The Southeastern Conference named Auburn junior Carson Myers SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
The junior left-hander out of Bowling Green, KY tossed 6 scoreless frames in his Auburn debut on Sunday against Eastern Kentucky. He struck out a career-high 8 batters over 6, two-hit innings.
Perhaps most impressively, the scoreless start was the first of Myers’s Auburn career after he spent his first two years of eligibility at UAB. His 6 innings pitched were the most of any Tiger on opening weekend since first-overall MLB draft pick Casey Mize cruised through 6 innings on opening day 2018.
While Myers was filthy in his first Auburn start, the star of the weekend was an Auburn lineup that scored 32 runs in 25 innings of baseball. The lefty gave credit to that potent attack after his scoreless start.
“These guys are laying it on the line for me & it makes me want to return the favor to them.”
He certainly did return the favor, but unfortunately won’t be taking the mound against his former team when the No. 15 Tigers host UAB on Tuesday at Plainsman Park.
Myers tentatively lines up to face Virginia in the Jax College Baseball Classic on Sunday, but could feasibly start any game in that three-game tournament.
