket will cash.

Kyler Murray isn’t a fan of the preseason

He “definitely wasn’t mad” that he didn’t play in the preseason opener.

The Arizona Cardinals held quarterback Kyler Murray out of the preseason opener last week against the Dallas Cowboys. He had no problem with that.

He spoke to reporters after practice on Tuesday and, when asked about it, he said he “definitely wasn’t mad about it.”

He does not love the preseason.

“I’m not very fond of it,” he said. “I like going hard in practice and, on Sunday, letting the chips fall where they may.”

It comes down to the fact that “it’s not real.”

Preseason games don’t count for anything.

Kliff Kingsbury echoed the same sentiment in some ways, although he believes in his players getting preseason work. But he understands that those games don’t count. They are meaningful for evaluation and for players trying to make a team.

Murray will play some this week. It is something he is told he is going to do.

“They say what they want to do and I do what they say,” he said.

Murray said he finds it difficult to play only a little bit. He doesn’t like getting days off, so to only get a few plays in feels foreign to him.

It is unlikely he plays in the preseason finale next week, so his snaps on Friday will be his only ones of the preseason.

He won’t be mad about that, either.

Chandler Jones will miss preseason game vs. Chiefs, Markus Golden questionable

Jones suffered an injury that is “nothing serious” and Markus Golden might not play as well in the team’s second preseason game.

The Arizona Cardinals will have their depth at outside linebacker tested this week when they host the Kansas City Chiefs for their second preseason game of the year.

They will play this game without outside linebacker Chandler Jones.

He suffered an injury during practice on Monday. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury does not give details about them in the preseason and training camp. Reporters saw something happen, but it happened in the closed portion of practice so they can’t report about it.

But Kingsbury said, “I do not expect him to play (Friday),” although he added it was “nothing serious.” He was not on the field for the open part of practice Tuesday.

Jones was held out of the preseason opener along with other top starters on the team, so it seems like he will not get any work in the preseason this year.

Markus Golden also missed on Tuesday. Kingsbury also said his issue was “nothing serious” and that he would be a game-time decision to play against the Chiefs on Friday.

With no Jones and possibly no Golden, that would mean a likely starting lineup of Devon Kennard and Kylie Fitts or perhaps rookie Victor Dimukeje.
