Cardinals reinstate S Jalen Thompson from IR

He has not played since the second play of the season.

The Arizona Cardinals get a starting defender back this week. After he was designated to return from injured reserve three weeks ago, safety Jalen Thompson was officially reinstated to the 53-man roster by the team on Wednesday.

Thompson only has played two defensive snaps all season. On the second play of the season in Week 1, he injured his ankle and did not return. He landed on injured reserve and has not played since then.

He had to be activated, as a player, once designated to return, has three weeks to be activated or he must miss the rest of the season.

It is uncertain if the Cardinals will immediately put him back in the starting lineup and have him play a full load. Deionte Thompson has worked his way into the starting lineup and has been solid. If they don’t want to give Jalen too much work early, we might see a rotation between both Thompsons.

When they did that last season as rookies, Deionte played in base packages and Jalen played in sub packages.
