Jake Plummer posts funny video about Broncos QB Drew Lock’s ‘sweet move’

Broncos quarterback Drew Lock appeared to turn on fake hash marks with a foot stomp during Sunday’s snowy game against the Chiefs.

The Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs played Sunday’s game at Arrowhead Stadium in the middle of a pretty big snowstorm (these pictures from the game are amazing).

To try to help fans view the white hash marks on the field, CBS had digital hash marks appear on the field in green. The network must have had some glitches though because the fake lines appeared on and off throughout the game.

At one point in the second quarter, the digital hash marks clicked on at the exact moment that Broncos quarterback Drew Lock put his foot on the ground. Former quarterback Jake Plummer posted a video of the moment on Twitter and joked that Lock’s stomp was a “pretty sweet move.”

Some lighthearted fun is probably welcomed by fans in Denver after watching what was otherwise a forgettable performance from the Broncos. Up next for Denver are home games against the Lions and Raiders.

Broncos fans are probably willing to trade moments of humor for a few wins to close out the season, even if it means falling in the draft order.

Peyton Manning congratulates Drew Brees using his signature humor

Former Colts and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning had a funny reaction when Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke his touchdown record.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw four touchdown passes against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday evening, passing former Colts and Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning to become the NFL’s all-time leader in touchdown passes (541).

When Brees broke Manning’s yardage record last year, the quarterback created a playful video “congratulating” the Saints signal-caller with his signature sense or humor.

“Drew, for 1,000 days I’ve held the record for all-time passing yards in the NFL. I’ve gotta tell ya, it’s been the greatest 1,000 days of my life,” Manning said in the video.

“And thanks to you, that’s over now. You’ve ruined that for me. So, thank you very much. [Now] I have nothing left to look forward to except slicing my tomatoes, making dinner for my family, putting together this wedge salad.”

A man off-camera then reminded Manning that Brees was also set to break his TD record, prompting an early congratulations for that record as well.

“Let this serve as the congratulations for the touchdown record, because as you can see, I am very busy,” Manning said. “I don’t have time to keep doing these videos for you, congratulating you.”

The video was in good fun and Manning wrapped it up on a serious note.

“In all seriousness, Drew, congratulations on this record, you’ve done it the right way,” Manning said. “All your hard work and dedication paid off.”

Broncos OLB Von Miller defends QB Drew Lock: ‘Everybody else needs to step up’

“Drew [Lock] is definitely the future,” Von Miller said. “It’s everybody around. Guys have to get open, the offensive line has to block.”

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Drew Lock had the first bad game of his career on Sunday, a 23-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the snow. Lock completed just 45 percent of his passes for 208 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the loss.

Some fans in Denver are questioning if Lock should be viewed as the team’s QB of the future after his poor showing. After the game, veteran outside linebacker Von Miller came to the defense of the young QB.

“Drew is definitely the future,” Miller said Sunday afternoon. “It’s everybody around. Guys have to get open, the offensive line has to block, guys have to run the ball, just cliché little things. Drew is doing what he needs to do. [The] defense needs to stop messing around and rush the pass and play tight coverage.

“We have got to sound like a broken record up here because we keep saying the same thing. We found our quarterback and we have a great one, but everybody else needs to step up. You can’t just lean on one guy, offense, defense or special teams. This is the pros, you cannot just lean on one guy to do it all or to save you, it has to be a collective effort by the foundation of the team.”

Since winning Super Bowl 50 in 2015, Denver has now missed the playoffs four-straight times and has had three-straight losing seasons. The way the team is losing has taken a toll on Miller.

“It’s more than just winning or losing, it just defeats my soul to go out there and play the way we play and lose the way you lose,” Miller said.

Though he was clearly frustrated after Sunday’s game, Miller said he has not lost hope.

“No, I’m not losing hope, I still have the vision,” the linebacker said. “I’m just telling you how I feel after this game. It just doesn’t feel good at all to go out there and play like this.”

Miller, 30, has contract options for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He is set to earn base salaries of $17.5 million in each of the next two years.

It’s official: Broncos can’t make NFL playoffs in 2019

Can the Broncos still make the NFL playoffs this season?

After starting 3-8, the Denver Broncos were longshots to reach the 2019 NFL playoffs. Quarterback Drew Lock won his first two starts, though, renewing optimism that the team could finish 8-8 and sneak into the postseason as the AFC’s No. 6 seed.

After Sunday’s 23-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver’s hopes of a late-season push have been crushed. The Broncos are now officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 5-9 record.

Even if Denver won its final two games and ended the year 7-9, that wouldn’t be enough to make the playoffs. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans already have eight wins so the Broncos could not catch up to them.

The Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders are also within reach of eight wins, ruling out the possibility of Denver making the playoffs with a losing record. This marks the third-straight year the Broncos have finished with a losing record.

Denver will host the Detroit Lions on Sunday and the Raiders in Week 17. Already eliminated from postseason contention, Denver will be playing for pride and the future. Lock is 2-1 as a starter so far this year.

4 takeaways from Broncos’ 23-3 loss to Chiefs

The Broncos went into snowy Arrowhead Stadium in Week 15 and came away with a 20-point defeat against the Chiefs. Here are our takeaways.

On a snowy day at Arrowhead Stadium, the Denver Broncos saw one streak sadly come to an end while another unfortunately continued.

The Kansas City Chiefs have now beaten the Broncos nine straight times. The Broncos’ two-game winning streak is now a thing of the past as well.

The game was never close as the Chiefs controlled from the outset. The Broncos weren’t able to muster up much offense and had only a field goal to show for their efforts.

With the loss, the Broncos drop to 5-9 on the season and will return home to face the Detroit Lions next Sunday. But before we talk any more about next week, let’s take a look back at this loss.

1. The snow was a big factor

(Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports)

Yes, the Chiefs had to play in the same elements and had no problems, but the snow really slowed down what the Broncos wanted to do in this one. It could have been worse if the Chiefs didn’t have a heated field, but the conditions were far from ideal.

The Broncos mustered just 251 total yards on the day (52 yards rushing) and just could not get going. The same team went up and down the field against the Houston Texans last week.

That likely had more to do with the field conditions than it did the Chiefs’ defense, which is average at best.

2. Travis Kelce is a Bronco killer

(Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports)

Kelce probably gets a big grin every time he sees the Broncos are next on the schedule. He has had some huge games against them during his career and Sunday was no different.

Kelce caught 11 passes for 142 yards in the game. Every time Patrick Mahomes needed a play, he looked Kelce’s way. Kelce was making the catches with ease and seemed indefensible at times.

In future meetings, the Broncos need to find a strategy to slow the talented tight end down.

Broncos fall to Chiefs 23-3, secure 3rd-straight losing season

The Chiefs defeated the Broncos in a snowstorm on Sunday, improving to 10-4.

The Denver Broncos (5-9) lost to the Kansas City Chiefs (10-4) 23-3 on a snowy afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 15. The snow and wind seemed to slow down Denver’s offense but had little impact on Kansas City’s own offense.

This marks the third-straight year the Broncos have finished the year with a losing record. The best Denver could finish the season is 7-9.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a big game, throwing for 340 yards and two touchdowns, good for a 115.7 passer rating. Mahomes’ favorite target was tight end Travis Kelce, who finished the day with 11 catches for 142 yards.

The Broncos had no standout performers on offense. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton led the team with 79 receiving yards but he also had what would have been a touchdown pass knocked out of his grasp by a Chiefs defender. Denver’s offense failed to score a single touchdown.

Up next for the Broncos is a home game against the Detriot Lions in Week 16 followed by another home game against the Oakland Raiders. Those contests should be much easier than the tough test Denver faced in KC.
