Patrick Queen hasn’t really lived up the hype that surrounded his signing. Can the linebacker bounce back in Week 8 against the NY Giants?

Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Patrick Queen is due for a breakout game in Week 8, right? While the word ‘elite’ may describe fellow linebackers Elandon Roberts and Payton Wilson, ‘inconsistent’ better summarizes Queen’s 2024 performance.

He’s currently on pace to record his highest number of missed tackles in any of his five NFL seasons, and he’s currently tied for the second-worst missed tackle percentage of his career this year.

With that being said, Queen’s play hasn’t been all bad—he was solid in Weeks 2, 3, and 5. However, one major setback for the fifth-year linebacker from LSU has been his pass coverage. What was once a strength during his final years in Baltimore, has taken a significant step back in 2024 with the Steelers, as he’s allowing an average passer rating of 103.2 when targeted by opposing QBs.

Although Tomlin refuses to admit it, Russell Wilson is primed for success in Week 8 against an average at best Giants’ defense.

While Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin continues his best ‘who’s the starter’ charade with the media, many fans, analysts, and players alike assume Russell Wilson will make his second-consecutive start in Week 8. The most unsurprising part of this entire act will be when Wilson, AKA Mr. Unlimited, cooks the Giants’ defense on Monday Night Football.

To any doubters of the former Super Bowl champ, why shouldn’t he? While the quarterback faced an injured Jets defense on Sunday Night Football, it was still an elite defense nonetheless! A defense in which the Wilson-led offense scored over 37 points—the most the Jets have given up all season.

After shaking off some rust in the first half of Week 7’s contest, Wilson’s production exploded. He is primed to repeat this same success against an even worse Giants’ defense in Week 8.

While fans and former Steelers’ players argue the unfair nature of Fields’ benching, if Pittsburgh wants to continue winning football games, one facet of the offense must remain: Let Russ Cook!

Mike Tomlin highlights Week 8 ‘problem’ for Steelers O-line

A significant problem for the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line this week comes in the form of 6-foot-4, 342-pound tackle Dexter Lawrence.

A significant problem for the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line this week comes in the form of 6-foot-4, 342-pound tackle Dexter Lawrence. Nicknamed “Sexy Dexy,” Lawrence is dominating at a historic level in 2024.

Mike Tomlin gushed over Lawrence’s game-changing ability in Tuesday’s press conference.

“Dexter Lawrence is a problem. He is,” Tomlin warned. “He’s a problem in the running game. He’s a problem in the passing game. I think he leads the NFL in sacks, but he’s just a dominant, dominant player.”

Despite garnering the most double teams (63.3%) in the league, Lawrence leads the league in sacks with nine.

Limiting Lawrence will be an eye-opening experience for Steelers center Ryan McCollum, who got the start in place of injured rookie Zach Frazier on Sunday Night Football.

“For guys like Ryan McCollum, who are getting an opportunity to ascend and play, it is going to be a significant challenge, but we better do more than wish Ryan McCollum luck,” Tomlin continued.

“We better give him some schematic help and be highly sensitive to this man’s capabilities and not only his capabilities but just simply what he’s putting on tape week in and week out as we sit here right now.”

It’ll take a village — Pittsburgh’s line unit as a whole — to combat Lawrence’s dominance and affection for making Russell Wilson‘s life against the Giants miserable.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin creating confusion about starting quarterback position

Could Mike Tomlin really bench Russell Wilson against the Giants?

We aren’t sure if Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was being serious or not but he is really trying to confuse everyone about the starting quarterback position. Last week Tomlin benched Justin Fields in favor of Russell Wilson before the team blew out the New York Jets on Sunday night.

Now the Steelers are preparing to square off with the New York Giants on Monday Night Football and Tomlin said in his Tuesday presser that he hasn’t committed to a starting quarterback for this week.

“He’s scheduled to take first-team reps tomorrow, and we’ll see where that leads us,” Tomlin said.

Seriously? Could there even be an argument about who the starting quarterback is? This feels like Tomlin trying really hard to make the Giants prepare for Fields to be the starting quarterback even though there’s no chance it actually happens.

Last week we expected to see Fields against the Jets in some packages but it didn’t happen. It sounds like he is hoping to create the same type of doubt this week.
