Steelers vs Bengals: Who wins?

Cast your vote and predict this week’s winner.

It’s Week 16 of the NFL regular season and somehow the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to limp along with the slightest level of playoff relevance. The last time the Steelers won a game it was against the Cincinnati Bengals but it was a month ago. Now Pittsburgh hopes to snap a three-game losing streak when the Bengals come to Acrisure Stadium on Saturday.

Unfortunately, since that game in November, these are two teams headed in different directions. Cincinnati has won its last three and the Steelers have lost their last three. The Bengals have moved ahead of the Steelers in the AFC North and despite having a backup quarterback have found a way to win game.

At this point, we see no reason to have any confidence in the Steelers to turn things around. Head coach Mike Tomlin looks like he lost his team and the whole situation is just compounded by a rash of injuries. Where will the points come from with Mason Rudolph at quarterback and how will a hobbled Steelers secondary slow down the Bengals?

Cast your vote and tell us who wins this week. Is the Steelers season ending on Saturday or do they live to fight another day?

Steelers vs Bengals: 4 storylines to watch this week

What do you expect to happen if the Steelers can’t win this weekend?

This Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals might be the most significant game of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s career. A loss this week would be four in a row, put the team below .500 with just two games to play and likely shut them out of the playoffs. Here are the big storylines for this week’s game.

NFL experts giving the Steelers no shot at home vs the Bengals

NFL experts are leaning in on the Bengals beating the Steelers this week.

For most Pittsburgh Steelers fans, all hope is lost. The Steelers have lost three in a row in embarrassing fashion and neither the players nor coaches seem to have any answers on how to turn things around. So this week as the team welcomes the Cincinnati Bengals to town, it’s hard to get too excited about the potential of getting back on the winning track.

The Steelers last win was against these same Bengals back in Week 12 but these two teams have gone in opposite directions since. This is why most experts don’t care what happened in late November and they are banking on the Bengals pulling off the road win.

According to NFL Pick Watch, 80 percent of the NFL pundits around the internet are picking the Bengals. Cincinnati is currently 2.5-point road favorites and given how badly the Steelers have played the last three weeks, this is being generous.

Steelers final injury report: 3 players ruled out vs. Bengals

The Steelers will be without two starters in the critical Week 16 showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Safety Trenton Thompson has been added to previously ruled out Kenny Pickett and Minkah Fitzpatrick for Saturday’s do-or-die brawl with the Cincinnati Bengals. Another safety, Elijah Riley, remains on injured reserve but has a questionable designation with an ankle injury.

Here’s the rundown from Thursday’s final injury report:

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett ruled out, Mason Rudolph to start vs. Bengals

Kenny Pickett has been ruled out for Saturday’s Bengals matchup, with Mason Rudolph starting.

It was never likely that Kenny Pickett would take the field on Saturday, less than three weeks removed from high ankle surgery, but Mike Tomlin officially ruled Pickett out today, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Pickett practiced on Tuesday for the first time since surgery and was bumped up to second team in Wednesday’s practice ahead of Mitch Trubisky and Trace McSorley, but they must’ve seen something they didn’t like today.

Tomlin named Mason Rudolph the starter on Monday, but said Pickett playing was “not out of the question.”

Pickett exited Pittsburgh’s Week 13 24-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals and underwent surgery the following day. It was initially reported that he’d miss four games, which could bring him back for the team’s season finale in Baltimore versus the Ravens.

With the Steelers all but eliminated from playoff contention, there’s no point in Pickett playing at all again this season.

Steelers DT Cam Heyward clears concussion protocol ahead of Bengals matchup

The Steelers announced this morning that Cam Heyward has cleared concussion protocol.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers fight the Cincinnati Bengals for their playoff lives on Saturday, defensive tackle Cam Heyward will be in the lineup. Steelers Senior Director of Communications Burt Lauten announced this morning that he’s cleared concussion protocol.

Heyward, who totaled five tackles, including a tackle for loss, suffered a concussion in Pittsburgh’s Week 15 loss to the Colts, though it’s not clear when as he did not leave the game. He was not reported with an injury during the game. Mike Tomlin didn’t say anything about the head injury until his press conference on Monday, so he likely didn’t experience symptoms until later. He was limited in practice on Tuesday but was a full participant yesterday.

Since returning from injured reserve with a groin injury in Week 9, Heyward’s been relatively quiet. He’s recorded two sacks, 30 tackles (six for loss) and three quarterback hits.
