The Internet is having fun with Kyler Murray’s ‘sports bra’

A photo of a shirtless Kyler Murray wearing a GPS player tracker vest has turned into a meme.

You can count on the Internet and social media to take something funny or odd and run with it.

Such is the case with a recent photo of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. He was shirtless at practice but had what many believed was a sports bra.

That led to a meme that has been seen more than 7.8 million times.

You have to read the replies as well for more fun.

Why would Murray or any pro football player wear a sports bra?

Well, he was not, actually.

It was a GPS player tracker he was wearing without a shirt.

The Cardinals and football players all over the world use this for data tracking. Cardinals players wear them under their practice jerseys.

In this case, Murray was not wearing a jersey because he has not yet been cleared to practice. He is recovering from offseason ACL surgery.

The tracking vest gives players and teams data about movement, speed and is used to manage practice load and recovery.

Does it look odd being worn without a shirt or jersey? Certainly.

But is it a sports bra? No.

It is a player movement tracking vest.

But the Internet can have fun with it. Murray won’t be concerned.

Rookie LB BJ Ojulari still might not make preseason debut this week

Jonathan Gannon still needs to see certain things in practice from Ojulari.

Arizona Cardinals second-round pick BJ Ojulari, an outside linebacker, began training camp on PUP with a knee injury. He was activated off the list but did not get any work in the Cardinals’ preseason opener.

With another week of practice, one might think Ojulari could be on track to make his preseason debut.

That might not happen this week.

“Not sure yet (whether he will play),” said head coach Jonathan Gannon on Wednesday. “We’re going to be smart with him. I need to see something from him in practice before I feel comfortable putting him in a game.”

The longer Ojulari is out and doesn’t get live game reps, the less likely it is that he has a significant role in the defense, at least early in the season.

If he can’t go on Saturday, hopefully he will have progressed enough to play in the preseason finale next Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Zach Ertz misses practice, Cameron Thomas suffering from ‘residual effect of game’

A couple of practice updates about the Cardinals as they prepare for their second preseason game.

The Arizona Cardinals were back on the practice field on Wednesday preparing for their second preseason matchup. They face the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday at home.

While head coach Jonathan Gannon indicated early in the week that some players would be coming back from injury. However, they did not have everyone practicing.

Again, second-year linebacker Cameron Thomas did not practice. Gannon would not say what exactly was the issue, but rather called it “residual effect from the game.”

Tight end Zach Ertz also would miss practice. He was activated from PUP on Tuesday but it wasn’t a setback. Per Gannon, he had a cold.

We will see if Thomas will be able to play on Saturday. We should not expect Ertz to play in the preseason.

Cardinals sign S Sean Chandler

The veteran has been in the league since 2018. He will be suspended the first two weeks of 2023.

The Arizona Cardinals entered Tuesday with two roster vacancies after placing cornerback Rashad Fenton on injured reserve and releasing running back Stevie Scott.

They filled one with one of three safeties they worked out on Monday. They signed veteran Sean Chandler.

Chandler has been in the league since 2018. He was an undrafted rookie out of Temple and has spent three seasons with the Giants and two with the Panthers.

The 5-10, 210-pound safety played in all 17 games last season for Carolina, logging 19 total tackles.

He had 74 defensive snaps but played 320 on special teams.

His best season was in 2021. He played in 15 games for the Panthers that season, starting seven, collecting a career-high 42 tackles, one forced fumble and one pass breakup.

He has 23 career special teams tackles.

His addition seems to be for depth during the preseason only. He will be suspended the first two games of the 2023 season for a PED violation.

Cardinals activate Zach Ertz from PUP

The Cardinals will work him in slowly so he is ready to play in Week 1.

It was an expected move but the Arizona Cardinals get tight end Zach Ertz back. After he was cleared to return to football work, the Cardinals announced Tuesday he was activated from PUP (physically unable to perform list), meaning he was eligible finally to practice.

The plan is to work him in over the next three-plus weeks to have him ready to play in the season opener

Ertz tore his ACL and MCL last season in Week 10.

What is the plan now?

“We’ve got to be smart about it,” said offensive coordinator Drew Petzing on Tuesday. “I think a lot of that, we’re going to rely heavily on the training staff and his ability to tell us where he is at and how he feels, and take it slowly and make sure he’s ready to go but the time he hist game day.”

We should not expect to see him in any preseason action. He won’t be ready for Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs and he wouldn’t play in the preseason finale.

Cardinals got out of preseason opener healthy, have players coming back this week

Jonathan Gannon said no one from the game should miss time and other players should be returning.

The Arizona Cardinals had a couple of players leave the game with apparent injuries. It would appear they weren’t serious and might not cost them any time.

“We were good,” he told reporters Monday. “I think everybody’s good to go coming back here with this week.”

Running back Corey Clement and receiver Andre Baccellia both exited the game with injuries. Baccellia was evaluated for a concussion.

Gannon said after the game on Friday that guys could have returned. They didn’t but could have.

Other players could be returning.

“We’ve got some guys that have been a little nicked and have missed some time that you’ll see this week that are getting back fully into the mix,” Gannon said.

Potential players returning could be running back Keaontay Ingram, who has missed a couple of weeks of practice, tight end Trey McBride, who was back in practice last week but did play, linebacker Myjai Sanders, who injured his hand early in camp, and linebacker BJ Ojulari, Arizona’s second-round pick who was activated from PUP last week.

The Cardinals play their next preseason game Saturday at 5 p.m. Arizona time at home.

Cardinals held workouts for 3 safeties

They brought in Sean Chandler, Dan Isom and Kyree Woods.

The Arizona Cardinals cleared a pair of roster spots on Monday, releasing running back Stevie Scott and placing cornerback Rashad Fenton on injured reserve.

They did not announce any player signings but could after they had some players in for workouts on Monday.

According to NFL Draft Diamonds, the NFL transaction list had the Cardinals bringing in three safeties.

Does this mean the Cardinals are shorthanded in the secondary with injuries?

Who were they?

Cardinals release RB Stevie Scott, have 2 open roster spots

The Cardinals released Scott, who didn’t get to play in the preseason opener last week.

The Arizona Cardinals cleared a pair of roster spots on Monday. They placed cornerback Rashad Fenton on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury and they also released a player they had only recently signed.

They waived running back Stevie Scott, whom they added to the roster last week following the Achilles injury to Marlon Mack that landed him on injured reserve.

Scott did not appear in the Cardinals’ preseason opener on Friday.

He most recently played in the USFL for the Michigan Panthers and also has spent time in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints.

His release suggests that running back Keaontay Ingram could be set to return from the injury that has had him sidelined for a couple of weeks.

Likewise, it would appear that Corey Clement, who left the game Friday to the locker room with an apparent injury, is good to go.
