Cardinals have multiple rookies inactive in Week 1

The Cardinals had five inactive rookies for the season opener against the Commanders.

The Arizona Cardinals released their Week 1 unactive list and it comes with no real surprises. Offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum is the most notable player on the list but he was ruled out with a hand injury. The rest are rookies.

These players did not dress for the opener against the Washington Commanders:

  • CB Starling Thomas
  • LB Owen Pappoe
  • DL Dante Stills
  • OL Carter O’Donnell
  • OL Kelvin Beachum
  • OL Ilm Manning
  • TE Elijah Higgins

Pappoe and Stills were drafted by the Cardinals. Higgins, Thomas and Manning are rookies the Cardinals acquired on waiver claims. O’Donnell is not a rookie but has not yet played in the NFL. He was also acquired on a waiver claim.

With these inactives, the three offensive linemen who will dress to back up the starters are center Trystan Colon, guard Keith Ismael and tackle Jackson Barton. Barton was elevated to the active roster on Saturday from the practice squad.
