Celtics Lab 84: Boston’s 2022 trade deadline intelligence special edition with Michael Scotto

Get up to speed with the latest we are hearing about Boston’s plans for the 2022 NBA trade deadline in this special edition podcast.

With a little more than three weeks to go to the 2022 NBA trade deadline, fans of the Boston Celtics are scouring the internet for any signs of what their favorite team might be up to in an effort to improve its fortunes in this and future seasons at the same time NBA reporters try to pry some juicy secrets about what might be going down in the league’s front offices to the same end.

And for that reason, we brought on HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto to give us some details on what he has been hearing around the league with regard to the Celtics’ trade deadline efforts, as well his thoughts on what Boston might do (or not do) in terms of personnel changes before Feb. 10 rolls around in a few weeks.

While there are no blockbuster trades on the immediate horizon, it seems the Celtics organization is doing its best to hit a bunch of singles for a later home run.

Celtics Lab 83: What CAN Boston do to get better at the 2022 NBA trade deadline, anyway?

This pod, we’re joined by Dangercart as we highlight the impossible, improbable, and most likely outcomes for the Celtics at the deadline.

The Boston Celtics are already percolating in the rumor mill when it comes to the NBA’s 2021-22 trade season with the Feb. 10 deadline still more than a month away. Will the team make a major move? If so, what should they be looking for? And if not, what makes sense out of the range of directions the team could go in while pursuing deals of the non-blockbuster variety?

Of equal importance is what the team can NOT do, as well as other limitations and concerns which may be shaping the team’s thinking. And on the latest episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, your usual hosts Justin Quinn, Alex Goldberg, and Cameron Tabatabaie help highlight the realms of the possible at the trade deadline with the help of Celtics cap guru Ryan Bernardoni (A.K.A. Dangercart).

From transformative trades down to kitting singles, the foursome outline the contours of one of the most important trade seasons the Celtics have faced in some time.

Celtics Lab 82: Diagnosing the cure for what ails the Boston Celtics with Tim Bontemps

The Boston Celtics have plenty of things to work on in 2022, and there are no shortages of theories out there on the internet regarding what they ought to be doing about them. From issues closing out games and maintaining focus throughout them to shooting and passing compounded by sub-optimal roster constructions and the awkward rotations which arise from them.

Trading for new players is clearly one of the primary tools available to the Celtics, but there are things that could change from within with the right leadership and will to make that happen. What should be the focus of Boston’s front office ahead of the 2022 NBA trade deadline, and moving forward?

In our most recent episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, we brought in ESPN’s Tim Bontemps to talk about what the team we cover ought to be focused on changing — and more importantly how they ought to do it — to escape what has grown into an increasingly long stay on the dreaded treadmill of mediocrity.

Check out the clip embedded above to hear all Bontemps and your usual hosts Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg, and Justin Quinn have to say about the Celtics’ woes and what tools they have at their disposal.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe reflects on potential Jaylen Brown trades for the Boston Celtics

Trades, of course, require two (or more) teams to agree on the deal, and that isn’t always a breeze.

The Boston Celtics are dominating the NBA media sphere at the moment, and for all the wrong reasons. After dropping yet more winnable games and making seemingly little progress despite some fairly substantial changes to the team’s front office, coaching staff, and rotation depth, analysts are beginning to wonder if trading as high a profile player as All-Star forward Jaylen Brown might actually be on the table.

One such thought experiment was conducted by host of the semi- eponymous ESPN “Lowe Post” podcast Zach Lowe with his guest, the esteemed Jeff Van Gundy. The former head coach and broadcaster debated if there were any potential trade packages out there that would be a solid deal for both sides, and found it was not such an easy task even if one believes such a move to be a wise one.

We, for the record, do not — but let’s look at some of what Lowe and Van Gundy had to say about several proposed trade packages.

Celtics Lab 81: Finding some resolve for a struggling Boston squad with the new year

In light of the negativity surrounding their recent play, we decided to come up with what the team should resolve to do in 2022.

With January and a new year just around the corner, attention for most of us tends to turn to the things we have had trouble with in the previous year, and what we can do in the coming one to avoid the mistakes of the past that have kept us from being our best selves.

And the Boston Celtics certainly are no exception whether you are talking about them as a group of individual players who have a lot of things to improve on, or as a team that is far from the coherent, competitive squad they (and we) want them to become. In the case of the Celtics, however, we hope whatever New Year’s resolutions Boston comes up with last longer than ours usually do.

To that end, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast put together a list of resolutions for the coming year to try and take a positive spin on a spate of negative play.

WATCH: Should the Boston Celtics blow it up after their ongoing inconsistent play?

One thing is certain – SOMETHING has to change.

Despite a major overhaul of the Boston Celtics’ front office, coaching staff, and several notable changes to their roster since seasons past, the team continues to languish as a .500 squad. With roughly half the season in the rear-view mirror and more than a season prior of such play to consider, is it time for a hard reset, or do the Celtics just need more time and smaller changes?

With murmurs for a major shake-up growing louder with each avoidable loss, the decision could ultimately end up being made before fans even arrive at a consensus, but one thing is definitely clear at present: this iteration of the Celtics is running out of time if the wins don’t start to come.

The hosts of the CLNS Media podcast “The Garden Report” recently got into a debate on whether it is time for Boston to blow it up, tear it down a bit, make moves around the margins or stay the course.

Watch the clip embedded above to hear what they have to say about what the Celtics need to do next.

Celtics Lab 80: A Boston Celtics Festivus for the rest of us to get some gripes off of our chests

We’ve got a lot of problems with things, and now you’re going to hear about them.

The Boston Celtics are seemingly stuck at around .500 midway through yet another season that was supposed to be the campaign that saw them finally ascend to contender status while a large part of the roster (and for that matter, the NBA) is in the league’s health and safety protocol after testing positive for COVID-19 despite the majority of the team being vaccinated.

Between all this, the political zoo appearing on our televisions and cell phones on a daily basis, and a host of other disappointing to downright frightening things going on in the world at the moment, there is no limit to the things fans of the Celtics could — and should — be complaining about.

To that end, on this week’s episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, hosts Justin Quinn, Alex Goldberg, and Cameron Tabatabaie host a Festivus-inspired airing of the grievances for all things Boston Celtics, NBA, and beyond.

We try to keep it mostly light in a bit of a dark patch in the NBA schedule with all the COVID-related news currently gripping the league (and put most of the pandemic related talk further towards the end), and touch on the team’s recent play and signing of former No. 10 pick Joe Johnson to keep things balanced.

We even hear from you, dear listener, so be sure to check out the clip embedded above to hear all there is to gripe about in the Celtics media sphere on up with your three favorite NBA curmudgeons.

Celtics Lab 79: Sorting out the Boston Celtics’ future with Rohan Nadkarni

This episode, Sports Illustrated’s Rohan Nadkarni helps us try and divine what the Boston Celtics might be up to ahead of the 2022 NBA trade deadline.

With a brutally tough schedule, early-season injuries and new additions to the Boston Celtics’ roster and coaching staff making an evaluation of the team an uphill battle, the franchise will soon have to make tough decisions about the direction of the team in the short term that could have reverberations across a much longer-term context.

Is this team good enough now to make a deep postseason run? Does it need minor changes to inch towards contention? A major tear down? A complete overhaul? And do they have the tools they need for the path that makes the most sense?

On the latest episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, your usual hosts Justin Quinn, Cameron Tabatabaie, and Alex Goldberg are joined by renowned Celtics podcaster homerism foil Rohan Nadkarni of Sports Illustrated.

Nadkarni helps temper our optimism in key areas as we four try and divine what sort of moves Boston will make as the trade season gets underway.

While the business of sniffing out agendas in trade rumors may be an annoyance at this time of year, the potential for novelty that will drive future success is always a compelling topic.

So, buckle up and dive into this episode with us to get up to speed on who might be joining the Celtics soon — and who is likely leaving.

Celtics Lab 78: On activism, Freedom, and Enes with Dave Zirin

Enes Kanter Freedom has caught flak for his approach to activism in recent weeks, but can learn from his missteps.

The Boston Celtics center once known as Enes Kanter is back with a new identity as a US citizen and human rights activist with an updated name to reflect this new iteration, Enes Kanter Freedom. He has been using his platform as an NBA player to draw attention to a number of important causes.

But as many have learned parachuting into a struggle they are not part of personally and thus do not have the same stakes nor familiarity with the details, Freedom is finding his efforts are not always going as planned — nor received perhaps as hoped. Getting flak for tactics and his comments about LeBron James, Jeremey Lin, and Americans protesting their government, the Celtic center has felt blowback in recent days.

To that end, this episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast features your trio of usual hosts taking a closer look at Freedom’s activism with Sports Editor of The Nation and columnist criticizing the new US citizen’s recent activism, Dave Zirin. Alex Goldberg, Cameron Tabatabaie, and Justin Quinn talk with Zirin about what’s not gone right, and what could go better.

They also cover how de-centering oneself from the work at hand and forging ties with affected communities that allow them to use their own voices for their own struggles rather than usurping their place in the fight could breathe new life into Freedom’s goals.

WATCH: Historic pregame interview before Larry Bird, Magic Johnson’s 1st NBA showdown

At the start of a career-spanning rivalry, the two friends prepared to meet for the first time in the NBA.

In honoring the legacy of Boston Celtics legendary small forward Larry Bird, you can’t get too deep into his career without bringing up his longtime foil, rival and friend Magic Johnson. The pair came up together in the NCAA ranks as rivals all the way to the national title game of the annual tourney.

The two met many more times throughout the years in the course of countless regular-season contests and on the greatest of stages in the NBA Finals. But the very first time they met in the league was captured on film, and some of the most compelling moments of the interview that took place before it are to be found in the video we have embedded below.
