Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth headed to the locker room with injury

Steelers TE Freiermuth suffered what appeared to be a leg injury on Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers starting tight end Pat Freiermuth suffered what appeared to be a leg injury midway through the third quarter against the Houston Texans. Freiermuth was able to leave the field under his own power but headed straight to the locker room.

Rookie Darnell Washington and second-year tight end Connor Heyward will replace Freiermuth in the lineup. Last season, Freiermuth was among the top tight ends in the NFL but like the rest of the Steelers offense this season, Freiermuth has been lackluster so far this year.

Steelers OC Matt Canada admits offense isn’t built to come back

The Steelers offense has been dominated in the first half and the team trails 16-0 at halftime.

Maybe Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada shouldn’t say the quiet parts out loud. Just before halftime in the Steelers game against the Houston Texans, the television broadcast team offered up a little sound byte that can only make fans feel worse about Canada and this offense.

Canada admitted to the announcers in a conversation ahead of the game that the Steelers offense isn’t really back from a deficit. I guess that means trailing the Texans 16-0 at halftime qualifies as a deficit so what should we expect from Pittsburgh in the second half?

The Texans outgained the Steelers 271-53 in the first half and the Steelers offense has 35 passing yards. The offense got four first downs and was 2-for-6 on third down. Yep, none of that sounds like an offense built to come back from being down big.

Social media roasts Matt Canada as Steelers offense sputters

Matt Canada is up to his old tricks and the fans aren’t having it.

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada got a reprieve last week after the Steelers offense perked up against the Las Vegas Raiders. But this week, the Pittsburgh offense is sputtering against the Houston Texans and social media was waiting for the chance to roast him again.

Steelers OT Broderick Jones in for injured Dan Moore Jr.

Dan Moore is questionable to return.

Through just under a quarter and a half, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense has been miserable against the Houston Texans. Adding to that, starting left tackle Dan Moore Jr. is questionable to return after suffering a knee injury. This means the Steelers will get an extended look at rookie offensive tackle Broderick Jones.

Jones was the Steelers first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft out of Georgia. It was expected Jones would be the opening-week starter but Moore held him off throughout training camp and preseason.

The problem is Jones isn’t going to fix all the problems the Steelers offensive line has. Pittsburgh is also without starting right guard James Daniels this week and was replaced in the starting lineup by Nate Herbig.

Steelers vs Texans: Who wins?

Cast your vote and predict your winner in this week’s Steelers game.

It’s prediction time, folks. Riding a two-game win streak, the Pittsburgh Steelers are headed to Houston to square off against the Texans. After an opening weekend blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh has found a way to sneak past the Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders.

The Steelers currently sit as three-point favorites and we think this is a game they can and must win. The Steelers pass rush is ridiculous with Alex Highsmith and T.J. Watt on the edges. The Texans are looking at starting either a third-string offensive tackle or a practice squad player at left tackle and this doesn’t bode well for Texans quarterback CJ Stroud.

Meanwhile, the Steelers offense is still struggling but those big plays are going to be enough to outpace the Texans offense. We look for wide receiver George Pickens to have a big performance.

Steelers vs Texans: 4 players we want to see more of this week

The Steelers tight ends must be more involved in the offense this week.

It’s hard to believe that the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently 2-1 and on top of the AFC North after the way the team played in Week One. Fast forward to now and the Steelers are traveling to Houston to take on the Texans with a chance to re-establish themselves as one of the top teams in the AFC.

This team still has problems and there are still spots on the roster where things can be better. Here are four(ish) players we want to see more of against the Texns.

Steelers vs Texans: Pittsburgh’s dominance over rookie QBs put to the test this week

The Steelers are 23-4 against rookie quarterabcks under Mike Tomlin.

This week the Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Houston Texans and rookie quarterback CJ Stroud. Stroud is currently fifth in the NFL in passing yards and is averaging 300 yards passing per game. Pretty remarkable for a rookie but Stroud has shown great poise and command of the Texans offense as well as a great connection with fellow rookie Tank Dell as the team’s top receiver.Stroud will face his toughest test of the season on Sunday.

The Steelers boast the best duo of pass rushers in the NFL with T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith but Stroud also has to deal with some ominous history.

As head coach of the Steelers, Mike Tomlin is 23-4 going against rookie quarterbacks. But honestly, after watching Stroud play this season, that might not mean as much. Stroud was the most maligned of the big three quarterbacks but quickly quieted those critics. He will have his work cut out for himself with injuries at offensive tackle against that ferocious Pittsburgh pass rush.
