Steelers Week 3 injury report: Rookie receiver logs full practice

Here’s a look at the Pittsburgh Steelers injury report following Thursday’s practice.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could finally have rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson in the lineup when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

On Thursday, Wilson logged his second full practice of the season, hoping to ease his way into action this weekend. The first real test will be tomorrow’s practice. Wilson logged his first full practice last Thursday, reverted to limited on Friday, and ruled out versus the Broncos.

Gimme him: One player the Steelers would steal from the Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins would make an excellent addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally get their home opener when they welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to Acrisure Stadium on Sunday.

Here at Steelers Wire, we’re conducting a fun exercise where we hypothetically steal one player from the Chargers to help bolster this current roster.

Look at the Chargers offensive depth chart and one name immediately jumps out at you: J.K. Dobbins. He’s a familiar Baltimore Ravens foe signed by L.A. in free agency this spring.

The former second-round pick never could stay healthy, but when he was, he was a thorn in the side of Pittsburgh’s defense. In three matchups, Dobbins posted 326 yards rushing.

Dobbins currently leads the league in rushing with 266 yards on 27 attempts for a whopping 9.9 yards per attempt. Plugging him into the Steelers’ offense would certainly make it more competitive.

In reality, however, Dobbins poses a threat to Pittsburgh’s fourth-ranked run defense, a unit that’s allowed just 76.5 yards per game and zero touchdowns.

Announcers set for Steelers vs. Chargers Week 3 game

Announcers are set for Steelers-Chargers Week 3 contest in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0) welcome the Los Angeles Chargers (2-0) to Acrisure Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Steelers’ Week 3 game will air on CBS at 1 p.m. ET. The television commentators are Jim Nantz (play-by-play), Tony Romo (analyst) and Tracy Wolfson (sideline reporter).

The Steelers are coming off a 13-6 victory over the Denver Broncos. Justin Fields to tight end Darnell Washington produced their first and only touchdown of the 2024 season so far.

Pittsburgh and L.A. mirror each other in that both boast stellar defenses (No. 2 and 1, respectively) and run-heavy offenses. They are two of five undefeated teams in the AFC, but only one can be 3-0 at the end.

Steelers Week 3 injury report: QB Russell Wilson remains limited

Here’s a look at the Pittsburgh Steelers injury report, including Russell Wilson, following Wednesday’s practice.

Since July, Russell Wilson has been the star of his own version of Groundhog Day: Every workday is the same, limited in practice with a calf injury. And it doesn’t look like that’ll change any time soon.

Many veterans did not practice or were limited on a rest day besides tight end MyCole Pruitt, who’s dealing with a knee injury.

Steelers vs. Chargers: Pick the winner of Week 3 contest

The Pittsburgh Steelers welcome the L.A. Chargers to Acrisure for their home opener on Sunday.

After two games, the Pittsburgh Steelers are atop the AFC North, with the Cleveland Browns on their heels. The Steelers have a chance to put a little separation between them in their home opener against the 2-0 L.A. Chargers this week.

These two teams last met in 2021: Ben Roethlisberger‘s final season and Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert’s first. The game ended in a shoot-out, with Los Angeles defeating Pittsburgh 41-37.

The result won’t be anything like that this time around, as the Steelers have (so far) been incapable of producing those kinds of points. As long as the defense keeps doing what it has been and Justin Fields can play mistake-free ball, it could be another close one.

Steelers vs Chargers promises to be defensive showdown

The two best defenses in the NFL square off on Sunday.

Through two weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers have only allowed 16 points. Last week the Steelers held the Denver Broncos to just six points. Only one team has allowed fewer points through two games. That would be this week’s opponent, the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Steelers and Chargers square off this week in a battle of the nine remaining undefeated teams and the two best scoring defenses in the league. For the season, Los Angeles has only allowed 13 points.

While being No. 2 in points allowed, the Steelers are No. 5 in yards allowed through two games. The Chargers are tops in points allowed under new head coach Jim Harbaugh and are No. 2 in yards allowed as well.

Both of these teams want to pound the football on the ground and play tough defense. If you are a fan of old-school, smash-mouth football, this could be the game to watch this weekend.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin isn’t taking the bait about the starting QB position

Mike Tomlin says the team is preparing as if Justin Fields will start versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

On Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and was immediately asked about the starting quarterback position. But it was clear that Tomlin was not in the mood to feed the media with anything related to what might or might not happen as the week progresses.

Tomlin said as of now, the team is preparing to have Justin Fields as the team’s starting quarterback this week at home against the Denver Broncos. He noted that Russell Wilson is still limited but was not going to dig into any specifics of the team’s plan based on Wilson’s progression. In fact he sounded a little annoyed by the insinuation that Tomlin was somehow obligated to offer up some sort of hypothetical strategy.

“Hypotheticals is a waste of our time,” Tomlin said, just further reinforcing the point that he is not planning for anything further than tomorrow’s practice and is willing to make whatever changes are necessary.
