What’s Going To Happen

The RedHawks have bigger fish to fry.

They’ve already won the MAC East, and they played like it in a 20-17 win over an Akron team that might be the worst in the country.

Ball State is on a four-game losing streak and blow its shot to stay in the hunt for a bowl with a loss at Kent State. This is it for the Cardinals.

Miami might be on a five-game winning streak, and it’ll play hard, but Ball State will do a wee bit more on Senior Day. The RedHawks have to simply stay healthy.

The Ball State offense has a bit more pop, it’s not making big mistakes, and it’ll do just enough on the offensive front to keep the swarming RedHawk defensive line from taking over the game.

MU won’t be able to move the ball well enough in the second half with two turnovers becoming a problem late.

What’s Going To Happen

After its stunning comeback win over Buffalo, Kent State is now in the mix for a … bowl game? If it beat Ball State this week and Eastern Michigan next week, it’s at least eligible.

Ball State has lost three straight, but if it beats Kent State and takes down a Miami University team that’s already in the MAC title game – and probably won’t care about the regular season finale – then it’s eligible.

The Cardinals are getting the offense going, but the pass rush isn’t there for a defense that’s been hit-or-miss. On the plus side, they haven’t allowed a touchdown pass in the last four games, and just one so far in MAC play. However, the run defense has been hammered, giving up over 300 yards in two of its last three games.

Kent State’s run defense has been just a little bit worse, allowing 229 rushing yards or more in each of its last four games.

This might be an inspired Golden Flashes team with its FlashFast offense at home, but the Ball State ground attack that’s hit the 230-yard mark in each of its last four games is about to rumble for close to 300 in a stay-alive road win.

What’s Going To Happen

Ball State is looking to get closer to bowl eligibility, needing to win two of its last three games to get there. More than that, there’s still a shot to win the MAC West by winning out and getting a Western Michigan loss along the way.

Central Michigan could lose a Western Michigan loss, too. The Chippewas take the West by winning this week, beating Toledo, and getting a Bronco loss.

The Chippewas have won four of their last five games with an improved defense and and an offense that’s able to put up yards in chunks. It’s a balanced attack getting a huge year out of Jonathan Ward, who’s run for 100 yards or more in five of his last six games.

Ball State has hit a bit of a snag over the last few weeks after going on a nice three-game winning streak. The offense as stalled a bit, the defense is getting killed by good ground games – the Cardinals have allowed close to 700 yards over the last two weeks.

On the flip side, Ball State’s running game means everything. CMU has a strong run defense, but the Cardinals are funning over and throw just about everyone, hammering away for over 200 yards in four of the last five games, running for 196 against Eastern Michigan in the other one, and …

Ball State pulls this off at home in desperation mode.
